If a poor program like Weber State can get Ron Mcbride, Cal Poly should have no difficulty in finding a good head coach.

I think we will get a good coach, but Weber States has far better facilities than Cal Poly.Wildcat Ryan wrote:If a poor program like Weber State can get Ron Mcbride, Cal Poly should have no difficulty in finding a good head coach.

I would think just the socal angle ALONE should put you above Weber on the recruit's radar....SloStang wrote:I think we will get a good coach, but Weber States has far better facilities than Cal Poly.Wildcat Ryan wrote:If a poor program like Weber State can get Ron Mcbride, Cal Poly should have no difficulty in finding a good head coach.

CP's not really an easy ride to get to...but once you're there, so long as you stay out of the local poli/social scene...the quality of life is good. Spent a lot of time down there...know a lot of good people...but there's some "pimples" in the region...gotta know how to navigate those problem spots before choosing where to live. And the SLO "old-timers" are just a wee bit opinionated and hard headed.AZGrizFan wrote:I would think just the socal angle ALONE should put you above Weber on the recruit's radar....SloStang wrote: I think we will get a good coach, but Weber States has far better facilities than Cal Poly.

So.....it's either THAT, along with gorgeous women, beautiful beaches, wonderful weather, or being surrounded by mormons.travelinman67 wrote:CP's not really an easy ride to get to...but once you're there, so long as you stay out of the local poli/social scene...the quality of life is good. Wow. That's a tough choice.

Wow. That's a tough choice.
Women: Tie. Lotta hotties in CP, but majority are CA born/raised, so the attitude drops the score. One of the hottest chicks I saw this last year was at a motel in Utah. Most beautiful eyes, smile and bod I had seen in a long, long time. Couldn't take my eyes off her...she noticed. Lot to be said for healthy "corn fed" Utah women.
Natural Beauty: SLO hands down. Smith's selection of the "fertile" Salt Lake valley is strike one, two, and a few thousand foul tips against LDS credibility. Heading up into Park, Logan or down to the Green River Valley, UT is breathtaking, but the lake region just doesn't cut it.
Weather: Overall, SLO, but don't delude yourself into thinking it's beaches and babes a-la Santa Monica. The water temp. is significantly colder despite being less than a couple hundred miles north, and it's generally foggier than London in the morning, even in the summer. Winters are pure fog, with little sunlight, and unless you want to partake a 4hr drive to Mammoth, skying won't be winter sport. Even factoring all that, the summers and storms in Ogden detract just enough to give SLO the nod.
Culture: Ogden, no question. CA, despite being an ethnic melting pot, has relatively little culture. If you want to know the best place to buy a flat screen TV, or where the nearest GAP or Mall is, ask a Californian. If you love music or the arts, get on 15/84 and head to Utah. There's a lot to be said for the "traditional" methods of teaching the three R's and requiring every child to study a classical arts discipline while growing up. Extremely sad, but the "extracurriculars" or "elective" designation applied to the arts by the CA Dept. of Educ. requires District Administrators to cut funding for those programs, BEFORE considering elimination of state mandated ESL courses. The result, most kids leaving K-12 have minimal or no arts education. The Mormons still understand the importance of mandating arts as a component of primary educ. curricula.
Best of: If you're single, SLO. If you're raising a family already, Ogden.

BTW, don't be surprised to find out that CP is going out of their way to find "qualified" female candidates. Probably the most likely D1 program to attempt that "achievement".

I'm really surprised. I'd heard through the grapevine that Cow Poly was going to hire a female....

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.
