Well, you hardly have to use future earnings to judge Devlin. Just using the stats from this year he has a much higher QB rating than any of the three finalists. But why look at stats like that. What may happen in the NFL and what happens on the college gridiron have absolutely nothing in common. The rules are different, the teams are different, the game is different, the demands on the players are different. Recognition for college awards is based on what happens on the college football field. Period. Not what MAY happen in the future.

Edwards is a lead pipe lock College Football Hall of Fame inductee and was the best FCS player during his tenure at App. I don't see how anybody could argue otherwise. He is truly a once in a generation player for a program.

Foster set the all time rushing record for a season for a quarterback in 2007, and all one needs to know about Foster is to look at GSU's records in 2005 (8-4 playoff team with Foster at QB rushing for over 1500 yards), 2006 (3-8 with Foster at WR), and 2007 (7-4 with Foster winning the Payton rushing for over 1800 yards in 11 games0.

As for Flacco vs. Foster, UD and GSU had one common opponent in 2007- App State. Perhaps the App State people can weigh in on who they feared the most and who they thought was the better college player against their championship team in 2007.

Flacco had a good career at UD and a great 2007 season, probably (IMO he should have) should have been on the final watch list for the Payton, and has done great things in the NFL, but he simply wasn't the college player AE was in 2006-2009 or Foster in 2007 was, and that's all that matters here.

Why do people keep saying that the only positive thing Flacco had going for him was his NFL future? Look at the stats again and tell me why Flacco, in '07, shouldn't have been on the final Payton ballot as one of the best 15 or so players in FCS that year. Heck, Liam Coen was still on the final ballot over Flacco and no one in the conference where those two played would've ever said that Coen was a better QB than Flacco. After seeing Flacco and Sanders on the field together, again, no one in their right mind would actually say that Sanders was a better QB than Flacco. But then again, Sanders had toiled for 4 years, all of which were in the FCS, so his was a career nod. We all know that transfers are looked down upon when these awards come out so it was no surprise to see Flacco even kept off the final voting list. No one is saying that Flacco, or even Devlin now, should've won the Payton Award. Foster clearly deserved the award. But to not recognize that Flacco was supremely snubbed is just turning a blind eye. yup cause the voting for 1st 2nd and 3rd All American was identical to the Payton balloting... so it would be foolish to release the exact order now for All American
