Georgia Southern . . . IS BACK
Beware GSU in 2011...only 3 seniors on both two-deeps, and lots of injured players returning next year.

How much does App State lose? Does their Reign of Terror over the SoCon end next year?

Re: Georgia Southern . . . IS BACK
We lose a fair amount, including several receivers (Coco, Cline, Elder), Devon Moore (RB), Jabari Fletcher (DE), DJ Smith (LB), Mark Legree (Safety), and Bobby Bozzo (DT). Smith and Legree are big losses, as is Fletcher to a point. If our coaching doesn't get more creative, it won't matter, though. GSU will be a force regardless.PenthouseClosedEnd wrote:How much does App State lose? Does their Reign of Terror over the SoCon end next year?

Re: Georgia Southern . . . IS BACK
We lose a lot. And I feel like (especially on offense) we've simply been relying on superior talent to beat teams the last couple of years. We had such an insanely talented group of receivers this year that there was no way they could all be covered. We lose Cline, Elder, Hillary, and Frazier from the WR corps. Brian Quick will be back, but that's only 1 receiver back with much experience. It will be a lot easier for teams to shut him down. The defense will have a lot of new faces...PenthouseClosedEnd wrote:How much does App State lose? Does their Reign of Terror over the SoCon end next year?
Couple all that with the fact that the SoCon is going to be very, very deep next year and... 2011 will be the first year I do not pick App to win the SoCon.

Yup, next year will be tough, and I too see the SoCon streak ending.Skjellyfetti wrote:We lose a lot. You forgot to add very vanilla playcalling and lack of discipline to our list of problems. Losing AE and the guys mentioned above will not hurt as much as the loss of Coaches Satterfield and Elliot...

Re: Georgia Southern . . . IS BACK
Congrats on a great season, GSU. Take away the turnovers and today was a very close contest. You will be a force again next season and beyond. I'm glad we got you while you're still young.
Nice turnout by GSU too. You guys filled 2/3 of section I, which is more than many local teams (won't name names
) bring. They were vocal and proud. You even trotted your G, S, and U flags across our endzone (BOOOOOO!). I liked the real Eagle too, but he looked like his beak was chattering a little. Put a sweater on him next time you come up.

Re: Georgia Southern . . . IS BACK
I hate to sound like an optimistic poster who just hopes for the downfall of App State every year (as there are plenty out there), but when you look at the numbers they are very vulnerable next year. They lose a lot of talent, the only players with NC rings will have been red-shirted in the last few years. With the rise of GSU and Chatty and Wofford being as good as they are I don't think App will go through conference play next year without at least one loss. They have owned Wofford in the last few years but they don't play Wofford as well at Gibbs than they do at Kidd Brewer.PenthouseClosedEnd wrote:How much does App State lose? I think next year the Socon will have 3 in the playoffs for sure with a possibility of a fourth team; if Lembo stays at Elon they could have 5 teams competing for a spot. Nobody knows how good Furman will be next year

Re: Georgia Southern . . . IS BACK
I hope GSU is back. Their program is among the FCS elite and their team should reflect that.
Re: Georgia Southern . . . IS BACK
Congrats to GSU on a great turn around season and playing hard today. Your coach looked pissed at something after the game barely shaking Keeler's hand and no eye contact. Anyone know why he may have been upset?

Met a lot of great GSU fans today. A bunch of very knowledgeable fans. It will be nice to see the Eagles as a top team for AT LEAST the next few years.
Re: Georgia Southern . . . IS BACK
I noticed that as I was skimming my DVR copy. Not sure why the GSU coach may have been pissed. Perhaps he's just not much of a hand shaker?HENJOHN wrote:Congrats to GSU on a great turn around season and playing hard today. Welcome back GSU. Fans. Traveling. A program that cares about this level of football. A cornerstone of the FCS IMO. We were the better team today, but on a different day it very well might not have gone as well. Best wishes in the off season and on bringing your program back to where it belongs. And credit to the SoCon for being one of the conferences at this level very worthy of the respect of its peers. Kudos to GSU and the entire SoCon. Seriously.

Great season, Eagles! Hope to tailgate with the Red Flag Gang again next year.
Now, UD is off to Frisco to put Black Falkin in his place.

Re: Georgia Southern . . . IS BACK
With lots of key players graduating at App I would expect that GaSo would likely be the favorite in 2011 in the SoCon. I think both Wofford and App will be contenders and if UTC keeps inproving they will be in the mix. Furman also has a lot coming back and a new coach. Just glad that the Eagles and Mocs have to come to The Rock next year.

Had it still been snowing in Newark yesterday, all we'd have been able to see was dark blue helmets running around.Bronco wrote:They are back

In all seriousness it's great to have the real GSU back. It wasn't the same without you.
Now SoCon, please start beating the hell out of each other.

Re: Georgia Southern . . . IS BACK
Considering GSU has done all they could to make their schedule as weak as possible next season I can agree: They will appear to be back.
They run a very good triple O. NDSU can defense that. In the archives of the BISON LORE is found the greatest body of knowledge on the triple O known to college football today. If I had been GSU I would have bought out the NDSU date too. No need to be discovered as counterfeit second game of the season. Good preservation move!!
With that said GSU has a great team. Just don't expect them to get past The BISON if they are running an option attack. I think they are 0-fer against The Herd, Their record is the same as Grambling 0-1 in favor of The NDSU BISON.

I don't know for sure, but as great of a coach Keeler is he comes off to me as an abrasive d-bag.93henfan wrote:I noticed that as I was skimming my DVR copy. Well, since I sit four rows up from his "conversations" with many a referee, let me go ahead and confirm for you that there is no "coming off" about it. He's an abrasive d-bag. But really, aren't a whole lot of football head coaches?GSUhooligan wrote:I don't know for sure, but as great of a coach Keeler is he comes off to me as an abrasive d-bag.93henfan wrote:

Clearly there was some reason for the slight, or else it's a bad trait of your coach there at GSU. I'm not going to make any assumptions either way, but I would like to hear an explanation of why it went down the way it went. If I don't ever get it, I won't lose any sleep. It's more curiosity than anything.

Take your $60,000 buyout and cry yourself to sleep.
2011 would have been the 3rd or 4th season in a row of only having 5 regular season home games. That had to change, sorry.
BTW, the Bison are 1-0 against GSU, and the lone win wasn't against an option team, congrats.
If you're fortunate enough to make the playoffs next season, maybe we'll find out. We'd love to host you guys again in Paulson.

Re: Georgia Southern . . . IS BACK
Who knew that GSU's ground game meant that they frequently put footballs ON the ground?!
But seriously, the Eagles should contend for the SoCon and NC championships next year. There's a terrific young foundation there. They just seemed to have suffered from nerves last Sat., which comes with a young, inexperienced team.
Really impressed with GSU's defensive speed. Definitely one of the very best secondaries we've faced this year.
