I'm sure the NCAA is all worked up about that. You haven't watched many games during the playoffs over the years apparently because that will seem like a decent crowd compared to a lot of them.SuperHornet wrote:Villanova @ Eastern Washington

Dunno if you saw my other post but Mike Corey said on the postgame that he talked to the ESPN production folks and they said that an Appy win and they'd be on Friday and a Nova win and we would be again.89Hen wrote:It better be the Saturday game.GannonFan wrote:I'll be there next weekend. They would promote this game as the Team with the great basketball program vs the team with the red turf

The nightmare would have been Villanova - Wofford for the championship game.

Re: We're about to get the NCAA's/ESPN's worst playoff night
In terms of who would bring the most fans to Frisco among the final 8 teams, it would probably go (avg through last week):
1. ASU (25,715)
2. GSU (17,727)
3. UD (19,805)
---NDSU (15,944)
followed by in no particular order:
-Nova (8573)
-Wofford (8482)
-UNH (7734)
-EWU (6854)
Now your top attendance team is out. If UD beats GSU next weekend, your top 2 for how many they would bring to Frisco would be out.
What will UD bring to Frisco? 3-4K? (I remember reading somewhere some UD posters even saying 3k). Don't have a big student attendance. They must have the oldest fanbase in the CAA.
What will Nova bring? Certainly less than 1k, with half of them being players family & friends.
How many tickets will locals buy? 4-5k? So we're looking at an NC game with maybe 8-10k fans? In a 21k stadium. Frisco and the NCAA must be pissed!
Heck, if its UD-Nova, 2 teams that are about 40 miles apart, and they're going to have it in a major league soccer soccer stadium, may as well move it to PPL park. Get a head start on Nova's Big East games there.

Re: We're about to get the NCAA's/ESPN's worst playoff night
So were going to see a nationally televised Nova @ EWU with a 1/2 full stadium (I read Roos capacity is just under 12k and they had 4060 listed attendance today, and they have avg less than 7k this yr) played on a red carpet, followed by a NC game in Frisco less than 1/2 full.
Not going to look good.

That's not the problem, Ursus. At least, not completely. It's almost as bad as a PSU-EWU matchup in terms of perceived ratings. They absolutely abhor having western teams in at all, and there's the danger of Nova being tired after the trip (though that probably won't be as bad as a western team getting shipped east). The dream game for them would be Delaware vs Villanova (or any east coast team not named Liberty).Ursus A. Horribilis wrote:I'm sure the NCAA is all worked up about that. Who gives a shit. It's about the game that's on the field and not the number of fans in the stands.
They show the DII championship on ESPN and they show lots of other sporting events that don't have good attendence.
It's FCS for shit sake... there are maybe only 10 teams with "decent" attendence by your definitions and those 10 have shitty attendence by ESPN/FBS standards.
If it is so important maybe we should exclude the other 100+ teams that can't average more than 15,000 from partcipating in the playoffs.

Gotcha. I misunderstood what you were saying. I'm not sure this game will be more poorly viewed than most other games in this position though.SuperHornet wrote:That's not the problem, Ursus. The only playoff game that really ever got their attention was the App/MT semi final last year. Most of those games get pretty poor ratings so I don't know if even that is a big concern to them.
Re: We're about to get the NCAA's/ESPN's worst playoff night
There's some perspective. We're bitching about teams drawing less than 20K for a playoff game. Could you imagine 20K turning out for a game at Penn State, Michigan, Alabama, etc. The AD would immediately commit suicide if his head didn't spontaneously explode first.BearIt wrote:Who gives a shit. Re: We're about to get the NCAA's/ESPN's worst playoff night
I have a good chuckle about the attendance and how games look on TV and what the game is gonna be like in Frisco. A full stadium would be fantastic but it's not like this level of football is all about that. I can't imagine that the NCAA/ESPN takes it real hard when there are 10,000 vs. 15-20K in the stands. That's silly talk.93henfan wrote:There's some perspective. We're bitching about teams drawing less than 20K for a playoff game. Even if a stadium were packed to the rafters we are small potato's in the advertising dollar world.
That wouldn't change with 5,000 more fans in the stands.

You guys gonna bitch for the next 3 years? I wanna know cause if you are I'm going to petiton Chris to make a separate area for all of you to go to every day, to do so, to your hearts content. It's getting really old folks. I mean, seriously,10 months of going around in circles has made this topic more than annoying.
Get the fuck over it. It's in Frisco for 3 years and nothing you say is going to change it. Not a hard concept to grasp, if you ask me. Jeezus
Chris, new forum.......

Attendence at the NC in Chatty sucks balls compared to the days of the Marshall Invitational. Chatty has never even come close.
Maybe should change the rules and allow the participating team with the best attendence host the NC. I'm sure the CAA fans would have loved those trips to Montana in December and I bet Montana would have a couple more trophys.
Like I said, it's about the game on the field not the people in the stands.

Is that the same ESPN whining that they do when they have to broadcast the Wednesday night MAC games with 5000 people in the stands....cant be any worse
