And people complained about Chatty.

I liked Chatty and wanted it to stay there. Since it didn't, we'll have to make do as best we can.

Reserved mine after the UMass win and have until 1/7 @ 6pm to cancel. Rooms a plenty and cheap too.

Yes at the hotel that is right on the same grounds as the stadium. and supposedly flight packages as well on Southwest. Haven't seen anything on this since the bids were put in though.

Agreed. I will be there if the Hens make it. What cracks me up is all the fans that said they'd come to Frisco no matter who was there... I'll wait here Jan 8th to collect the list. :coffee:

10k in attendance, tops. Doesn't matter who is there. ASU-UD would be a dream matchup for the committee and even that won't sell it out. That same game in Chattanooga could have topped out at 30k in 2007, the same this season.

Holy Crap.

Southwest is running a "wanna get away" special from Seattle to Dallas Love Field for $129. Then, it is only a 25 mile drive to Frisco.

Good to know for NEXT year!

True, but that's b/c Appy fans could drive there. Now they have to choose between dental insurance & plane tickets...

I wouldn't worry about all the folks wanting to come not being able to get hotels in the area. Can anyone envision any possible matchup at this point that would bring a crowd of more than 10k? I can't. Folks just aren't going to make 1000+ mile trip on short notice. Good job moving the NCG to the middle of nowhere, NCAA. :ohno:

Yet thousands of Montana fans did that last two years, on even shorter notice.

This may just be a mere anecdote, but I had dinner with a colleague the other night who happens to live in Frisco. Huge college football fan. He told me that he was planning on the FCS NC game instead of the Cotton Bowl because he's got a family of 4 and doesn't want to spend an arm and a leg at Cowboys Stadium. He said that appears to be the sentiment of a lot of his friends with families as well. Maybe that will be the NCAA's saving grace.

Cotton Bowl Tickets (sold out) - Stubhub - 4 tickets together will cost you at least $900
FCS National Championship Game - $127

Let's hope so, but I wish I had a nickel for everybody who said they were going to go (so does Frisco). Talk is cheap.

There are 4 teams with solid fanbases left and coincidentally they're all in different regions of the bracket. Any combination of these 4 teams will do just fine with attendance:

App State (avg. attendance 27,145)
Delaware (19,805)
NDSU (15,944)
GSU (17,627)

I'd also venture to say that in my eyes, all of the above 4 teams are the likely winners this weekend.

The wild card will be how many locals show up.

Last year, for example, Montana fans would have had an easier time getting to Frisco. It is a flight either way, but a shorter one to Dallas. for Montana, Frisco would at least have been equal, if not better attended.

All 5 Villanova fans likely flew. They would have flown to Dallas, as well.

So how many locals will show up?

Seriously, why do we want the game to be a tough ticket? There were plenty of Appy and UD fans who got shut out of going to the game when it was in Chatty, especially with all the effort that was done to boost local turnout in the years before when attendance wasn't good. I'm not terribly concerned with how the game looks on TV in terms of whether it's packed or not. 10k-15k fans is plenty for me, and if my team is in it, then I'm pretty much certain of getting tickets. I'd rather have that then risk not being able to get tickets.

If the Hens make it there, I don't see any more than 3,000 coming.

And Appy would bring 5k so that's 8k there, couple that with another 4-5k of locals and you're looking at 12k or more. So, basically like most other playoff games being played last weekend or this weekend. Sounds right to me.

And most of that being primarily Appy St fans. Frankly, I'll take a lower attendance at Frisco than Chatty for the same game if it means that the venue goes from being a de facto Appy St home game to a neutral site game. That's a fine tradeoff for me, even if it's 2k less UD fans there (versus 10k less Appy fans).

For the same opponents Jon.

Villanova/Montana = 13k in Frisco
Villanova/Montana = 13k in Chatty
AppSt/UD = 13k in Frisco
AppSt/UD = 26k in Chatty

Again, my contention is that it should be in the location that has the greatest chance to have the greatest attendance. It's become clear that we can scratch the Southland from the NC game any time soon.
