ASU

What are you arguing with him for? They never get it, about the weather. When you live somewhere that has 11 months of winter you're not going to comprehend that a freak snow storm will catch people off guard. Also, when it's been in the 70's and the next day it's below freezing, well, trying to force comprehension of a bodys' inability to adjust to the extreme changes that fast, is just pissing into the wind.

and FWIW - it was 72 and sunny in Naconowhere and the attendance was 4938. Wanna argue piss poor? :ohno:

Pwns, The problem is the roads were NOT frozen over. The roads headed east were a little slushy, but clear.

ASUMountaineer, You gave excuses, not reasons, why people did not show up. I love all this "it was cold" garbage. It's December in Boone! Of course it’s going to be cold! Especially if it snows! People need to realize there is some really nice warm and dry clothing available these days. Wonder how many people complaining about the cold and spending $25 on a ticket plunk down three times that to go skiing? Students bitch about $5 for a ticket but have no problem dropping far more for a six pack of beer they will expel from their body in a few hours. All this goes to prove is ASU does NOT have the rabid fan base many like to think we do. FYI, this is from a 56 year old man, who has been a season ticket holder for 31 years, NEVER missed a home playoff game and has to drive 2 hours to get to Boone.

Do you think you guys are going to draw 29K this weekend?

I would think so (but without my help unfortunately). Weather's supposed to be nice (cold, but clear I believe) & school's still in session. I mean, if we can draw 28-29k for Jacksonville & NC Central, then we should draw that much for a playoff game.

Ok then, I'll give my excuses. If TXST were in a playoff game in that weather (and as much of a fan as I am...and I am) I wouldn't be there. I am 55 (Saturday) weigh 116 lbs of skin and bones (and no, I'm not underweight but I have no real body fat, either), my core body temp hovers at 97.4, I'm anemic and I just don't do cold weather well. Even with cold weather gear I wouldn't step outside in that...not anymore. When it's 72 here in mid-afternoon and it goes down to 35 overnight, I freeze my ass off.

(just thought I'd further fuel the flames)

Then you get an EXTRA big cookie.

For the people that didn't drive up the mountain, I'm sure the weather was a reason, not an excuse. Do you bitch about this every year, because this is not a shock if you have noticed playoff attendance before 2010.

As a paying customer, I don't have an obligation to go to the games, but I have reasons why I may not. I was at the game, I had no REASON to miss, others may have. That's their decision to make, who are you to judge that? You can bash ASU fans if you want, free country. I just think it's ridiculous to do so when you don't know why certain people didn't make the trip.

This from a 29 year old man, who has been a season ticket holder for 6 years, and who has missed a few playoff games due to work, grad school, and other crap that comes up (not because I want to but sometimes people have to make choices in life to do something they HAVE to do that's not necessarily what they WANT to do). Got a problem with it? I'm pretty sure the Yosef Club appreciates my donation as it does yours.

I'm glad you make it to every game (wish I could), I do the best I can. I have been at every home game this year (and for the past four years), and the Florida game. ASUG8 can vouch for my dedication to ASU athletics. But, I may not be able to make it to the next game because I have finals for my MBA next week. Is that an excuse, or a reason?

Who cares about attendance. This is about football. The facts are that App State has the highest attendance in the FCS, their playoff games are among the highest if not the highest week to week. Every school during playoff times has a huge drops with attendance for many reason. With all facts aside this is about football playoffs. It's not a popularity contest. Teams like Villanova are arguably some of the best teams in the country even if they only average 3,000 fans at home games. I could careless about the number of fans that show up to games. I love to see some college football.

We won it all last season but this year is looking to be just above .500 season for us.

I would have loved to be at a bar last night but we had a late game against UNC last night a few hours from campus.

Um, you mentioned being on a message board. You are correct sir, and being on a message board I was simply providing reasons why there were fewer fans at the App game (I was there and freezing my boys off) in response to a fellow App poster on a thread about App State.

If anyone needs to "get a life" it would be you. You felt the need to chime in, so I hope you got what you were looking for. But, whatever you need to believe...I hope you feel better man, no reason to get all pissy on a beautiful Sunday morning. Enjoy the rest of your weekend, hopefully next weekend will have less wintry weather in the High Country and we can back up the mythical "blathering" of attendance.
Okay, lets clear the air here. My point in being a dork was to be a sore winner. App Man started a thread about how good Montana fans were. Thought it would be funny to be the antithesis of a good fan. Tried to keep most of my posts light enough to get my point across, but being drunk and bitter, apparently I didn't do a good enough job.

As for getting a life, that as well was my point, I thought replying to Wincaps post almost immediately after he posted it, would show I indeed had no life.

As stated in this thread, I don't care about App's attendance. While it would have been nice to see you pack the house, I didn't lose any sleep over it last night. Believe me, I understand about weather. It snowed two inches here in Seattle last week and 50% of the city was shut down.

From what I can tell UM fans are a special bunch. I can't wait to find out, in person, in 2013. Message board humor is an acquired talent, and I certainly don't have it with those smilies to the right. Hey, at least 50% was open, down here in Charlotte, we're lucky is 50% is open when they call for a 20% chance of flurries.

You guys are getting caught up with emotion and missing the point. I NEVER said I expect everyone to make every game. Heck, I missed 2 (1 home & 1 away) this year myself! I admit to being fortunate enough to attend most of the games, but do so because I WANT to. It Iisa priority and a passion for me. The games are a mini break from the business world, the opportunity be with good friends and watch the Black & Gold once again. The point of this entire thread has to do with ASU's "rabid" fan base. It also has to do with all those kneel at the alter of the FCS playoffs and place them high above all else in college football. IF the playoffs are all that is wonderful and right with college football, why are they so poorly attended? Why does ASU draw 29,000 (at least for a half) for a regular season game against a school of 2000, but can't get 20,000 to show up for a game with so much on the line? Over the past 5 years ASU pulls in between 13,000 to 15,000. The administration was even picking up most of the ticket cost, yet a majority of the students who regularly attend games wouldn't lay down the other $5! What gives? As for the rest of our "rabid" fan base forget last week, where have they been over the years for the playoffs? The ACC Championship game drew 72,379 on a cold, damp night. Those were rabid fans. Have no problem at all with someone saying they are a casual fan and admitt to watching from home should the weather turn cold or wet. Just want everyone to be honest about it.

I am critical of those things which keep ASU from being the best it can be. Others complain about cups and ice, helmet stickers, the Nike Pro Combat uniforms, real critical issues. I mostly like to complain about the stuff that gets under the skin of the folks in the rose colored glasses. To those who don't want to be a part of the ASU program moving forward let me suggest you get out of the way. Western could use some the fans.

Maybe the answer is there just isn't too much to do in Montana. But then again Boone is in a fairly isolated area. I remember freshman year, so many students would head home to Charlotte or Raleigh for the weekend. I loved the idea of staying on campus and taking it easy regardless of there being a football game or not. I could never understand why freshman students had no problem go home to mom and dad when having just moved in.

Playoff attendance is always lower than during the regular season in Boone, for whatever reason(s), and has been that way for as long as I can remember. I don't see this as a competition with Montana,or any other school. People have the right to choose to go to the game or not. They have the right to leave at halftime or not. It's their money and time and therefore their right.

We need to get over this I'm a better fan than you attitude among our fan base.

If attendance figures were the end-all/be-all to determine the better team, then Montana would have beat Villanova last year by about a hundred points.

I have no answer as to why, and I'm not the judge. As to the playoffs, I'm with you. They are great, but not the "end-all-be-all." I am a proponent of moving up, but that's me. I don't know why we only draw 14k on average for playoff games, but my guess is that some of them are "fair weather" fans, and others just have stuff going on.

It seems logical that many plan for the regular season because it's a known quantity. The playoffs are not known, and sometimes you have only a week to plan. I don't know, but I'm just guessing. Others may only be able to budget for so many games, and so they go to ones where decent weather is expected and the games are known. Some call these excuses, but I think of them as potential explanations. I don't know why these people don't turn out for the playoffs, because I do. Just some thoughts...

Those fans may not be as "rabid" as we diehards are, but they still contribute to the university, and I thank them for that. My biggest issue with the thread here, and on AGS, is just that I don't think this is the right forum, but that's me. The rest of it is your opinion, and I appreciate that. Please read my PM on AGS, it'll explain my point a little more. I say let's let the thread die, bury the hatchet, and move on to things that matter more,--like beating the snot out of the Wildkitties this week!

I don't see this as a competition with Montana,or any other school. People have the right to choose to go to the game or not. They have the right to leave at halftime or not. It's their money and time and therefore their right.

We need to get over this I'm a better fan than you attitude among our fan base.

Ahem. You have company. 14 sellouts in 14 games at 20K per pop with a waiting list, and having only played one "rival" (W&M). Old Dominion is new, but strong.
