No local TV for Eastern - which isn't neccessarily a bad thing.

Regardless of the debate over rankings and seedings, the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision determines its national championship the right way -- with a playoff.

Eastern Washington University’s quest for a long playoff run begins this week when the No. 1 ranked and fifth-seeded Eagles host Southeast Missouri on Dec. 4 at Roos Field in Cheney, Wash., at 1:05 p.m. Pacific time. Eastern will be making its eighth FCS Playoff appearance while the Redhawks are making their first. It will be the first meeting between the two schools.

“We’re the fifth seed -- so we’re not the No. 1 team in the country,” explained Eastern head coach Beau Baldwin. “That’s where we stand and we have a little chip on our shoulder because there are still four teams ahead of us. Don’t get me wrong -- we’re excited about it and it’s an honor for our team to be ranked first in the country. But at this level it’s all about seeding and finding a champion through a true tournament rather than the polls.”

The game will not be televised locally, but will be available via webcast at http://www.ncaa.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. We're supposed to get another 4-9 inches of snow tomorrow into Wednsesday, then a 40-50% chance of snow the rest of the week in addition to the 14" we already have on the ground.

Both teams can run the ball but this might limit our passing game a bit, and could also play a roll in the special teams (we have a hard enough time making field goals in good conditions.) Will the cold affect SEMO much?

Tough to rate a QB who only has 160 some attempts all season. And that appears to be the key for EWU. Get them down early.

Running Backs - Southeast Missouri St.

I don't know much about SEMO's 2nd and 3rd string RB's, but I'd say ours are more than capable. Harris the SEMO RB has some monster numbers this year, but it's within a run-based offense where he's touching the ball a shit-load of times. EWU's offense is more balanced.

But when comparing Harris and Jones alone, you need to look at the amount of touches.

Harris averages 25.9 rushes per game and 5.7 yards per carry, and Jones averages 17.6 carries and 7.6 per carry. Including receiving and returns, Harris has touched the ball 328 times (7.4 per play) and Jones has had the ball in his hands on 213 occasions (9.2 per play). That tells the real story, IMO.

I'm not sure the stats alone give them an advantage in this area.

I also don't think the QB's are a push. Definite advantage to EWU in that department - run versus pass based offenses, and from what little I've seen of our backup QB this year he looks pretty solid.

Everything else looks about right.

I rated Harris & Jones as even. Jones is more dangerous but Harris is more consistent & durable. I gave SEMO the nod because their FB has noticeably better numbers than Beaumonte (just 2.7 ypc).

I rated Harris & Jones as even. Jones is more dangerous but Harris is more consistent & durable. I gave SEMO the nod because their FB has noticeably better numbers than Beaumonte (just 2.7 ypc).

That makes sense. I think Jones is probably a more explosive player, but Harris is a more conventional running back - more durable and able to handle more carries per game.

Didn't get a lot of touches this year, but true Freshman Brown out of Berkeley, CA will be one to watch. Playing behind Jones and Beumonte, his best performance this year was 11-51 against ISU, but he has a lot of potential.

Henry Harris, is a good rusher. Taiwan Jones is alot better. That is all.
