I don't get all this intra-conference camaraderie bullshit that pops up every year at playoff time. We're rivals any other week, why the hell should I root for another team in the CAA or Big Sky just cuz neither team made it? I just don't get it
Suppose that the CAA gets 4 teams in the playoffs and they all lose their first playoff game. That will be factored into the playoff discussion next year and the CAA might only get 2 or 3 teams in.
If all 4 CAA teams advance in the playoffs the chances of a 5th team getting in down the road increase.
You aren't rooting for conference mates because you are all of a sudden supposed to like them, but because their success/failure may affect your team later on.

Re: Who are you supporting?
UNI first-off, since that fanbase has suffered for quite awhile
If EWU and MSU do well I'll be happy for some of their fans (and vice versa)
I'll root against the entire CAA so we can have a freaking relieve from their fans though... hopefully

The Big Sky, EWU first then MSU. It sucks they could meet each other in the 3rd round.

Yeah, you know the committee probably set that trash up on purpose.CPAlum wrote:EWU.... The west coast doesn't have anybody else to support. Second would be Montana St. Sucks that one will likely knock out the other.
Looks to me, thought that of those actually IN, the two biggest screw-jobs are Delaware and UNI. There's no way one loss should cost a seeded team TWO slots. UNI is a good team that is in a crazy-hard region. Yikes!

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Exactly. They had to travel to Boone twice, and they played well when they got there. I'm sure the ASU people respect them.clenz wrote:The fact that SCSU has been really damn tough in the playoffs the last two seasons is what helps them this yearChoppinBroccoli wrote:

JMU could of made the playoffs at 6-5 and NO ONE would of had a problem with it.

Another ridiculous strawman post. I would have a huge problem with it, as would many of the JMU fans on this board.DSUrocks07 wrote:What do you think makes the CAA so great?ChoppinBroccoli wrote:So, there really are quality losses.![]()

6-5 is a line the NCAA doesn't want to cross.
Again, all SC State has proven to date is that they are able to lose to good teams.

I would have. Don't dump a 6-5 team in there just because they're from the CAA.DSUrocks07 wrote:What do you think makes the CAA so great?ChoppinBroccoli wrote:So, there really are quality losses.![]()

Yet people are arguing that their teams have a better resume with losses to bad teams. Re: Who are you supporting?
I know this was mentioned earlier in this forum but I too don't understand why we pull for rivals in the playoffs simply because they are in the same conference. With all respect to georgia southern fans, I'm not going to start pulling for gsu if App State gets knocked out of the playoffs. I know we all like the idea of being in "the best" or "toughest" conference but who cares. I'm pulling for a conference title and/or national championship. If gsu or Wofford win a national championship then App State fans and everyone else in the SoCon wouldn't hear the end of it. I'm pulling for App State and a few underdog teams.

I won't bother repeating my explanation as to why it's good for ASU if their conference mates do well in the playoffs, but I did post one earlier in this thread if you care to look.Wincaps wrote:I know this was mentioned earlier in this forum but I too don't understand why we pull for rivals in the playoffs simply because they are in the same conference. I'll be pulling for:
1. Montana State
2. Eastern Washington
3. Whoever plays against App - if they get knocked out, we get home field longer (assuming we win, of course).

If that's the argument, ODU had no bad losses either, was undefeated against the MEAC and Big South, and was 4-0 on the road.DSUrocks07 wrote: Yet people are arguing that their teams have a better resume with losses to bad teams. Taking out SC State's games against GT and Benedict, SC State beat 8 FCS teams whose combined record was 29-58. ODU beat 8 FCS teams whose combined record was 29-59. But the difference is, ODU's teams actually beat other OOC opponents in the FCS, while SC State's opponents were beating up on D2 teams because of "tradition" before they went to conference play.
Then again, SC State only had one FCS loss against a 10-1 Bethune-Cookman. ODU had 3 losses...against 8-3 W&M, 7-4 Cal Poly, and 10-1 Jacksonville. But ODU played a full FCS schedule while SC State decided to play against Georgia Tech and...Benedict.

CP & Jacksonville aren't bad losses, but they are questionable. And ODU's best win was Hampton; at least SCSU had a 19-0 win at 8-3 FAMU.∞∞∞ wrote:If that's the argument, ODU had no bad losses either, was undefeated against the MEAC and Big South, and was 4-0 on the road.DSUrocks07 wrote: Yet people are arguing that their teams have a better resume with losses to bad teams. Re: Who are you supporting?
Hmmm very true! I have thought about it before but how about this... I'm assuming you are a Griz fan right? Though you want your state to be seen as a great place for football, wouldn't it at least bug you hear something like how Montana didn't make the playoffs but Montana State won a national title. I just know that some fans are ruthless. Look at Ohio State fans. They LOVE it when Michigan loses and for the most part I think a majority of the fans would hate to see Michigan win a national title. Anyway, not a big deal. Just looking at it from a different points of view.Grizalltheway wrote:Well, my team is out of it, so I'd like the remaining team from my state to represent us well on a national level.Wincaps wrote:I know this was mentioned earlier in this forum but I too don't understand why we pull for rivals in the playoffs simply because they are in the same conference. Unfortunately, Trip, you only make a better case for Jacksonville by pimping ODU.∞∞∞ wrote:If that's the argument, ODU had no bad losses either, was undefeated against the MEAC and Big South, and was 4-0 on the road.DSUrocks07 wrote: Yet people are arguing that their teams have a better resume with losses to bad teams. JU lost to FCS as many times as SCSU did, had more DI wins, and a win over ODU. If the committee likes "not losing" then Dayton or Jacksonville shoulda been in. Both of the PFL teams lost only one game, both to playoff eligible teams, and won 9 DI games. Both beat playoff eligible teams (RMU, ODU).
It's clear the "history" of SCSU and the MEAC was the culprit here. There's no logical reason why, based on 2010, SCSU should have made the playoffs, considering the teams they competed against. And that doesn't just mean Liberty, that means DU/JU/ODU/CCSU and JMU/Montana/UMass/Richmond as well. SCSU should be 9th on that list of teams.
Oh well.

I was just using ODU as an example 'cause they're my team and I didn't wanna do research on other teams. I don't think ODU should've made the playoffs and I actually do believe that Jacksonville should have gotten a spot over SC State. But just tryin' to point out that if SC State is in (which I obviously don't believe they should), then an undeserving ODU should probably be in too.ToTheLeft wrote:Unfortunately, Trip, you only make a better case for Jacksonville by pimping ODU.∞∞∞ wrote: If that's the argument, ODU had no bad losses either, was undefeated against the MEAC and Big South, and was 4-0 on the road.
