Foster had 30 TDs while Rennie has just 22. He also beat App State that year when they had defeated Michigan and was the most dynamic player in FCS that year. You really shouldn't compare the two. Foster was a much better player than Rennie has been this year. Not saying Rennie can't be that good but he is a half step slower than Foster. Another thing I want to mention is that you will hear a lot of us scout type folks say that a player 5'7 165 pounds is just too small to even warrant a look by the NFL but Foster got a shot in camp with a couple teams. He broke the mold and did something that is just not done coming from a small school. Rennie is not quite good enough to break a barrier like Foster did such as that one.clenz wrote:Low passing numbers don't keep people from winning the Payton:SmallCollegeFBFan wrote:
High interception numbers and low passing yards and touchdowns are why he has been kept off. Like I said in a previous post I would be surprised if he is not on the preseason watch list for next year. I can understand where you are coming from though. If he has a big game this weekend I will add him to the players to watch section.
2007 payton award winner Jayson Foster:
109-170 for 1203 yards with 6TDs and 4INTs
261 rushes for 1844 yards, 24 TD's and a 7.1 YPC
Rennie's passing stats are superior, and rushing stats are about par.

That's a close one but I would say yes. If Ijalana was the same size as Roos he would be a top 10-15 pick and I have no hesitation about saying that.Screamin_Eagle174 wrote:Better than Roos?SmallCollegeFBFan wrote:Ijalana is the best offensive lineman I have seen in FCS in 10 years.
With that said, I still expect him go to between 25-50 and really believe he will end up going higher than Roos did.
Ijalana is good enough to break a barrier that scouts have on players. When a small school tackle is 6'4 scouts usually move them to guard automatically but Ijalana might not have to. Several teams believe he can stay at tackle and that is unbelievably rare for a 6'4 tackle.

I wasn't saying Rennie is as good as Jayson. I was making a point that you said he wasn't even hitting radars because of his passing yards, but I thought I'd show you that big passing numbers aren't a pre-req to win the Payton.SmallCollegeFBFan wrote:Foster had 30 TDs while Rennie has just 22. Now, to further make your point that he shouldn't be on the list and justify yourself, you are saying that he doesn't deserve to be ther because he doesn't have an NFL body and won't get an NFL shot? I mean come on, that is ludacris.
Is Rennis going to get 8 more TD's and 600 more yards rushing in the last regular season game to match those numbers? Nope. Have I once claimed Rennie should win the award or be at the top of the award watch list? Nope.
Was Foster a better player? At this point, no question. Does that mean Rennie doesn't deserve the recognition he should be getting? No.
Rennie has been the MVFC offensive player of the week or new comer of the week nearly every week this year. At this point you are just reaching for reasons to keep him off.
With all of that said, you know I love the work you do. I also know I couldn't come up with 1/4th the quality stuff you come up with.

No no no that is not what I am saying. I was just pointing out that Foster was such a special running talent and athlete overall that he overcame being so small to still get a shot in the NFL. That was just a testament to how athletically talented he was. He earned the Payton Award because we as voters, and I voted him first on my ballot, saw that he could do just about anything. No his passing numbers were not good but he was an all-socon caliber receiver, return man, and the most explosive runner in FCS that year. He got the award because we was an overall great athlete.clenz wrote:I wasn't saying Rennie is as good as Jayson. I'm saying Rennie is not quite there yet and the fact he struggled throwing so early in the season I just couldn't justify putting a player with no previous body of work on the list with those type of interception numbers.
Do I think Rennie is a good player right now? Yes I do. Do I think he deserves to be mentioned as a Payton candidate yet? Not quite yet. I believe he becomes a solid candidate in the preseason next year though. The reason I say that is because graduation is going to take a lot of quarterbacks and players like him, BJ Coleman at UTC, Josh McGregor of JU, etc. who are not even in the top 10-15 for the award at this point become solid candidates.

I've been watching him for 3 years and I still can't get over the balance. The run against Sac is one for the ages.

That Jones highlight reel was pretty good..but I'd be thanking my Oline for some of those runs..talk about GAPS!

I'd thank that "ghost formation" defense the big sky teams like to run...UCABEAR wrote:That Jones highlight reel was pretty good..but I'd be thanking my Oline for some of those runs..talk about GAPS!
Kidding of course, Jones is a hell of a back.

I have said it before and I will say it again. He is the best RB in FCS by a long shot. His speed and explosiveness are NFL caliber. He will be a top 100 draft pick in 2012 if he bulks up some and runs wild next year as well.clenz wrote:I'd thank that "ghost formation" defense the big sky teams like to run...UCABEAR wrote:That Jones highlight reel was pretty good..but I'd be thanking my Oline for some of those runs..talk about GAPS!
