I can't say I'm surprised. Either he was going to resign or be fired, Furman has struggled the last couple years - including this year's collapse.

I am going to the GSU-Furman game with a FU buddy of mine and have been planning this for a month. NEVER saw this coming. Really thought he would stay for at least another year. Who is on FU's short list? Folks at UFFP mentioned Des Kitchings, but maybe Furman goes after a guy with head coaching experience?

I've read something saying that Air Forces OL Coach Clay Hendricks is in the running. The SoCon could become the option conference.

Most know that Lamb has been a part of Furman football since 1982. He has been with the team in some capacity for every playoff game we have been in and we have been in many. He has participated in some fashion for almost 1/3 of all the football games Furman has ever played and we have been playing since 1889. He maybe the best QB I have ever seen play at Furman, not from athleticism but the ability to read defenses and make the appropriate decisions on the field. Whether Furman's downturn can be laid at Bobby's feet or on the recent administration that provided very little support for the football program can be argued forever. Either way, Bobby will always be one of my favorite Paladins.

I was talking with my wife about that last night and observed that Bobby has been in Greenville since 1982 and now is unemployed and has no official connection to the institution he has spent HIS ENTIRE ADULT LIFE at. I can't even begin to imagine how difficult this is for him and his family.

Rivalry aside my heart goes out to him and his family. I really feel sorry for him and wish him the best.

Both sets of fans gave him a standing O today after the game which I thought was very classy on GSU's part. What a freaking game today!!! Best SoCon game I saw this entire season. I hear Robbie Caldwell will not be retained by Vandy so maybe he comes back to Furman? Good luck regardless. It was a perfect day today at Paladin Stadium except the final score. Yes, I was rooting for Furman. HA!

As one of many rival fans of Furman on this board I must admit sadness at seeing an era pass. I agree with one of the above posters regarding QB Lamb's ability to play his position and play it quite well.
Though I consider FU to be a hated rival I must admit Coach Lamb had quite a run. I for one, am sorry to see him go and even sorrier he had to leave on a losss. No offense intended to GSU or their fans either.

A pipe dream to think Chuck Burch would give him a call. Talk about someone with the ability to shake up our dead program. Might require too much $$$ however.

Would FU consider Frankie DeBusk at Tusculum?

Yes, My heart too. Very difficult to watch saturday. I was quite disappointed with some of our fans. Even if you think a change was needed (which is possible) there were some (the vast minority) that disappointed me with their callousness and lack of understanding that nobody has invested more in Furman Football than Bobby Lamb. I certainly hope one day he returns and his jersey number is retired. My guess is if it happens it will be a few years off when emotions are running a little less deep.

I would guess that Debusk would be on the short list, but no idea what position he would be on that list.

Bobby shouldn't have a problem landing somewhere. Either as an assitant or a head.

Some of the names mentioned from the Furman Family:

Napier
DeBusk
Caldwell
Hendrix
Kitchens

With a new President who is not part of the extended Furman Family, we may be going outside.

blueballs, did you make the game?

I walked through the GSU tailgating section to see if I saw any familiar faces. Savannah Eagle saw me (My eyes are really to bad to pick out faces:-))

I have a new appreciation for the red flag gang. Geez there were red flags everywhere

I was surprised to hear this - Bobby has given his life to Furman athletics and it's a shame that he'll finish his career elsewhere. He's a good coach and I wish him the best! :thumb:

No, I didn't make it as I was playing ball in Florida Half Centruy this past weekend. I'm sorry I missed meeting you... perhaps next year at the Red Flag Gang in the 'boro???

I did get to watch the game though on the Furman feed and it was worth the $7. Your PBP guy and Corey Stewart did a pretty good job and were very professional. Good camera angles, good replays, overall a good presentation even if the feed did go out a couple of times.

Furman really needs to recruit heavily on the defensive side of the ball. I was amazed at how GSU's o-line that is made up of freshmen and sophomores with little depth was able to wear Furman's defensive front 7 comletely out in the fourth quarter. The clinical precision of it was impressive and fun to watch but IMO it said as much about Furman's lack of depth as it did about GSU's execution.

I think Corey does a good job doing color. In defense of our defense, they have been tired all year. During the year, They played twice as many downs as our offense :(

The list now seems to be Napier, Caldwell and Shoop from W&M. I am sure there are others.

Also talk about Quarles, a FU alum and former player who coaches high school in Tenn. Won something like 7 state titles and from what everyone says is a football whiz. He would be an interesting pick.

Word is the next Furman coach will be Bruce Fowler, DC at Vanderbilt and former Furman asst and player.

Apparently people that know the Vanderbilt staff have confirmed it.

OL FU -
Any word on additional fallout with Bobby's departure? Any of the supporting cast have a shot at staying on, or will Fowler likely shake the whole thing up?

Good Question. No clue. Gotta wonder if any of the Vandy cast would come as I am certain it would be a major pay cut. Of course they may not have a job so they might make the leap.
