More pressure on MSU: win they are BSC co-champs and have the autobid and possible seed; lose, they are third in the pecking order of BSC playoff teams. It's possible for UM to make the top 20 with a loss; have you forgotten when MSU got a home game, let alone top 16, with 7-4 in 2006 after getting beaten by UM?

Re: Montana State does not play well on the Road
Having followed this rivalry for nearly 35 years now, I can tell you that it does not do any good to try to rationalize this game beforehand. It is fun coming up with all the stats and figuring things out on paper, but when the game is played, all that is thrown out (it does sound like a cliche, but it is true). At the end, things happen that cause both sides to say "I didn't see THAT coming." There is usually a surprise or two from each side.
Cats have struggled on the road, Griz are tough at home, that is true. All that means come Saturday is that it is 0-0 and it is Cat-Griz (or Griz-Cat).

Other than that, I agree with you. Doesn't matter if one team is 10-0 and the other 0-10.

Since when have the sCats earned the right to name the rivalry? If I remember correctly the Adams Center has a permanent spot for the trophy that would have gathered years of dust (if we didn't have such good staff to take care of it).cats2506 wrote:Always has been Cat/Griz, unless you want to newbie griz bandwagon tardJALMOND wrote:Having followed this rivalry for nearly 35 years now, I can tell you that it does not do any good to try to rationalize this game beforehand. Until the sCats can prove otherwise.... Griz/cat
And BTW, I think being a fan of the Griz since '84 (my b-day year) would not make me a bandwagon fan.
Also note of bandwagon fans... I have been a fan of the Detroit Lions for as long as I can remember as well.

If you've been around since '84, of course you will refer to it as "Griz-Cat". Montana has always been the dominate team in the rivalry and the conference for as long as you've been around. But some of us go back before that when the other Montana state school had the power team, hence "Cat-Griz".ArmyOfDarkness wrote:Since when have the sCats earned the right to name the rivalry? But you know which game I'll be watching, although "Vik-Jack" does not quite have the same ring to it.

Well, some of us go back to the late 19th century and, since then, we've been the dominant team in the rivalry.JALMOND wrote:If you've been around since '84, of course you will refer to it as "Griz-Cat". As fro the rest of the series though it's a Griz ownership. If we didn't win another game until the year 2044 the Cats would finally even the record though.

Re: Montana State does not play well on the Road
Can't be as bad as the game I went to in Bozeman (I think either 91 or 92). 8 degrees at kickoff, the snow was up to the pickup's floorboards in the tailgate area and was halfway up my knee in the stands. You couldn't sit down, you had to stand the whole game. I was with a group of both Cat fans and Griz fans so it wasn't a case of the stadium crew only clearing the Cats portion of the stadium. Still a great time had by all (must have been if I still remember it almost 20 years later).Wedgebuster wrote:Checking the weather here......really maybe kinda deserves it's own thread-

Re: Montana State does not play well on the Road
if you would take the time and research this topic properly, in places like your Missoula/Bozeman campus libraries, you will find that originally:
if the game was to be played in Bozeman, it was referred to as Cat/Griz,
if the game was to be played in Missoula, it was referred to as Griz/Cat.
Missoula started playing Bozeman in Butte, it was during this time that the game took on the "Cat/Griz" moniker permanently.
