Play the NCAA Selection Committee game
Play the NCAA Selection Committee game
If you were on the board, and you had the following teams to choose from (Don't complain that none belong in, this is your choices) and USING THE CURRENT RULES which state that a team with less than 7 DI wins "May" be eliminated from consideration, who do you pick for the last spot?
This is a situation the committee might face, so you should face it, too!

I think this is a silly poll beacuse the answer is NONE OF THE ABOVE.
But if you are going to be serious and include teams like Duquense (7-4), Liberty (8-3), and ODU (8-3), then I voted for OTHER and put up Central Connecticut (8-3)
- CCSU beat Duquense head-to-head.
- Central and Liberty share a loss to RMU, have similar losses to JMU/UNH, and CCSU lost to YSU, while LU lost to CCU.
- CCSU has a higher Sargin computer ranking than EVERYONE on that list except Jacksonville, JMU & Montana!

I knew I was forgetting someone. I replaced "Other" with "CCSU" so your vote now counts for CCSU.aceinthehole wrote:I think this is a silly poll beacuse the answer is NONE OF THE ABOVE.

I don't buy your reasoning, especially using Sagarin numbers. If that's the case, Nova and Sac State should get in first because their computer numbers are GAUDY despite not having 7 DI wins.

Re: Play the NCAA Selection Committee game
Any reason why? Past history? Knowing they'll bid big money? That's a viable reason considering the NCAA.AZGrizFan wrote:I picked SC State.
They'd have 8 DI wins, which does not set them apart from this list. They have no OOC wins in DI play except 0-10 MVSU. They play in a conference that's 1-10 OOC or something like that, but their only win OOC is that same win over hapless Mississippi Valley State. They don't have a leg to stand on. They lost to Bethune Cookman (at home in a shutout), who's ranked 75th in Sagarin.
I just don't see it. I don't like any of the teams as an at large, but certainly not a second MEAC team.

Re: Play the NCAA Selection Committee game
Among the listed bubble teams with 7 or more DI wins, Jacksonville is probably the best.
Re: Play the NCAA Selection Committee game
As of the moment, 11:33AM Sunday Nov 14, that I cast my vote I went with SCSU.

Re: Play the NCAA Selection Committee game
Like I said yesterday, the MEAC as a conference has 1 OOC win against the FCS (SCSU against 0-10 Mississippi Valley St). At this point, the Pioneer League should get an at-large over the MEAC.
Re: Play the NCAA Selection Committee game
In my opinion, if you're strictly sticking to the 7 DI wins rule, Jacksonville and LU are the only two with anything that stands out. JU beat a decent ODU team and only lost to App. LU beat an FBS. No one else has anything else that stands out.

But CCSU has the computer ranking AND the required wins when looking at this list!ToTheLeft wrote: I don't buy your reasoning, especially using Sagarin numbers. If that's the case, Nova and Sac State should get in first because their computer numbers are GAUDY despite not having 7 DI wins.
The computer rankings have count for something, but you want to ignore them because it puts Liberty on the outside looking in.
The fact is the "power conferences" have better numbers despite lacking the qualifing wins because they play a tougher schedule. I still think one of those teams gets in with 6 DI wins (7 total wins).
Re: Play the NCAA Selection Committee game
If JMU wins next week and ends up 6-5, I think they get in because of the VT win. I personally believe Montana's already locked up a spot. If sports has taught me anything (especially in football), name recognition counts for a lot. Unfair? Probably.

I also think it's clear the MEAC has NO SHOT for an at-large team.

I'd vote JMU, because they have played quality opponents and beaten VPI.
However, none of them really belong in the playoffs.

I too chose SCSt. Past history, knowing they'll bid and they have decent attendance. MEAC has gotten a second team before, deserving or not.ToTheLeft wrote:Any reason why? Past history? Knowing they'll bid big money? That's a viable reason considering the NCAA.AZGrizFan wrote:I picked SC State.

Fair enough. It's a joke, but it's fair enough of a point.

Re: Play the NCAA Selection Committee game
Unless Montana lays an egg against Montana State this weekend I believe their already in the field. I went with JMU as I think the VT win carries some weight, they beat Liberty and just knocked off William & Mary. Their 2-5 in the conference but they were in about every game they lost (yes I know some don't think that matters - a loss is a loss). The rest of those teams just don't have a playoff quality resume IMO.

Not that I'd advocate for anyone getting in at 6-5, but what Top 25 BCS team has the SouthernLand beaten?CatMom wrote:aka - they're in the CAAChetSteadman wrote:I'd vote JMU, because they have played quality opponents and beaten VPI.

If they're going to take a 6 DI win team, and it's not JMU, then it's an injustice, or it's a cash grab because they picked the Griz.

Re: Play the NCAA Selection Committee game
I voted SC State. If a 6 win team gets a bid it will be UM. CP screwed the pooch with their choke at home against cal-davis and SUU won’t have 6 D-1 wins so the GWC won’t contribute anything towards the playoffs. I think that will open a spot for a 3rd BSC team. The $$$ alone will sway it their way too. So yeah I have no idea why I voted SC State. I should have voted UM.

Re: Play the NCAA Selection Committee game
Oh Please, play Houston (with Keenum) or TCU with Dalton or A&M with Johnson and we'll talk. I'm more impressed with APP's upcoming game with FL than VT. Think about it. How good is VT really? They lost to a 5-5 FCS teamPenthouseClosedEnd wrote:Not that I'd advocate for anyone getting in at 6-5, but what Top 25 BCS team has the SouthernLand beaten?CatMom wrote: aka - they're in the CAA
Not that I care one way or the other. I'm just making points and having a bit of fun.
That said, CAA teams do get votes for beating CAA teams. As I have said, the SLC has been a clusterfuck. Everyone beating anyone every week. What a disaster. However, people argue this team or that, with better records, shouldn't get seeded or voted higher than a lesser record CAA team....why? Because they're not a CAA team or playing a CAA slate....and a lot of you know it.
I have no stake in this game, hell I'm arguing against SFA being that high (have all year) and I would rather had seen CalPoly in ahead of a same record CAA team, not just because of their record but because of the brutality of their 2010 schedule.

I'm not sure this poll is fair. There are at least FOUR of these teams IMO that are playoff worthy.
FWIW, I chose Liberty. But the tug for Montana was there, too.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.
