Huge 4th and short coming. I think Hilliard is hurt. He didn't have a good week last week and is doing terrible this game as well.

28-15 Final. I only caught the second half but the Hornet offense looked like crap aside from that one TD. We definitely didn't deserve the win as PSU was able to move the ball but couldn't get into the endzone. Major props to our D for being able to make stops late. PSU will be scary when Burton recruits some talent.
Good luck the rest of the way PSU.

I heard Fleming is a transfer, how many more years does he have? That first half he just could not miss. I try to stay on top of things pertaining to the Big Sky, but I did not know much about him. I was wondering how you guys were staying afloat after Bethel-Thompson went out, but I thought you were relying on Hilliard more. Fleming won this game for you. Very good kid and a very impressive win for the Hornets.SDHornet wrote:28-15 Final. I only caught the second half but the Hornet offense looked like crap aside from that one TD. Re: Portland State at Sacramento State
Thanks. Fleming transferred from NM State the week before the first game. NMSU wanted to use him as a “Wildcat” only player so he wanted out. The Hornets were thin at QB so we took him. MBT was hurt in the first game and Fleming came on. He has really saved our season. Fleming hasn’t been all that good but he has seemed to finally settle down. He does have some accuracy issues and if he can get it together, he will be dangerous as he can use his legs to escape pressure and run the option. The roster has him listed as a JR.

Phil Steele had him at a junior as well. Also had him projected as the starter at NMSU. Quite a find for the Hornets. Is he a local kid or how did he find out about Sac State? I can't think of it being similar to Mitchell at EWU as EWU at least has a good tradition of quarterbacks.SDHornet wrote:Thanks. Fleming transferred from NM State the week before the first game. Steele said he is from Fullerton. Maybe you had some guys who were familiar with him. Probably similar with us when we picked up White from Colorado many moons ago (2005 I think). Nice find.

No idea. All I know is he wanted to be a QB and he is from CA. Sac offered him a shot and he took it.JALMOND wrote:Phil Steele had him at a junior as well. Re: Portland State at Sacramento State
Fleming was the starter for New Mexico State last year after playing a year for Fullerton JC. Word is that Montana State was after him when he was looking to transfer, his parents encouraged him to go to Sac. Our radio guys said that they come up from Southern California for all his games. As SD Hornet said, accuracy has been a issue especially early on which is understandable considering he only had 3 days practice with the team before the Stanford game. His timing has improved a lot and he can burn you with his legs too. Great pick up for us, especially coming when he did. He should be really good next season!JALMOND wrote:Phil Steele had him at a junior as well. Also had him projected as the starter at NMSU. Quite a find for the Hornets. By the way just got back from the game, your guys played hard and never gave up. We were getting nervous, Coach Burton has the Viks on the right path!

I personally think Fleming is one of the best QB's to ever play at Sac. For being thrown into the fire the first week after arriving on campus, he has done an awesome job.

I agree. I know I have been frustrated at times by his lack of accuracy but I think we are finally seeing him turn the corner.Green Cookie Monster wrote:I personally think Fleming is one of the best QB's to ever play at Sac. Fleming is to be commended for his reaction to being thrown into the fire, but I have a few others I'd put into the "best at Sac State" role. Of course, I'm personally biased, so perhaps my vote doesn't count....

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Flemming sure couldn't miss in that second half against MSU...
Sac has some talent and it seems they are finally getting ride of that "loser" culture (by that I mean they expect to WIN), and if they get in the right mindset, they could start challenging for the league championship in years to come.

Re: Portland State at Sacramento State
I said before, this year in the Big Sky so many games have been really close that it all came down to those teams that KNOW how to win (EWU, MSU, UM and to a certain extent, NAU) versus those teams that are LEARNING how to win (Sac State, PSU, UNC and to a certain extent, ISU). It has happened so many times in the conference this year, those teams that are not used to winning take a lead with just a couple minutes left in the game, only to have those teams that are used to winning march down the field and take the victory away in the last seconds. There is a difference in the mindset there.catbob wrote:Flemming sure couldn't miss in that second half against MSU...
