CCSU at RMU
Has there ever been a bigger NEC game? This is for the NEC's first playoff bid. Yes, both teams have games remaining (RMU has Bryant, CCSU has Monmouth and St Francis) but really, this is the game for the title. Hard to believe that RMU has gotten more attention, but it would seem that CCSU has really been the one flying under the radar. What's the skinny NEC folks?

Re: CCSU at RMU
If RMU wins they will have the NEC AQ because of all tie-breaker scenarios.
If CCSU wins they will still need some help.
I think RMU wins this one easily. CCSU's weakness is run defense. RMU can run the ball better than anyone in the NEC.
RMU -35
CCSU - 21

Re: CCSU at RMU
In reply to the attention to RMU:
RMU has been knocking on the door and some key injuries last year postponed their run. Their win over Liberty and CCSU losing to UNH & YSU giving up a total of 97 points was an early indicator for predictors. Since, RMU has taken care of business while the Blue Devils quietly wait till the last minute to win their games. Also a look at the scheduling RMU has the "toughest" teams at home, and 4 homers in a row. Liberty 9/18, then 10/9 Monmouth, 10/16 Albany, a week off then 10/30 Duquesne, and Saturday CCSU... The "weaker" teams all on the road >> cudos to their AD!
This game pairs strengths against weaknesses for both teams ... on paper ... should be a great game to watch.
I'm predicting a CCSU victory 20 - 15 in the rain. (be happy if you have the 5-0 in the pool)

Re: CCSU at RMU
RMU might have the best/worst conference schedule within the NEC. It all depends on the year. For 2010 it has been great as they get the 'big boys' at home. But last year they had to play all those schools away and in 2011 its the same thing.
This is a going to be a great game on Saturday.

Re: CCSU at RMU
Yes, the biggest game in NEC history.
RMU clinches the AQ with a win. If CCSU wins, they would only needs 1 more win in their last 2 (at Monmouth or vs Saint Francis) to earn the AQ.
RMU has to be the favorite at home and with the Miles/Sinclair combo. This is a very good team, one of the best ever in the NEC. They have all the tools and seem to have a great team chemistry.
CCSU is young and has flown in under the radar. The defending champs may have the best O-Line and QB in the league. However, our run D is very suspect and is the obvious weak link. Central is under-rated based on some early losses, but has gotten better each week. Stoping Dorcher this week was huge for us.
I really think CCSU pulls off the upset. Granted, that's mostly homer talk, but if we can key on Miles and force RMU to pass the ball I think good things can happen. I fully expect CCSU to be down at the half - possibly by 2 scores. But as NEC guys know, we make some of the best haltime adjustments on Defense and our offense will wear you down and take adavantage of any little weakness we can find.
I'll have more this week, but I think this is going to be a very good game.

Robert Morris and Central Connecticut State will meet on November 6 in a battle of NEC unbeatens at Joe Walton Stadium. Both RMU and CCSU rolled to league home victories this past Saturday with the help of this week’s NEC football honorees. Robert Morris halfback Myles Russ shares the NEC Offensive Player of the Week award with Bryant’s Jordan Brown. Russ totaled 166 yards from scrimmage in a 34-11 win over Steel City rival Duquesne and became the program’s all-time rushing leader in the process. Meanwhile, Brown ran for a career-high 200 yards and two touchdowns in a home win over Albany. Central Connecticut Blue Devils claim the other three NEC weekly honors for their efforts in a 38-20 win over Wagner. CCSU junior Charles Williams is the NEC Defensive Player of the Week after his breakout performance helped the Blue Devils break the game open in the third quarter. Receiver Josue Paul scored Central’s final touchdown on a 90-yard kickoff return to garner NEC Special Teams Player of the Week honors. The NEC rookie award goes to CCSU freshman running back Chris Tolbert who rushed for a pair of scores in victory.

Any chance we'll get the online broadcast on Channelsurfing? If you email the channelsurfing guys in advance they'll usually put it up.aceinthehole wrote:This is going to be a good game, I only wish it was on TV.

RMU has a decent online play-by-play team too. Although the sideline reporter can get annoying. Video work is good though.

Re: CCSU at RMU
Not sure if channelsurfing does audio only. CCSU will just have audio streamed: RMU as the home team will likely have the video online.
CCSU broadcasts all of its home football games with audio and video (decent camera work from the press box) on its website (subcription service). However, the away games are just an audio feed of the CCSU play-by-play (also subscription).
The games that are picked up by ESPN 1410 (such as this week) get a good announcing crew - Bruce Biel who does CCSU hoops for ESPN Radio and Jason Page of ESPN Radio (a poor man's Colin Cowheard).

Should be a great game as I've followed both these teams throughout the season. The NEC AQ will more than likely play opening weekend, any hopes that either RMU or CCSU will host?

I don't think so. Both have very small stadiums (under 5,000).AppStateAlumQC wrote:Should be a great game as I've followed both these teams throughout the season. The NEC AQ will more than likely play opening weekend, any hopes that either RMU or CCSU will host?

Re: CCSU at RMU
Good article on the CCSU coaching staff and new players; and the improvment of the team as the season progressed.
http://www.courant.com/sports/college/h ... 4817.story" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;NEW BRITAIN — When the Central Connecticut football team converged for its first preseason practice, it was like the offensive unit was starting from scratch.
Coordinator Tim Stowers, quarterbacks coach Adam Lechtenberg and wide receivers coach Marty Humphrey were all new. The starting quarterback, Gunnar Jespersen, was a transfer from a California junior college while running back Everette Benjamin arrived from the defunct Hofstra program.
The style would not deviate from a team that was 9-3 and won the Northeast Conference in 2009, but there was uncertainty.
"Was I worried?" coach Jeff McInerney said. "I knew it was going to take time . . . but I knew we'd get better, too. We had the people in place."

2 minutes into the game and RMU drives down the field getting big chunks of yards and winding up in the end zone.
7-0 RMU.
7-0 RMU.

CCSU's kickoff coverage is horrible. Short kicks and good returns are giving RMU the ball near medifiled on their 1st 2 driives
RMU scores their 2nd TD passing.

CCSU is looking good on the offensive side of the ball. Certainly has the ability to keep up with RMU.
