Big Sky Predictions 10-23
35-5 heading into this weekend. I am hoping for a perfect weekend this time around. This may be the first hint of weather as all four games are being played near the mountains of the Big Sky and with a cold front coming through, things could get interesting. Also, out of what is now the top four in the conference, everyone but NAU is playing at home. Maybe time for some separation (finally)? Here are this week's predictions in the Big Sky. Once again, all are my opinion only and all are open for discussion. Only ISU is not playing so there should be some good ones out there.
NAU @ UM---A few may have speculated that the Jacks were going to beat Montana State last week, but few would have thought it would be a blowout. The Jacks jumped on MSU quickly in the beginning and soon the rout was on. The Grizzlies, meanwhile, were in a dogfight at Portland State, needing a last minute drive from Roper to set up a last second field goal to win the game. For most of their game, the Grizzlies looked terrible on offense, yet came through when they needed to. For once, the Jacks looked awesome on both sides of the ball. So what happens here?...UM 21, NAU 17.
UNC @ MSU---Last week the Bears took advantage of their home field and some lackadaisical plays from Eastern Washington to stay in the game until the end, something few people were thinking was going to happen. The Bobcats, however, came into Northern Arizona feeling pretty good about themselves, yet left demoralized after being routed by the Jacks. One has to think that the Bobcats have the attention of their coach and with the game in Bozeman, do the Bears really have a chance?...MSU 42, UNC 10.
PSU @ WSU---This game is interesting. Both teams have shown they have pretty potent offenses, by ignoring the FBS games, both teams are near the top of the conference standings in total offense. What has been the downfall of both teams have been turnovers, where they both are at the bottom. Last week was a good point. The Vikings fumbled the ball 7 times, and lost to Montana in a close game. The Wildcats suffered the turnover bug, too, yet still found a way to win against Idaho State. Who wants this game more?...PSU 24, WSU 16.
Sac State @ EWU---This game features two of the more explosive running backs in the conference with Jones for the Eagles and Hilliard for the Hornets. Jones showed what he could do last week as he put the Eagles on his back and led them to a closer than expected win over Northern Colorado. The Hornets with Hilliard have been a pleasant surprise and are coming off of a bye last week. The Hornets have never beat the Eagles in Sacramento, but this game is in Cheney. Still, close but not good enough...EWU 28, Sac State 26.
Still wanting perfection.

Re: Big Sky Predictions 10-23
Copied from the other thread:
PSU over WSU - WSU has had a huge fall off from last year so far, no reason to expect them to clean up their act now.
MSU over UNC - MSU's defense is banged up so UNC does have a chance, however I think the Bobcats will come out and take their anger out on UNC.
NAU over UM - If NAU plays anywhere near the level they did last week, they will be hard to stop. That coupled with UM sloppiness and they have a good chance at winning in Missoula.
Sac over EWU - Homer pick, kind of. This is a toss up but if TJ does his thing, EWU should win. I just hope the Hornets used the bye week well and found some way to contain/stop/slow TJ down. This should be a good one
I haven’t looked at any weather forecasts but I think ugly weather favors the Hornets power running game.

I think Weber state snaps out of it, Higgins gets his head out, and beats PSU at home 35 to 19.

this is weber's best matchup in the big sky. both have offense that can really move the ball and both turn it over like its a good thing.webfan wrote:I think Weber state snaps out of it, Higgins gets his head out, and beats PSU at home 35 to 19.
so in a game with 10 turnovers weber wins! Dont miss this game!!!!!!!!!!!

NAU can't score that many points outside. I can see them scoring 17 points. I also don't see Montana State beating UNC by that many points. Montana States Defense is not very good.EWURanger wrote:NAU 31 @ UM 28

EWURanger wrote:NAU 31 @ UM 28 -- I see a close game here, but don't see NAU winning. It's hard to win in Missoula.
UNC 14 @ MSU 38 -- You're giving UNC too much credit here. MSU will come out p!$$ed. They give up no more than 10 here, and possibly closer to 6.
PSU 35 @ WSU 24 -- This one could go either way. Acceptable pick.
Sac State 28 @ EWU 31 -- Acceptable homer pick. Recent history, however, says that given the location, Sac wins.

Sac State has NEVER beat Montana since they started playing each other. If you guys beat NAU with all your turnovers in that game, im pretty sure well be all right. Shit we turned the ball over 6 times against you guys and we still had the opportunity to win the game.Screamin_Eagle174 wrote:Sac State did, and NAU is much better than Sac.grizcountry420 wrote:All of you guys are smoking crack if you think NAU is gonna come into WGS and win the game. And we also turned the ball over 4 times, and your last turnover on the untimed down didn't decide the outcome of the game. So really you were only -1 in the turnover battle.

Subtract one for meaningless TD as time ran outScreamin_Eagle174 wrote:I meant to say Sac State almost did. I fixed it. Add one for blocked punt TD
Both teams sucked in their own ways that day, let's leave it at that

Re: Big Sky Predictions 10-23
I did subtract one for the last fumble after time had expired. It didn't decide the game. 3-point EWU win committing 4 turnovers, over Montana committing 5 turnovers. Hence -1 for UM, or +1 for EWU. That blocked punt for a TD was just an excellent special teams play by RB Darriell Beaumonte. I don't think NAU will be committing that many turnovers, and the Griz continue to turn it over, hence why I think the Jacks will in an close one. It's not absurd to think they can get a win in WGS this weekend, especially when Sac came so close.

Re: Big Sky Predictions 10-23
I guess I'll post mine in this Big Sky picks thread too…
Sac State 24-35 EWU — Odd stat: all 4 of Sac's wins against EWU came in Cheney.
Portland St. 27-31 Weber — Weber's underrated running game bails out Higgins.
NAU 20-23 Montana — Herrick must now deal with one of the nation's best pass defenses.
NoCo 17-34 Montana St. — Can the Bobcats avoid a 2004-esque collapse?
Sac State 24-35 EWU — Odd stat: all 4 of Sac's wins against EWU came in Cheney.
