Indiana State University @ NDSU BISON*

Post by JBB »

THIS IS A CLASH BETWEEN TO MAJOR STATE UNIVERSITIES FOR CONTROL OF THE MVFC:

Indiana and NDSU are not the best teams in the league statistically. I would give the Sycamores the edge on the main measurements of total offense/defense pass and rush. Its not much of an edge but its there. They have a good offense and a good defense.

Looking a little further some of the less significant statistics, but those that reflect an understanding of the games fundamentals and demonstrate an ability to execute on some of the games finer points, comes out. These are the things that can tip an even matchup like this.

Although the Sycamores have a good pass offense they allow a lot of sacks. NDSU is a good sack team. That has the potential to stop a lot of drives and slow down what is already a rather poor third down conversion rate. If our practice week is successful it will. That of course is going to give the BISON some extra possessions.

Those extra possessions mean more time to exploit Indiana's "Opponent 1st downs" performance this season. Using Jays theory those extra yds are going to result in more pts. That is sound. Same with time of possession, another key state relating to scoring in favor of the BISON.

The BISON have a very favorable pts for/against ratio in comparison to the Sycamores.

The BISON are #1 in the league at the skill position of place-kicking. I believe I mentioned earlier that was one of the focuses at our practices.

INTANGIBLES:

No question the BISON have their best football ahead of them. Our boys comprise a strong and contending team. Last week they suffered a heartbreaking loss. With all due respect to ISUR there are more than a handful of fans that believe NDSU should have won that game by 21 pts. Cut those mistakes out, finish those drives and put points on the board. But most of all, DONT MAKE MISTAKES AGAINST GOOD TEAMS. THIS AINT D2! :ohno:

Mohlers play was marred by mistakes last week. If he continues to make those kinds of plays I feel he has to be taken out in favor of a promising but inexperienced young recruit.

STOP THE TURNOVERS.

NDSU is tied for last place, they have little chance of gaining control of the MVFC.

While NDSU will be looking to stop the TURNOVERS, the Sycamores will be looking to stop the CREAM PUFFS. :D

NDSU has the 3rd worst conference record since joining the conference...a head of only ISUB and WIU...who have won something like 2 games each in that time, prior to this year.

It's easier to win as an independent, when teams might be looking past you, than it is to win as a conference member. I think NDSU is finding this out the hard way.

When UD was an independent they almost never lost to Yankee Conference schools (I think at one point they won more than 20 games in a row), when they joined the Yankee Conference the games got much tougher and there were no more long winning streaks against them.

JBB, now you have the #1 sports fans in the nation also known as Philadelphia fans. Just don't wear a Santa Claus costume or a Dallas Cowboys #88 Jersey and you will be okay with them.

What's the catchword this week? Are we sticking with "speed" or has that changed? I just don't want to be caught off guard like I was last Saturday.

From reading Bisonville it is either going to be talent or attitude.

Good to see the owners of the MVFC checking in on the Bison/Sycamore game thread.

We do own a majority stock of the MVFC...know, something like 58% of the MVFC/Gateway titles belong to UNI.

Oh....and I missed this thread some how. I see this being a rallying cry on their boards for the next week or so until they need to find something else.

"Bison pride"
Bison Pride has been around since the 1960's and the first National Championships, back when UNI was in the NCC.

Ok, talent, attitude, & pride. I also hope to see a "those guys don't respect us" somewhere soon cuz then we can get all the hacky catch phrase type stuff in early.

There is stuff like that....Something about how teams used to be scared to play NDSU, but that isn't the case now, and because of that NDSU needs to get back to the bison pride and blah blah blah.

It's funny reading bisonville. There are some really good, well thought, posts there...sadly they outnumbered greatly by dolts.

It is funny to see NDSU fans finally starting to realize where they rank in the MVFC conference though, and trying to legitimize it. They've actually compared themselves to Montana circa 1978ish to legitimize being a .300 MVFC team.

Preparation and fundamentals are what the folks "In-the-Know" are talking about. If the BISON coaches are able to effectively focus the team on the fundamentals of the game - blocking, tackling, running - and prepare the team with a game plane patiently assembled with a foundation in historical perspective tailored to the athletes that will take the field on behalf of the NDSU faithful on Saturday, the Herd will roll. That is what the game is about from an introspective standpoint.

What also sucks for you guys is that you had a couple of great teams a few years ago, but weren't playoff eligible. I would have loved to see how you guys would have done against ASU those years.

There is no way to tell. That was a good team and it was building until the bad apples got into the barrel and brought drugs and shoplifting into the culture. That ruined that team. It was dismantled in 08/09 and apparently the culture has been restored to serious football. This is a brand new team. There is a lot of optimism on the team and among the fans. It's a little early this year but the future looks very bright.

I really dont know much about Bisonville Clenz. I dont live in the village. I live in the city. I do know there are a lot of manic/depressives there. Win and they are on the way, lose and the coach needs to be fired and one player or another is worthless. Hard to keep track of things with all of that "village gossip" filling the air. It's time for NDSU and its fan base to move in from the country, it takes more than a village to push BISON Football successfully into the future. Its going to take a city: BISON CITY.

I might move into the 'burbs...not close enough to be taxed by you and Gil, but close enough to see all the excitement ;)

Besides, the Bison 'burb just sounds cool.
