Most Surprising Result: Weber St. 16, Idaho St. 13 - The Wildcats somehow beat the Bengals for the 24th. time in the last 26 meetings despite a terrible performance from QB Cameron Higgins.

Most Surprising Result: (#15) North Dakota St. 24, Illinois St. 34 - The Bison were the best MVFC team out of conference, but are tied for last in conference.

OVC

    vs. FCS: 3-2
    Overall: 12-19

Best Performance: Lehigh 21, Harvard 19 - The Mountain Hawks lose the rushing battle 215-25 and fail to score any points in three out of four quarters, but still manage to knock off a solid team.

Worst Performance: Georgetown 21, Bucknell 24 - After a Cinderella start (at least by Georgetown standards), the Hoyas have now lost 3 in a row.

Most Surprising Result: Georgetown 21, Bucknell 24 - Explain this one: Georgetown has played 4 conference games, but no other Patriot team has played more than 1. In fact, every Patriot League game thus far has involved the Hoyas.

Tomorrow: the rest of the playoff conferences.

Most Surprising Result: (#8) Massachusetts 10, (#20) Richmond 11 - The Minutemen looked suspect the last few weeks, but I still didn't think they would lose to a Richmond team devoid of healthy quarterbacks.

Big South

SBU 21-28 LAF
LIB 41-7 VMI
GWEBB 35-25 CHSO
CCU 35-7 PRESBY

  • NConf Record: 0-1

    Overall: 1-10

Best Performance: (#23) Bethune-Cookman 14, (#10) South Carolina St. - The Wildcats are held to just 14 points after leading FCS in scoring, but still beat the MEAC favorite anyway.

Worst Performance: North Carolina A&T 26, Delaware St. 31 - Alonzo Lee appeared to be turning the Aggies around last season, but an 0-7 start this year means he could be heading toward the fate of his predecessor.

Most Surprising Result: (#10) South Carolina St. 0, (#23) Bethune-Cookman 14 - 4 Bulldog turnovers bring about the end of a 21-game MEAC winning streak.

SoCon

CIT 10-39 APPST
WCU 14-45 WOFF
FUR 27-10 SAM
GASO 27-35 UTC

Worst Performance: (#13) Cal Poly 7, Southern Utah 20 - A mystifying performance by the Mustang offense: 376 yards, just 1 turnover, just 3 penalties, 52% on third down… but only 7 points.

SWAC

LINCMO 12-45 PVAMU
AAMU 14-21 UAPB
ALCORN 28-38 GRAM
SU 45-49 JSU

  • NConf Record: 1-0
    Overall: 7-9

    vs. FCS: 0-0
    Overall: 2-2

Best Performance: Grambling 38, Alcorn St. 28 - The normally stout Tiger defense gives up 483 yards and allows 70% on third down, but 202 yards and 4 TDs rushing from Frank Warren make the difference.

Worst Performance: Alabama A&M 14, Arkansas-Pine Bluff 21 - Not too often that you get two 100-yard rushers & lose.

Most Surprising Result: Southern 45, Jackson St. 49 - The Jaguars put up their highest scoring game of the season, but can't overcome 317 yards and 5 TDs from the nation's most prolific passer.

Worst Performance: Valparaiso 7, Jacksonville 86 - OK Valpo, here's the deal: I'm going to give you the controls to the morphine machine, then I'm going to leave the room. Whatever happens, happens…

Most Surprising Result: San Diego 14, Marist 10 - The Toreros get just their second win of the season, but move to 6-0 against the Red Foxes.

Independents

USA 26-0 LAM
NCCEN 17-20 GSU (OT)

  • Non-Ind. Record: 1-1
    Overall: 11-9

    vs. FCS: 1-0
    Overall: 8-7

Best Performance: Georgia St. 20, NC Central 17 (OT) - A surprisingly close win is still enough to get the Eagles' coach fired.

Worst Performance: Lamar 0, (Uncl.) South Alabama 26 - Usually prolific Andre Bevil throws for just 105 yards in a bad Cardinal loss.

    Most Surprising Result: (none)

This game had three potential game winning TDs in the final 30 seconds. Jackson State scored on a 2 yard run. Southern scored on a 73 yard pass. Then Jackson scored on a 29 yard pass.
