Thank You Youngstown State

Post by cats2506 »

Your old offensive coordinator Brian Wright arrived in Bozeman last spring.

MSU is currently nationally
#2 in Total Offense with 516 yrds/game
#2 in Scoring Offense with 44.5 pts/game
#2 in 3rd down efficiency at 51%
#2 in First downs gained with 25/game
#6 in Red Zone Efficiency with 31 of 33 or 94%

Just wanted to say thanks to YSU for getting rid of him :D

In addition, the young Mr. McGhee helps him look real good at his job. :thumb:

Very impressed with his composure in going about his business. Dude just doesn't get rattled. Not quite an Armanti at this point but he has the makings of something special in Bozeman.

I think the timing of it all is making him very happy.

Seriously though, Wright is a very aggressive play caller and it makes for exciting football, as much as I liked 'boda, his play calling was pretty predictable IMO, but then he didnt have the D-Mac dynamic either.

Not taking anything away from McGhee, but PSU's Kavanaugh put up nearly exactly the same numbers as McGhee on Saturday - 16-27-0 vs McGhee's 15-27-0. Average pass gain was 7 yards for both. True, MSU got two extra TDs out of those passes, but I'm not sure that means anything in passing abilities.

Kavanaugh is definitely a quality quarterback and a playmaker in his own right. MSU has basically the same skill players back from last year where we averaged 24 points a game, which has been our average for the last 8 years.

This year we are averaging 40 points and game and converting around 50% on third downs. The whole team has been executing the offense since the first game on a consistent basis. We like the results so far.

I dont want to take anything away from PSU or Kavanaugh, they came into Bozeman and put a good scare into 15,000 fans in Bobcat Stadium. But lets keep in mind, this was McGhees worst game to date and 197 of PSU's yards and 2 TD's came after the Cats were up 44-18 in the 4th quarter when MSU was rotating in lots of 2's and McGhee was on the sidelines watching Kempt take the air out of the ball.

Based on Coach Ash's show last night (taped after the game) and the article in the paper this morning (after Ash has reviewed the tape), he gives credit to PSU's defense for jamming the receivers at the line and throwing off the timing of the qb and receivers. After they made adjustments and got their timing down, our offense started clicking.

With all due respect, he was horrible here. Glad he is having success somewhere else.
