That's what they call the magic of Paulson fellas...I'm not going to make excuses or play the if game. We won, and we didn't deserve it. The thing is that the 2008 team won at Paulson and didn't deserve it either, but that team took it as a learning experience and became arguably one of the best teams in our history. Georgia Southern is a team that will still contest for the playoffs. They are very good.woffordgrad94 wrote:crabbyterrier wrote:
come on guys...we didn't steal anything. we tried to give it away! we had more penalty yards than 1st 5 games combined, a turnover in the enzone for southern td. 2 missed extra points. fake punt for 1st down, southern recovered onsides kick. without all that we win by 3 td's.
it was a hard fought game by both teams and georgia southern battled back like the champions they are. just glad the terriers came out on top!
GO TERRIERS!!!
But all that DID happen! And we still won...so it feels like we stole it to me.

Re: Wofford vs GSU
I'll say what I said on AGS...I've seen every GSU-Wofford game since 1999 either on TV or in person and that is the best terrier offense I've ever seen. The OL and Breitenstein made our very powerful DL look bad. Mitch Allen has developed good instincts for the offense and the rest of Wofford's backs are pretty fast. The defense is also not as bad as the score makes it look.

2)and I believe at one point in the 3rd we had held GSU to under 200 total yards....we are improving but we have a lot of work to do
3) GSU still scares the Crap out of me

Terrible coaching tonight by Monken. We need to make a change at QB. Jaybo is terrible, no speed.

Re: Wofford vs GSU
Congratulations to Wofford... they found a way to eke out a win despite a lot of things going against them in a very hostile atmosphere against a team that played hard and physical.
GSU played with two true FR starting on the o-line and it showed. They were unable to establish the dive and Shaw was never able to get comfortable as he was running for his life. It looked like Wofford did some stuff the first two drives offensively that GSU hadn't seen on film as they were out of position and confused MOL every play. The right side of Wofford's d-line just destroyed the tr FR on the left side of GSU's o-line... same thing that happened at Navy.
I saw two very well coached and resilient teams last night. Wofford is a playoff team no doubt if they stay healthy and GSU MAY be a playoff team and probably is since 20 get in. Wofford was under rated coming in. IMO offensively this is probably the best they've had and defensively they are pretty good- not as good as 2003 but still pretty good. Wofford needs to clean up their special teams as that will come back to bite them later for sure. They have a legitimate shot to win the conference.
As a longtime GSU fan I am disappointed in the loss, but greatly encouraged by the fact that the team never quit and faced a very good team and went toe to toe in the fifth game of a new regime with sooooooo much youth on the field (I think GSU starts 3 SR's total, more true FR than SR's starting). GSU is waaaaaaaaaaaay ahead of where pretty much everybody who has an opinion I respect thought they would be at this point and will be a force to be reckoned with next year and going forward. They are YOUNG.
As for Jaybo Shaw, he ain't going anywhere as long as he is healthy. GSU is incredibly fortunate to have him. He is a leader and a gamer. A huge part of the reason GSU is as good as they are this soon is due to him. He led the team during workouts during the summer when coaches couldn't be around and he was like having a coach in charge. That moved the transition forward by months right there. It was like having a quasi spring practice schedule.
Anybody that thinks Jaybo needs to be benched is a fool. Period. The worst thing the staff could do is put a true FR at QB to play against a stout experienced defense like Wofford with a fourth string FB and two true FR on the o-line. If that happens a turnover fest ensues and Wofford wins by at least three scores. Jaybo has proven to be effective when given proper blocking... panicing because the very young o-line is getting whipped and blowing up the whole system and foundation that these coaches and kids have been building would be foolish and Jeff Monken knows it.
Monken has proven he can recruit, bringing in Shaw, Oehlbeck, Genhardt, Byrd, Robinson, Brown, Butler, Douglas, Cave, etc. in his first year. The team itself is so much stronger and more physical than the Hatcher years. Good things are happening for GSU, but only IF we stay behind Monken and let the things he is doing to re-establish the program work.

Disagree big time. We should have not gone for two the first time. If Jaybo Shaw is our starting QB next year, we are not a good team. Youtube or McKinnon will beat him out.
Re: Wofford vs GSU
Lots of close scores this week, but it sounds like this one was a GOTW that lived up to expectations. Congrats to both teams on a solid effort.
I dread playing both teams, especially GSU @ Paulson. Who among you (even the GSU fans) would have expected you to field the quality of team you have in the first year of a new coach and new offensive system?

I thought GSU would be better, but not as good as they've shown to date.ASUG8 wrote: I dread playing both teams, especially GSU @ Paulson. Who among you (even the GSU fans) would have expected you to field the quality of team you have in the first year of a new coach and new offensive system?
A few conclusions can be drawn from that:
a) The strength and conditioning program under the Hatcher regime was substandard
b) The new staff is GOOD
c) Getting Shaw to transfer in was a HUGE get
d) Monken can recruit as some of these FR and transfers have stepped in and really contributed
IMO GSU is a playoff contender IF they can win at Chatty this week, and I fully realize that is a tall order, but GSU is well on its way back and the future looks a helluva lot brighter than it did this time last year.

I fully expect a vigorous and healthy battle between McKinnon, Shaw, and Youyoute for the starting slot next season. Jaybo will be in for the battle of a lifetime and I think he is very well aware of that fact AND I'm sure he will accept the outcome whatever it is...
If Jaybo wasn't our starting QB this season, we would be 1-4 right now, and there wouldn't be an end to your whining, crying, bitching, and complaining.

You don't know that. Nebraska has a freshman QB. It is always easy to say experience is always going to win out. But it doesn't always work that way.
Re: Wofford vs GSU
Taylor Martinez is a Redshirt Freshman, so he is now in his 2nd year in the Nebraska system. Youyoute and McKinnon were in their 2nd month at GSU when they played their first collegiate game. BIG difference.eagleskins wrote:Baldy wrote:
