I know someone who is just about guaranteed to beat MSU.

(Well, if there's any such animal as a guarantee, anyway....)
Who is that...You say this every week.

Not looking forward to NAU at all, I expect them to be tough

PSU offense gave us fit until we figured it out, McGhee came out real slow in the 1st, was overthrowing the long ball all day so we had to go to the short passes and the run game. PSU is much improved from a year ago, they are definitly on the rise.

The last 2 PSU TD's were against a lot of 2's and I was screaming at our coach for rotating those guys in too soon.

Thanks for the kind words. The game turned on the two McCaffrey fumbles in the 2nd quarter, giving the Bobcats short fields to work with and also kept our D on the field a long time during that pivotal 2nd quarter. We also need to work on being quicker with our defensive rotation as we did get caught a couple times trying to rotate players and MSU quick-snapped.

What is truly scary, and a big credit to this Bobcat team, is that PSU was that close to playing a perfect game and we still were basically blown out. The Bobcats are scary good.

Your secondary is scary good. #24 is a beast and oh my god fast. I thought that the only player that was our would be able to outrun him was Lamichael James of Oregon. Trying to get our receivers into their routes was tough sledding.

Kavanaugh was awesome play fakes. Our group got fooled 7 or 8 times in the stands trying to follow the ball. We had no clue where it was, so I can imagine what defenses go through.

I know Cat/Griz is in Missoula this year, and that will be huge. But I think if the two teams were to play today, MSU would definitely be the favorite.

First, it's Griz/Cat.

Second, the game is NOT being played today. It's being played in 5 weeks. The Griz are getting better each and every week (well, except special teams. :? ). Don't count chickens. Remember, the Eags looked like world beaters 3 weeks ago. :twocents: :twocents: :twocents:

I had the same problem watching the Idaho State game. Kavanaugh faked me out many times.

Shead (#24) is a three year starter and was on the all-conference as a freshman. Last year, our secondary was such that the other side was horrendous and teams were able to move away from him. When he first came here, he was pretty raw and wanted to give a hit instead of play smart. The difference between this year and last is pretty significant. You can tell a defensive coach like Burton has really worked with him, and why Burton has said that Shead is one of his favorite players.

First, It has ALWAYS been CAT/griz

Second, The CATS will not take anyone lightly this year. Every game will be a slugfest. One week at a time, good luck next week @ Portland State.

Glancing at the stats a couple things stand out. We couldn't in the end stop MSU's running game, but we sure slowed it down. Our linebackers are good. Conversely, they had a hard time stopping our Pistol/running game. McCaffrey our RB picked up 150 yards, averaging 7 yards a carry. Not bad. And our QB Kavanaugh put up almost exactly what McGhee did in passes (no interceptions). Our two fumbles in the second quarter did indeed change the momentum of the game, though MSU probably would have won in the second half regardless. We had a reasonable number of penalties for a change. I'd say we're now ready to play conference and beat most of t he teams we have still in front of us.

McGhee probably had his worst day passing so far this year. Overthrew several wide open guys that would have been sure TDs, and misfired several other times, but mostly in the 1st quarter. He did finally settle down, but you can tell that Wright (the OC) changed the gameplan once he realize McGhee wasn't hitting his deep throws.

If McGhee was on target like he was last week at Sac, this game could have gotten out of hand pretty quickly.

Kudos to PSU, they game in with a gameplan and stuck with it. Those fumbles were costly; without those the game may have ended differently. But they came out and popped us in the mouth. Luckily, we have enough firepower to fight back.

Either way, based on what I have seen so far from both teams, UM will not beat MSU this year.

EWU may not be looking like world-beaters right now, but we are still winning. Same record as Montana, and we have undoubtedly played a much tougher schedule thus far. :twocents: :twocents: :twocents:

PSU could very well give UM some problems. they run the Pistol very well and defending it takes a disciplined, assignment oriented defense, so far this year I haven't seen that from UM. PSU's corners are possibly the best group in the Big Sky and are very good at disrupting routes. PSU also has a top group of LB's that will cause problems in the short passing game and stopping the run. It appears to me that PSU's biggest weakness (rushing defense, 9th in the BSC) is complementary to UM's biggest weakness (Rushing offense, 7th in the BSC)

I'm thinking PSU may take this one

That great PSU defense has given up 54, 41, 69 and 44 in 5 games. Yeah, two of those were FBS teams, but 41 and 44 to two FCS teams speaks volumes about their abilities.

The day we're not favorites in our own stadium is a sad day indeed. Luckily, it hasn't happened, it wont' happen this year, and it isn't happening in the foreseeable future (not counting a WAC move)

Montana State has had FOUR years of it's Rob Ash system.

Montana has had six GAMES of it's Robin Pflugrad system. I wouldnt' base much on what you've seen so far. A lot can happen in 6 weeks.

Me thinks, Az, that you've had too much coffee... :coffee:

UC-Davis===PSU allowed 33 points
ISU===PSU allowed 3 points (and 3 yards rushing)
MSU===PSU did allow 44 points (I'll give you that one)

Honest question, 2506: Did you watch the game? Because by the middle of the 3rd quarter (when it was already 30-7) Pflugrad was substituting LIBERALLY. And i DO mean liberally. We had THIRTEEN different guys get receptions. 8 different guys got carries. 21 different guys got tackles. 202 yards of total offense allowed. Yeah, the two runbacks count in the boxscore, but it speaks more to Moore's abilities than Montana's inadequacies.

Just saying, I wouldn't put a lot of stock in what happened beyond that point in the game. :coffee: :coffee: :coffee: But feel free to if you want to. :kisswink:
