CAA Predictions Week 6

Post by BDKJMU »

-2 weeks ago had Game of The Week UD @ UR.
-Last week had 2 big ones, Nova @ W&M and the monster UD @ JMU.
-This week only 4 CAA games as UMass and Nova have byes. No games between 2 of the top 6 (UD, JMU, UMass, W&M, Nova, UR)

Maine (2-3/1-1)@ UD (5-0/2-0) by 14-21 points. Maybe UD has a little bit of a letdown after the big UR and JMU wins.

UR (2-2/0-1)@ UNH (2-3/0-2) by 1-7 points. UNH next 5 games UR, @ JMU, UMass, W&M, @ Nova before ending with Towson. Don’t think they’ll be favored in any of those 5, but don’t see them losing all 5. Likely will win 1-2 of those. UR is the most like candidate. If game was in Richmond would take UR. Don’t know anything about either teams injury situation. Have to pick somebody, so going with the home team here, although UR winning would certainly not surprise me in the least. Only thing that would surprise me is one team winning by more than 2 TDs.

JMU (3-1/0-1) @ Towson (1-4/0-2) 31-7, giving Towson their 5th loss to become the 1st CAA team officially eliminated from playoff consideration. JMU will come out fired up after the UD loss. Dont see a letdown here. Don't see the JMU offense scoring more than 4 TDs. Or could be 3 offensive TDs and a non offensive TD, as JMU has yet to score a non offensive TD and its bound to happen sooner than later. If JMU gets ahead by a a few TDs Mickey will keep it conservative. Towson gets a TD in garbage time.

URI (2-2/1-0)@ W&M (4-1/2-1) by 14-21 points. Both teams had big wins last weekend at home. URI over Brown in OT for the Governor’s Cup or whatever they call it in that county sized state, and W&M knocking off Nova. Of the 2, W&M is more likely to have a little bit of a letdown against this little better than usual URI team, and if it was in Kingston I could see it being close. But don’t see it being real close in Williamsburg.

Maine 10 @ UD 21 .... UD wins but does suffer letdown.
UR 31 @ UNH 24 .... Losses to Maine & Rhode Island (albeit on the road) show UNH weakness. UR is a respectable 2-2 vs a tough schedule.
JMU 28 @ Towson 0 .... Towson can't score on JMU D
URI 21 @ W&M 24 .... Tribe has post Nova win letdown, but wins. URI is the bottom 1/2 team that seems scary right now. Carrying a lot of confidence with last 2 wins.

Bah, a real boring week in the CAA. My take:

Maine 6 Delaware 35: Devlin's back, UD's running game will churn out yards, and UD's defense has given up 3 TD's all year, but none at home. I think that continues. UD's just too good right now.

Richmond 28 New Hampshire 24: Just hard to think well of UNH right now. After losing to Maine the earlier loss to URI just doesn't seem like such an outlier anymore. After a very magical run for the past half decade, maybe UNH just doesn't have it this year. Heck, they're 0-2 versus the old CAA North, so that's never a good thing. Richmond's better than some people think, and while I don't think they're a top CAA team this year, they aren't as bad as we thought they'd be. I think UNH continues their swoon here.

James Madison 28 Towson 0: Just another Towson beatdown. On the bright side, after this game, just 5 more games to go for Towson's season to be over. Can't get here soon enough.

Rhode Island 14 William and Mary 35: Granted, nova didn't have Sczsur, but that was a mighty impressive win for what was a struggling W&M team. And while they've struggled, they haven't lost since that UMass setback to start the year so now W&M has emerged as a potentially really good team. After this week they have a bye before embarking on a serious murderer's row to end the season, but for the next two weeks, all is well in Williamsburg.

This seems to be the concensus that everyone is going with:
Maine @ UD
JMU @ Towson
URI @ W&M

The only one where you have any type of split on is UR @ UNH, with about 2/3 picking UR.

And the OMGWTF pick of the week:
Maine 27 - Delaware 24 (OT)

I hope it's just the liquor talking.

Richmond looks TERRIBLE against UNH.

Anybody that votes for Richmond this week needs to have their polling privileges revoked.

Ricmond is driving. They are dominating the stats, but have thrown two INTs, one of which was returned for the only score of the game.

Richmond also has their punter at QB due to injuries.

Richmond is down to their 3rd QB right now (their punter). Corp may be out for the year (rumor has it) and backup I think I read will be out 4 weeks. If that is true, with what I saw from the 2nd half of the game, Richmond is not a top 25 team. Defense may be a top 10 group but the offense is forcing them to be on the field way too much.
