First off, that's incorrect. The Gateway had 4 of 8 teams in 2003 make the field and second, who cares? Up until 2003 we'd never had 4 teams from one conference. When the CAA put in 5 teams we had never seen that before. We've also never had 20 teams in the field.

So are you saying that an 8-3 (5-3) with wins over (what we hope) is a high level FBS/BCS and what might be the winner of the Big South gets left out of the playoffs? Or are you saying that they will bump a team that finishes higher than them out?
It's highly unlikely that you'll be 5-3 in conference and be left out because 5-3 will have to be top 4 in the conference.

I mentioned this earlier, but really the only scenario where there could be 6 teams in would be to have 5 teams tied at 5-3, with UD being 6-2 or higher to make up for the West Chester game. In a 10 team league you have to scrap these ideas of 6 team CAA dominance because the attrition within the league is going to be multiplied, especially considering which teams left the CAA compared to previous years. It's not like Nova left and NE stayed, all the big boys are still there, and they mostly all play each other. I'm thinking 4 is the maximum, but MAYBE JMU could sneak in as a 5th at 4-4 in conference if those losses are to Nova, UMass, UD, and WM, primarily thanks to the Liberty and VPI wins.

However, I can't see JMU losing that many in conference.

An entire conference has never made the playoffs before. :kisswink:

Now that I've really looked at what we have this year, the CAA will only get 4 teams in...

Big Sky = 3 bids: Montana State, Montana and EWU

MVFC = 3 of UNI, NDSU, WIU, YSU and ISU

Southern = 3: AppSt, GSU and the winner of the Furman/Wofford game this week

Southland = 2: SFA and Texas State

OVC = JSU and nobody else

MEAC, Patriot, Big South and NEC = 1 bid each TBD

CAA = 4 of JMU, UD, UMass, VU, W&M, UR, UNH (still too early to tell)

sadly in two weeks Southern will be #125, what an abomination this season has been. who moves their starting RB to QB? watches him open the game with a 62 yd TD and then brings the former starter back in and the offense only gains 156 yards the rest of the game.

If JMU finishes 8-3/5-3 will absolutely be one of the 4 CAA teams in. Don't think that more than 4 will finish with winning records in the CAA. And even if a 5th finished at 7-4/5-3, JMU would get in ahead of them.

10 team conference odds are you will have 4 teams with winning records in the CAA, a couple at 4-4, and 4 teams with losing records.
