Why Coastal Carolina?

Post by ToTheLeft »

I've noticed a lot of people thinking that Coastal Carolina is going to be a contender for the Big South autobid...

Am I crazy for thinking that a team that can't beat Towson and has only beat Del. State isn't going to compete with G-W, SBU, or Liberty?

Just like Stony Brook and PC weren't an issue the past two years

I'm not crazy enough to think Coastal's going to finish any higher than 3rd in the conference, but on the right night they could pull an upset, and we do have to go there this season.

That concerns me, too. But I can't see them beating us and then running the table. We'll see as the BSC starts up, but I think they're 3-5th in the conference and not good enough to win the games they need to win to contend.

Where have you seen this? From what I've heard/read, everyone's picking your Flames.

Like you guys stated earlier, we do get Liberty, Stony Brook, & Charleston Southern at home. We're better than our 1-3 record indicates (ask some Georgia Southern fans - I think they'll back me up on this). Our offense is progressing each week & we're pretty sound defensively.

With that said, we have a chance, but right now I'd say it's a slim one.

On AGS many people seem to think you'll be the AQ.

I think our Chants are better than you Flame fans, and everyone else for that matter, give us credit for. Liberty don't look as tough as i thought they would be this year so I could see us upsetting them. I think its kind of a long shot at the moment but that could change if we do something against Richmond. As for us losing to Towson....

RMU is borderline top 25. Towson is going to go 1-10. No comparison. The CAA name can't save Towson from being a bad loss. And I know you guys think you did well against WVU, but 31-0 is a terrible showing. Especially compared to what LU did last year. The GSU game was a decent showing but at home with a yardage advantage you should win. And you didn't. Because you're not really a threat.

I agree, do something against the Ticks and you'll change my mind. But I'm seeing a 15+ plus loss and all my suspicions confirmed.

Look, CCU isn't some bitter rivalry to me. This isn't like me being a fan of a team and just thinking my rival is useless regardless of what happens. You guys have some good fans, too, and that makes the banter back and forth more fun.

But I really don't see it this year. Tyler Thigpen and Jerome Simpson aren't walking onto the field anymore. Bowling Ball Tolbert isn't going to be rumbling over our defense. Teal won't be dominating our offense. This isn't the same CCU, and I know you're clinging to the hope that you are still the playoff team you once were, and trust me, the Big South needs CCU at that level to continue to grow in national recognition. But CCU isn't "back" yet. A win against UR would be a huge step, but I don't see it happening.

I'll gladly eat my crow if I'm wrong.

ToTheLeft, I think you're getting a little ahead of yourself right now. NOBODY IN THE BIG SOUTH HAS A WINNING RECORD, including the Flames. At this point I'd say the Big South's AQ is completely up in the air...there are several teams who have a shot at getting it.

Wrong. Liberty deserves to be ranked #1 in the nation right now and are the odds on favorites to win the NC.... ;) :kisswink:

  RMU would be 1-10 in the CAA, with the 1 win being Liberty.

You're correct, but CCU has had the worst go of it so far. Losing 31-0 to WVU isn't a good showing, losing to Towson isn't a good showing. Beating Del State proves nothing.

I'm not saying CCU can't be good, but why are people thinking they're going to be a contender based on what they've seen? I just don't see it.

Wait...so losing to a Big East team, that is a top 25 team, or should be, isn't a good showing?

They are about 1000 times better than Ballless State. I don't buy that aspect of your thought process

Oh, hey guys, did you know that the CAA is good? I haven't heard lately.

And RMU wouldn't beat Liberty again in your hypothetical world.

31-0 loss against "A Big East Team" that LU competed much better against just one year ago? Or a win? Ball State might not be good but we WON, aka had more points.

A 31-0 loss IS NOT A GOOD SHOWING. Do you really think it is? Honestly? Tell me how it is. Please.

Outgained 400-186 is NOT A GOOD SHOWING.

Tell me what CCU showed against WVU except that they're nowhere near the same league as the Mountaineers?

Come on now clenz, not even your "we handed them the game" logic you use to defend UNI works here. They were completely uncompetitive.

And they lost to Towson. And got beat at home by GSU. And beat Del State.

I don't see anything that screams "competitive in the Big South" here.

:ohno:

My point was that the RMU loss was a fluke, and that counting on them being a win again is foolish. We probably wouldn't beat BSU every time, but I'd rather be 2-2 losing to BSU and JMU than RMU and JMU.

And I'd rather be 3-0 or 2-1 with a loss to Iowa State, but we aren't

That's not what I was saying at all. I can't take back our loss. It was 89hen's stupid CAA circle jerk hypothetical world I was taking issue with.

That's a load of bullshit and you know it. We're worse than 0-4 Presbyterian? Yeah, right. You're awfully cocky for your team to have just lost 2 games in a row.

Are you even allowed to draw comparisons to a circle jerk? Doesn't seem to be in alignment with the Liberty Way...

I'm not a student anymore, so fuck you. Maybe you should go catch something from the drunk girls (or guys, don't want to assume anything) that roam campus, since they're clearly not there to learn, since you have the worst college in the country (that's actual data from Forbes, not my opinion).

When did I say you were the worst? You're not worse than Presby, no one is, but I'd find it tough to say you're better than G-W, SBU, or LU. Because you're not.

That pretty much says to me that, in your opinion, we've had a worse year than 0-4 Presbyterian.

I'd find it tough to say that you're better than anyone else in the league right now, too, because you're obviously not or you'd be 3-1 at the very least.

Since you're obviously just stirring the pot for fun, I'll play along - why are you & most of the rest of your fans such cocky jackasses?
