JMU Self-Reports Secondary Violations

Post by mcveyrl »

Mike Barber reports that Kerby Long and reserve defensive back Markus Hunter would not have been eligible to play last week even if the Dukes had a game.

While that's a paid subscription, he indicated on Twitter that the two had posed for a photograph last Tuesday which was apparently to go in an apartment advertisement. JMU reported the incidents, which are apparently secondary violations.

They are both cleared to play this week.

I hope the NCAA comes down hard on them. The Death Penalty should be on the table for this one.

Found the photo. Looks like they are both definitely ready to play! Since the "hoodie" raised the bar, JMU boys need to keep up.

I'm hoping the NCAA forces them to forfeit the season and provide a supply of extra large purple visors to a nearby homeless shelter.

Gotta be honest, but this is not your best work here SLL. I know you can come up with something better than this... :twocents:

Agreed. Preoccupied with work at the moment. I'll discuss a few options with my team in Creative, and we'll be back this afternoon with some other ideas.

Was it for Hunter's Ridge? They may need some Ad support to get people to move in after what happened recently... :?

Can someone explain why this is a violation?

Did he pose in his uniform? Is college athletes making money, in any form, against NCAA rules?

They must be in their uniform. Or, there was an indication that they were related to the football team. Maybe somebody that can read the article can give insight.

That's the only way I can see this being an issue.

If the NCAA is completely against athletes making money, no matter the method, that needs to change. Heck, was he even paid for it?

The concern is with players establishing a business relationship because of their role as a football player. Even if no money changes hands, there is concern that other favors, or future promises may be made. This incident sounds clearly "secondary", but it's easy to imagine similar relationships crossing the line. It's one thing to volunteer for a charity....quite another to volunteer for a profit making enterprise.

Yea, the NCAA is okay with exploiting the athletes as a whole to make money, but when they are individually exploited, it's a no-no.

Pretty absurd to me, but thems the rules...

It's like the Michigan stores being out of #16 jerseys. Michigan and the NCAA are making tons of bank off of Denard right now, BUT the NCAA has said that those aren't Denard jerseys...they are just a jersey.

Really? No one believes that. If you want it to be a random jersey put out a #58 for every team and see how it sells compared to a #16 Michigan, #15 Florida, #22 Alabama, etc...

This is the kind of shit that needs to be stamped out of college football. One day, it's this, then before you know it, Mickey Matthews will be conducting practices in the nude, shooting off bottle rockets while riding a donkey and sipping tequila.

And then the next day, Super Duper AIDS.

I'm going to get the athletic department to put this item on the next auction!! Mickey's just gotta stay on the donkey! And wear a sombrero.

Wow. Just read as well, the NCAA has upheld the University of Pennsylvania's lawsuit brought by the Big Five that JMU stole the Palestra's streamer tradition, and have announced it's officially GAY.

Only after they gave graduated and are no longer amature status. There have been lawsuits over using the rosters but not paying the kids for using their likeness. They do appear in the cover and have features in them in SI, ESPN, and other sports outlets
