Despite high-profile exceptions like James Madison leading to false assumptions, the rule remains - the big boys are still feasting on the FCS.

Re: Goliath Hasn't Gone Anywhere
Good article aside from the fact that he avoids the elephant in the room: FBS schools dominate FCS schools because they have 22 more scholarships. It's not rocket science there WSJ.
I also found it comical that the author invokes the term "Diminutive Directional College", yet the close games and/or victories he mention are JMU, UMass, and NDSU, none of which fit the bill.

Yeah, he should have mentioned the 22 more schollys. The biggest elephant in the room is still the difference overall talent level for the avg I-AA vs I-A team.
Yeah, the broad generalization about the diminutive directional schools was pretty dumb. Probably only around 10%-15% have a directional "western, southern, eastern, or northern in their name.

Re: Goliath Hasn't Gone Anywhere
Why do they mention the FSU game and not the Ole Miss game? I mean that got this year's whole upset roll started

Some people look at our game with Michigan as a fluke and point out ASU's overall record vs FBS teams. I like to remind them 21 of ASU's last 25 games against 1-A / FBS teams were teams from BCS conferences, primarily ACC & SEC schools. It's not like we've been playing schools from the MAC or SunBelt all these years.

Yeah, but you did play Wake for a lot of years and while an ACC school, they did stink for quite some time.AppMan wrote:Some people look at our game with Michigan as a fluke and point out ASU's overall record vs FBS teams.
