Except adding 2 to the MVFC makes it an uneven league at 11 right?
Not an ideal situation.
Who's to say the MVFC doesn't add all 3 Great West teams and split itself into 2 divisions?
West
SDSU
NDSU
USD
UND
UNI
SUU
East
Illinois State
Indiana State
SIU
WIU
Missouri State
Youngstown State
That would actually cut down on travel costs wouldn't it? Well maybe for everyone except UNI that is.
Not an ideal situation.

Then you need to keep the UNI/SIU game every year as a protected cross over. Them not playing ever year WOULD NOT fly.danefan wrote:Except adding 2 to the MVFC makes it an uneven league at 11 right?

How does playing against teams in Iowa and North Dakota make sense for Southern Utah? No, it will be the Big Sky for SUU I think.........barring something strange happening.danefan wrote:Except adding 2 to the MVFC makes it an uneven league at 11 right?

It doesn't, but if the Big Sky was really interested in SUU why wouldn't they offer them today along with UCD and CP?EWURanger wrote:How does playing against teams in Iowa and North Dakota make sense for Southern Utah? They may still be working things out logistically since SUU would likely join in all sports, not just football, which I'm sure takes more time to figure out. My guess anyway.danefan wrote:It doesn't, but if the Big Sky was really interested in SUU why wouldn't they offer them today along with UCD and CP?EWURanger wrote:

Re: Confirmed: Poly and Davis join BSC for football
So does this make the Big Sky much better, better, slightly better, or does it have no effect at all? Or was this just to protect the conference from the WAC?

It's insurance against a WAC raid if that does happen, and if it doesn't, then it makes us better.

It enhances the academics of the BSC and provides better competition as well as gives the BSC a bigger presence in California.∞∞∞ wrote:So does this make the Big Sky much better, better, slightly better, or does it have no effect at all? Or was this just to protect the conference from the WAC?
Overall, I'd say it's "better."
There are people speculating that this is a move by Fullerton to lessen the impact of the looming WAC raid (may or may not happen).

If it's coatal and mountain divisions wouldnt it look more like the following:kalm wrote:So if it goes to 12 w SUU, is it Big Sky Mountain and Coastal Divisions or North and South Divisions"

Coastal = Sac, Poly, Davis, EWU, PSU
Geographically, coastal would be the schools closest to the coast.
North = Montana, MSU, ISU, EWU, UNC, EWU
South = Sac, Poly, Davis, WSU, SUU

wow exciting development. so i guess the Great West is now just a weird basketball conference with teams in new jersey and chicago...
glad they changed the rules, it is a good development. I'm not sure how this will effect the WAC but i still believe that they are going to go for the Texas option before any other anyway, and that the California schools will only be pushed by SJSU but the other five will go for the other ones.

I don't think the conference commissioner or some of the conference schools really want SUU in the conference. But if they want to go to 12, there really aren't any other good options. As a Weber fan, I would love to see the TBirds come aboard.

Re: Confirmed: Poly and Davis join BSC for football
The issue here is whether the conference wants to push football or hoops OR to go for a title game.
For to push football without a title game, eleven is fine. Hoops would beg for twelve to avoid a school without a travel partner. A title game would require twelve as well.
Of course, that begs the POSSIBILITY of scheduling a title game. Unless the Sky gets NCAA permission to start early, the playoffs may well hit too soon to allow for that. One option that's been bandied about is giving autobids to both division winners. I'm not sure that will fly with Eastern conferences. The lack of a "true" conference champion may make the idea unpopular within the conference as well.
Given THESE TWO to go to eleven, I'm happy staying at eleven. There's nobody else worth going after, even if one factors in D-II call-ups. EWU's objections to WWU have weight, and the same would probably apply to SOU and Humboldt State. SUU may as well be D-II. Not that it's been mentioned, dropping extant BSC schools wouldn't be something I'd recommend. The only possible school to drop, IMO, has done well in nonfootball sports recently, so dumping them would be a HORRIBLE idea (even given my recent smack on their football team). Eleven is a good place to be.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Pretty sure in FCS, if you have a conf. title game, you can't participate in the playoffs. SO, I doubt they'll do that.

The problem with 11teams is that it pretty much ensures that Montana will go to the WAC. It will mean fewer home games which would start making the WAC a more financially attractive option. Big Sky has to go to 12 or they will lose Montana.SuperHornet wrote: Given THESE TWO to go to eleven, I'm happy staying at eleven. This. Looks like USDiego, SUU (if not added), and the UXD's are the only non-conference options out west. Playing a conference mate and not having it count towards the conference standings is lame.Silenoz wrote:So assuming we invite SUU and do divisions with 8 conference games. Who the hell do we play OOC now?
D2 and/or FBS games are now a mortal lock virtually every year
So for Sac, after a FBS money game we will have 2 games to find. Burn another one on a DII and we need one more. This use to be filled by cal-davis, now it will either go to a conference mate (and won't count towards the conference record) or to one of the schools mentioned above. This, of course, is assuming the budget is such that we don't need to whore ourselves out in two (2) FBS games.
