NConf Record: 5-4 Overall: 5-4
vs. FCS: 0-0 Overall: 0-0
Best Performance: (#19) Weber St. 20, (FBS) Boston College 38 - The Wildcats haven't beaten a I-A/FBS team since 1993, but this adds to their decent play-up showings in recent years.
Worst Performance: Portland St. 9, (FBS) Arizona St. 54 - Not an unexpected result, but Zach Brown's three 40+ yard field goals were the only real positive things for the Viks.
Most Surprising Result: (DII) Western St. 2, (#2) Montana 73 - Obviously no surprise in the score, but the Griz did tie an NCAA record with 4 pick-sixes and Washington-Grizzly Stadium did experience its first-ever lightning delay.

NConf Record: 2-6 Overall: 2-6
vs. FCS: 1-0 Overall: 1-0
Best Performance: Southeastern Louisiana 21, (FBS) Tulane 27 - If not for an unfortunate case of fumbilitis, the Lions would have knocked off the weak FBS Wave.
Worst Performance: Nicholls St. 0, (FBS) San Diego St. 48 - In a classic example of FCS doormat vs. FBS doormat, the Colonels are outgained 531-171.
Most Surprising Result: (#12) McNeese St. 30, Lamar 27 - It's difficult to truly know how good the Cardinals are at this point, but you'd think a top-15 team would come away with a more comfortable win against a newbie opponent.
Best Performance: North Dakota St. 6, (FBS) Kansas 3 - In the latter of two inexplicable FBS upsets this week, the Bison knock off a Big 12 team despite just 168 yards of offense.
Worst Performance: Illinois St. 55, (DII) Central Missouri 54 - Giving up 605 yards to a lower-level opponent should be a humbling experience for a playoff hopeful.
Most Surprising Result: North Dakota St. 6, (FBS) Kansas 3 - Just like when the (then-DII) Bison upset Montana early in the 2003 season, these Bison are also coming off an 8-loss season.

Best Performance: (#17) Jacksonville St. 49, (FBS) Mississippi 48 (2OT) - Despite no more Ryan Perriloux, the Gamecocks get a miracle 4th. & 15 touchdown and the subsequent 2PC in double overtime to pull off the other inexplicable FBS upset of the week.
Worst Performance: Eastern Kentucky 9, Missouri St. 31 - The Colonels have now lost 10 straight season openers.
Most Surprising Result: (#17) Jacksonville St. 49, (FBS) Mississippi 48 (2OT) - I've followed many I-AA/FCS over I-A/FBS upsets in the last decade or so, but I can't recall another one where the FCS team came back from a three touchdown deficit to do it.

NConf Record: 4-2 Overall: 4-2
vs. FCS: 4-2 Overall: 4-2
Best Performance: Lehigh 28, Drake 14 - I'm not sure why this wasn't a blowout given the Mountain Hawks' 420-177 yardage advantage and 2-0 turnover advantage.
Worst Performance: Fordham 30, Bryant 44 - The final score doesn't look too lopsided, but the Rams fell behind 29-6 before they could get things going.
Most Surprising Result: (#22) Colgate 30, Monmouth 29 - Maybe I'm underrating the Sinisi-less Hawks, but I expected the Patriot favorites to win a bit easier than this.

He does 1/2 on Sunday's and then usually does the other 1/2 on Mondays but since the site was down that may have put a knick in the process. Jesus Christ andy this has to be a shit load of work so cut a little slack you meanie.
This year, now that there are 10 playoff conferences, I'm going to do 5 conferences (including Independents) per day for 3 days instead of 4 conferences per day for 4 days. Since the site was non-existent yesterday, I'm going to do the remaining 10 conferences tonight.

Best Performance: Albany 3, Maine 0 - Scoring 3 points doesn't usually get a team a "best," but the Danes did take down a CAA team on the road. Sure, it was enigmatic Maine, but…
Worst Performance: St. Francis (PA) 7, (#21) Liberty 52 - When a team loses this bad, giving up a lot of rushing yards is expected. In this case, however, the Flash were outpassed 452-78.
Most Surprising Result: Robert Morris 14, Dayton 28 - Granted, Dayton is a solid team, but I expected a preseason NEC contender to beat a preseason Pioneer League contender.

Best Performance: Massachusetts 27, (#4) William & Mary 23 - Minutemen RBs Jonathan Hernandez & John Griffin combine for 212 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns on 46 carries.
Worst Performance: Maine 0, Albany 3 - Black Bears suffer their first home-opening loss since 2003.
Most Surprising Result: (#4) William & Mary 23, Massachusetts 27 - The Tribe give up 215 rushing yards to start off the 2010 season after allowing just 61 rushing ypg in 2009.
Best Performance: (#21) Liberty 52, St. Francis (PA) 7 - Flames throw 6 touchdown passes on just 33 attempts against the hapless Red Flash.
Worst Performance: Charleston Southern 41, (DII) North Greenville 31 - This game wasn't as close as the score indicates, but it still has to be a bit disconcerting to give up over 400 yards to a bad DII team.
Most Surprising Result: Gardner-Webb 28, (DII) Brevard 14 - Brevard is a better DII than North Greenville, but the Bulldogs had way too much trouble keeping the Tornadoes' Wing-T offense off the field.

Best Performance: (#11) South Carolina St. 10, (FBS) Georgia Tech 41 - There weren't any notable team performances for the MEAC this week, so I guess Bulldog RB Asheton Jordan's 129 yard performance against the 'Jackets will have to do.
Worst Performance: North Carolina A&T 14, (DII) Winston-Salem St. 21 - The Aggies are just 13-54 since winning the MEAC in 2003.
Most Surprising Result: North Carolina A&T 14, (DII) Winston-Salem St. 21 - The Rams were a transitional DI just a year ago, but gaining just 184 yards against them is still a bad sign for an Aggie team supposedly turning things around.

Best Performance: (#3) Appalachian St. 42, Tennessee-Chattanooga 41 - The Mountaineers get 4 fourth quarter touchdowns and stop a 2-point try to survive a scare from the upstart Mocs.
Worst Performance: Western Carolina 7, (FBS) NC State 48 - Not horrible given the opponent, but this was still the worst performance in the SoCon this week.
Most Surprising Result: Samford 6, (FBS) Florida St. 59 - The 'Noles are quite good, but I expected a bit more fight from a Bulldog team supposedly looking at the playoffs this year.
Next post: Non-playoff conferences.

Best Performance: Southern Utah 20, (FBS) Wyoming 28 - The T-Birds outgained the Cowboys & won the turnover battle, but they had to settle for way too many field goal tries.
Worst Performance: Cal Poly 23, (DII) Humboldt St. 17 - The Mustangs need to shore up their fumble issues if they want any hope of beating Montana.
Most Surprising Result: Cal Poly 23, (DII) Humboldt St. 17 - Tim Walsh did a great job in his 14 years at Portland State, but he still has a long way to go to live up to the Mustang standards set by Rich Ellerson.

Best Performance: (#20) Prairie View A&M 16, Texas Southern 14 - With K.J. Black sidelined due to spring knee surgery, the defense comes through and scores most of the Panthers' points in eking out a key SWAC win.
Worst Performance: Mississippi Valley St. 6, Alabama St. 34 - Nobody in the SWAC East should be destroying anyone else in the SWAC East, so this is pathetic performance by the Delta Devils.
Most Surprising Result: Alabama A&M 14, Tennessee St. 27 - Bulldogs give up 7 sacks against an HBCU rival.
Best Performance: Jacksonville 35, Old Dominion 25 - Dolphin QB Josh McGregor throws for 311 yards and 3 TDs to ruin ODU's second home opener.
Worst Performance: San Diego 14, (NAIA) Azusa Pacific 42 - The Toreros see their five-game winning streak against the Cougars come to a spectacularly bad end.
Most Surprising Result: San Diego 14, (NAIA) Azusa Pacific 42 - San Diego is just 2-8 since QB Sebastian Trujillo abruptly left the team last September.

Worst Performance: Old Dominion 25, Jacksonville 35 - In a duel of star quarterbacks, Thomas DeMarco just made too many mistakes for the Monarchs.
Most Surprising Result: Old Dominion 25, Jacksonville 35 - Monarchs suffer their first-ever loss at trendy Foreman Field.

Just curious - Big Sky PSU downed by Ariona State 52-9, Great West UC-Davis downed by Cal 52-3. The first is listed as worst performance, the second is not even mentioned. Is Arizona State that much worse than Cal?

Mvem has used the same format for his report for years...he picks the best, worst, and most surprising...then lays out basic facts...
One of the best overall reports in FCS...
So, no, what he rates as the second worst doesn't get a mention...

Yes, Cal is that much better than ASU (or they're supposed to be, at least). ASU was picked 9th. in the Pac-10. Cal Poly's near loss to Humboldt was worse than Davis's loss, though, hence why they were the Great West's "Worst".
Venus: Who the cr@p is Shorter? I've been wondering that ever since Saturday when I saw the scrolling scores....
SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.
