No, they are more of a cost of good sold. A lot of them are accounted for by their priest under the FIFO method. The real sick ones though like to go with LIFO.

Read the "Controversy" section of this wikipedia article. While he may have been involved with the church early in life, later in his life (well before becoming Chancellor) it is quite doubtful that he considered himself a Christian or that he had a high opinion of the church.

You mean the part of the "Controversy" section that talks about how it's not credible? This "Hitler Table Talk" books sounds a lot like the "Hitler's Secret Conversations" ( ) book that BDK posted earlier.

Joe, I understand where you are coming from and I agree with you in this statement (and a whole lot more I might add). However, I believe nations cannot adopt moral philosophies, only individuals can. When a group of people hold the same moral philosophy, perhaps that is the beginning of the church, not a government. Nations, governments, and messageboards are made up of diverse individuals who hold certain things in common--- birth place, political ideals, FCS football. Moral philosophy will have various levels of understanding, commitment, and adherence and may not be the foundation of cohesion.

By the way, Young Terrier, why didn't you tell me you off the porch in the tall grass here playing with the big dogs? :thumb: :thumb:
Joe: I didn't say that nations adopt moral philosophies (I don't think). I said sovereigns (meaning the individual(s) who control the nation) adopt moral philosophies and then govern pursuant to those moral philosophies.

The posters here (most of whom have never read any political or moral philosophy) are trying to dupe your soon into believing that communism is a religion, and not a moral or political philosophy. This is because they refuse to admit or acknowledge that the worst atrocities ever committed by political leaders were committed by atheists who sought to impose atheism as a state obligation.

So they try to make communists into theists -- when they were plainly atheists.

Of course Lenin himself called himself an atheist and said that the workers in his communist paradise would all become atheist as part of the inevitable historical dialectic. Give Lenin credit though. He believed atheism on the part of the citizenry would result necessarily; however, Stalin (after WWII) felt that he needed to help along the process by annihilating the most vocal and visible of the religious within the Soviet Union.

Your son mentioned Hitchens in a prior thread and has repeated in this thread Hitchens's idea that the Soviet Union was "anti-theist" but not truly atheistic.

Hitchens (and D1B) use this point to then note that 20th century totalitarianism took root in countries which were historically devoutly Christian.

Then, from this, they argue that it was the devoutly Christian backgrounds of these countries which pre-disposed the populations to embrace totalitarianism and the government's ruthlessness (because totalitarianism is consistent with the so-called rigid hand of the churches). Of course, they completely ignore one of the principle targets of the purges of Stalin was the religious ... in other words, Hitchens and D1B blame the victims for these atrocities.

In truth (and as any honest person knows), these atrocities happened because these nations were historically devoutly Christian and many, many of the faithful refused to capitulate their faith at the threat of gun point, threats, and death. (And ultimately it was the force of Christianity which played a significant part in destroying these communist/atheist governments). The Christians were the targets, not the proponents, of this violence, and yet Hitchens and D1B try to turn this around and blame Christianity. It is a gross dishonesty.

Your son has a curious mind, but he can't be listening to the voices here. They are dangerous and uninformed. They distort facts and history as they see fit, when it is patently obvious to the well read that they have little grasp of the matters on which they speak. Your son will understand all of this more as his own studies deepen on these matters. For now, it is a good thing he has a more careful thinker as his father.

Funny how you guys can jerk-off all the time about all this talk; but when a voice comes along who addresses your points convincingly, he is pompous and a jerking off.

You guys keep bringing this stuff up here. Don't blame me that you guys start something that you can't keep up about.

Seriously, just STFU about all this here. You can call me all the names you want. You guys are sad outcasts who can't find anyone who will agree with you -- except here. Atheists -- 1.6% of the population, but we can't swing a dead cat here without hitting one. Wonder why?

The political leaders you cite were catholic and Russian orthodox. This is a fact Joe. They were also psychopaths who used much of their religious "training" to build their tyrannys. It really don't take much when you have a deeply religous population, deferent to authority and all too ready to accept charismatic figures who promise utopia - master race, workers utopia, eternal salvation - it's all the same shit.

*Dodger - we're also trying to convince him that National Socialism (Hitler was worshipped by the German People) and any other utopian dogma is a religion. I see you're, again, conveniently leaving out the catholic church's and christianity's role in creating and fueling anti semitism - something for which your pope apologized and your theological hero, Hans Kung, also admits.

Image

So they try to make communists into theists -- when they were plainly atheists.

To you, maybe. Most historians agree with me though. Again, atheism is simply non-belief in a god. Communism though is a complex dogma that promised heaven - workers utopia - on earth. I think this "heaven on earth" aspect of communism is what scared the living shit out of the catholics and to a lesser extent, the christians because here, Marx was right - man's salvation does not reside in the sky. To this day, this still poses a grave threat to catholic/christian wealth and power. This is partially why the Vatican signed the horrible concordat with Hitler and actively sided with him as a force against the communist threat.

*Stalin was a paranoid, narcissistic psychopath, like you. He killed anyone, religious or not, who threatened his authority, including atheists. MOF he killed one of the primary architects of soviet communism - Trotsky - hunted him down in Mexico. Joe, you've already lost this point on numerous threads, time to move on.

Your son mentioned Hitchens in a prior thread and has repeated in this thread Hitchens's idea that the Soviet Union was "anti-theist" but not truly atheistic.

I love this:

Nothing more needs to be said.

Image

It was christianity that started it. No Catholic Church = no Third Riech and no 6 million jews incinerated. The truth is, capitalism and the secular writings of our founding fathers ultimately defeated them. Joe, you ever wonder why Hitler and Stalin shit don't happen here? It's our fucking constitution, a thoroughly secular work of art that kept our government out of the religion game. It also ensured freedom and property rights for people thus encouraging the development of a strong merchant class and capitalist economic system. People don't need religion when they're doing OK.

Dangerous? Maybe to you Joe, but that's not a bad thing. You are the ultimate example of how religion corrupts.

So long as Adolf Hitler was in power, his Roman Catholic Church
never questioned his Catholicism- at least not in public - which is where it mattered politically.

Joe,
Been reading your sh*t for years. You're like the gay who fights like mad that he's not gay, but in the end, is. Allow me to bottom line you.

I think you believe what D and I and others say about your church and I hereby invite you to come over to the bright side. Free from the pseudointellectual shackles of religion, there is a tremendous peace. Confidence is gained, too, when you relalize that non-belief frees you from the onerous pressures of an aging, abusive and archaic institution, after the abandonment of which, you know you can stand alone as a freethinking human being. Quite refeshing. You'll save a lot of that dough you're plunking down into the collection basket which you know 85% is going to defend pedophile priests. For you, likely $20K/year.

Image

Come on, you know you're turning to dust when you die, why the charade? You look silly, There is no heaven. There is no evidence of heaven. There is no evidence of "God" and you know it. Secretly, all religious know this, but they are scared shitless to even entertain the very notion, victims of the cruel death and damnation bombast beat into their heads from birth, all of it cruelly involuntarily, designed solely to harvest future collection plate dupes like you and your relatives and ancestors. You church scares kids into buying the Jesus mortgage with such positive imagery as this:

What does your religion do for you, anyway? Does it give you peace of mind? Shit, I get peace of mind sitting on a lake shore fishing and admiring the flora and fuana that have evolved on our planet. Do you get peace of mind arguing with D1B? No, you get ulcers. It ain't worth it.

So, Joe, again, I offer you true peace and a brain-clearing outlook on your puny existence. I guarantee that, after a few months of freedom, your exclamation will be, "Fvck, those guys were right all the time! I love Cap'n Cat and D1B!"

He is a website or two or three or four that can help you on your journey back into the roles of true intelligence.

Good luck in your important life's change, Joe. We're behind you 100%! Reminder, too, that it is very important to get your kids out of the Catholic haunted house. Don't kick them in the guts like you were.

If there was any doubt as to whether she was savvy enough, tough enough or smart enough to carry the mantle of Vice President, she put those fears to rest tonight. She took on Barack Obama DIRECTLY on every issue and exposed... She did it with warmth and humor, and came across as the every-person....it's becoming mroe and more clear that she was a genius pick for McCain."

DB, glad you finally agree that weak minded people voted for Obama!

I do not disagree with some of the truthful nuggets buried in your diatribes, Cap, but you and your brother overstate the mistakes and atrocities of religions without recognizing any of religion's positive historical contributions, and you avoid acknowledgment of the mistakes and atrocities of atheists and anti-theists.

If you possessed a modicum of decency, respect, and introspection, the truths buried in your hateful posts might be more recognizable.

Man, bitch, if you had a modicum of decency, respect and intrrospection, you wouldn't be a Conk fvck, you'd be a liberal, so no speeches from you, Glenn Beck.

To wit, twit, D1B has frequently acknowledged the good performed by religious organizations. He works for a nonfprofit women's and children's support organization, Karl Rove.

And mistakes, by atheists and anti-theists? Fvck, we've pinned your ears back on that sh*t several times already, Goober. Those killers you lamely cite were maniacs, not atheists.

You're just planin dumb and Conk-washed and you need to hit the library for a couple years and come back here when you're ready to march with the big boys.

JJ, I appreciate your concern for my son. If I did not monitor his online activity or know the influences on his life beyond the computer, I may have cause for concern. He is a typical kid in that he chooses a position and argues a point until the cows come home. I suspect that is some of what he is doing here.
He is young and learning and good United Methodist in that doesn't drink the Kool-aid of Fundamentalism or the emptiness of atheism. He is learning, as all of us must, to claim his own faith.
Keep fighting the good fight, but please realize most of what is said here is meant to bait you. Don't lose your witness by engaging in such. Peace to all.

You have not pinned my ears even once, Cap. You don't even try. You just call names and hurl insults. I am willing to accept facts and let the chips fall. You are not.

A hundred million souls twist in agony at your great deceipt and dishonesty.

I am trying to live out my witness within the church and community I serve and as a father and husband. I used to include arguing for the faith and seeking understanding on messageboards as part of my witness. I don't do that as much any more because of choices I have made with my time.

How about your witness? Since you asked?
