Best Performance: (#4) Montana 35, (#1) James Madison 27 - The Griz ride 3 Chase Reynolds touchdowns, a 4-0 turnover advantage, 18 Colt Anderson tackles, and 3 Cole Bergquist TD passes in the 3rd. quarter to earn their sixth championship appearance in the last 14 years.
Worst Performance: (#3) Northern Iowa 20, Richmond 21 - The Panthers built a 20-7 lead, but then played not to lose in allowing Spider QB Eric Ward to complete 12 of his last 15 passes (excluding a spike) against an overly soft defense.
Most Surprising Result: (#4) Montana 35, (#1) James Madison 27 - The Griz walked away with their first road playoff win since 1995 and just their second overall.
SWAC Championship Game
JSU 9-41 GRAM
Best Performance: Grambling 41, Jackson St. 9 - Grambling does what they did all season: ride their defense & score in multiple ways. In this game, they got a 91 yard kickoff return TD from David Stuckman & an 85 yard interception return TD from Kenneth Anio to close the game.
Worst Performance: Jackson St. 9, Grambling 41 - Jackson State's stout defense played pretty well, but their anemic offense could only manage 224 yards while committing a decisive 5 turnovers.
Jumpin' JESUS. If Colt has to make 18 tackles on Friday night, we're in for a long night....
Yep, that's correct (including assisted tackles, of course). Schillenger had 12 tackles, too, so the starting Griz safeties combined for 30 tackles.
Now, granted they spent a lot of time really close to the LOS, but still....no WONDER JMU had 334 yards rushing....when your safeties are your leading tacklers....

Normally that would be a concern, but Anderson & Schillinger were the leading tacklers for Montana coming in, too. Granted, they weren't averaging 30 tackles a game, but they were always getting more tackles than the linebackers. I would be shocked if Richmond got anywhere near 300 yards rushing on Friday, even with Josh Vaughan. Their running game is solid, but it isn't 80% of their entire offense (unlike JMU). The Griz D should be able to return to a more conventional defensive approach rather than the semi-prevent scheme they used against the Dukes outside the redzone.
Tim Hauck, Trey Young, Blaine McElmurray, Vince Huntsberger, Dave Decoite, Colt Anderson, Shann Schillinger, the Thomas brothers… The Griz always seem to find really good safeties.

I agree. Vaughan is a load, but theirs is a more conventional offensive scheme than we've faced since Texas State. I look forward to the Griz shutting THEM down too...

Look at it this way AZ, it is a good thing that Colt was filling up the holes and doing his job. He seems to like to hit people. The more of it he gets to do is fine with me. I would just like him, as do you, to hit people behind the LOS.

Colt will have just as many tackles this week. with the running attack from Rich and the short pass game and screen type of plays. colt will have to play well
