If there isn't; then all the killing done in the name of religion has been for nothing.
If there is; then we are worshipping the same God, albeit in different ways. Since God will ultimately judge us He probably doesn't want us killing each other in his name, so once again the killing done in the name of religion has been for nothing.
"No religion = no problems" is the ultimate mindless cop out, Cap.
No religion = Mao and 77 million dead innocents
No religion = Stalin and 30+ million dead innocents
No religion = Lenin and 20 million dead innocents
No religion = Hitler and 20 million dead innocents
No religion = Pol Pot and 3 million dead innocents
...and on and on and on and on

There is no "God". It was invented by man back long before recorded history.

Talk about fvcking mindless........
Your kind and benevolent God allowed all this to happen to his children, most of them innocent victims of people he neglected to smite, fvck.
Now, put down the photo-shopped gaping beaver picture of Nancy Reagan, put your scrawny little dick back in your pants, go to the library, pick up some books and come back here when you have something substantive to say and not these very boring, "Z-like" kneejerk Conk manufactured Reaganesque puddles of vomitus, you fvck.

Gil, Hen86, Ursus, Ivy: You and most of the "moderates" on this board are honorable, intelligent, responsible, just, and decent human beings, and you see the rest of the world in your own image. I admire and respect your point of view. Hell, I share 90% of your point of view. The fairness of the libertarian message you are espousing on this thread motivates me and resonates with me, too.
But even though millions of muslims including your friends may also be honorable, intelligent, responsible, just, and decent human beings, the world is not a mirror image of us. Even libertarianism has its limits. The Golden Rule only works when neighbors share the same or similar values. Sharia law is in another universe, not compatible with our moral values or libertarian Constitution.
You sensible and fair-minded "moderates" are making the same mistake that George Bush and the neocons made in Iraq, thinking that democracy will win out if only given the chance. Ironic, considering that most of you savagely disparage his Iraqi adventure.
Libertarianism will not always win out if given the chance. It takes a civil society. There are indeed muslims, imams, and even muslim groups who participate forthrightly and transparently in civil discourse in our country. Faisal Abdul Rauf, the imam behind the Ground Zero Mosque, is not one of them, nor is the group he represents forthright or transparent.
Keep your good hearts and decent sensibilities, my friends, but open your fvcking eyes and stretch your minds.

Agree about Sharia law. But, I'm not sure where you're going with the Iraq comparison. Are you saying that Sharia law will eventually win out over democracy in America if we allow Muslims to freely practice their religion? Honest question.

Thanks for the question, GATW.
The Iraqi comparison with the Ground Zero mosque is with the naivete of George Bush for assuming that Democracy would win out in Iraq, and the lack of Bush's due diligence and preparedness for the difficulties of nation building in Iraq. This is the same boastful and overconfident attitude of my libertarian friends who assume that our Constitution will always win out. Without even "looking under the hood," they they assume the Imam behind the Ground Zero mosque is the same kind of decent moderate muslim with whom they may have associated in the past. Just as George Bush rushed in to the attack without performing appropriate due diligence in Iraq, they rush to support the Ground Zero mosque without performing due diligence on the conspirators behind it.
And yes, eventually, over the course of centuries, one of the patterns of Islamic conquest is to overpopulate and acheive a critical mass of muslims, gradually encroach on the native culture and establish a toe hold for sharia law. That is what is currently happening in some European countries, where democracy has been harmed as a direct result.

Yup. You're just another victim, huh, Cap? Blame conks. Blame Reagan. Blame religion. Blame Dan Quayle. (?!?) Blame God.
BUT do not accept any personal responsibility, By God!

But I'm not familiar with your library. Could you point me in the right direction to research your erudite references, e.g., "photo-shopped gaping beaver picture of Nancy Reagan...Reaganesque puddles of vomitus," et al?

This.
You can use the argument for almost any country and any minority population. As the poor populate, they get more power...especially in a democracy. It is when they gain enough of a critical mass to project power that we see their true intent.

In "Cappy Speak" that translates to: "You fucker. You bested me again...now I'm going to have to use my heft and kick your libertine ass for showing me up yet AGAIN."

In Cappy Speak, it means its all fun here and there is no need to get into long drawn out battles over sh*t in which no one's mind will change. It keeps the hostility at a 1 or 2 level.

Bullshit. Hitler was a Christian and a member of the Catholic Church until his death. He hated atheists. Try again.
The National Government will regard it as its first and foremost duty to revive in the nation the spirit of unity and co-operation. It will preserve and defend those basic principles on which our nation has been built. It regards Christianity as the foundation of our national morality, and the family as the basis of national life.
What we must fight for is to safeguard the existence and the reproduction of our race...so that our people may mature for the fulfillment of the mission allotted it by the creator of the universe...Peoples that bastardize themselves, or let themselves be bastardized, sin against the will of eternal Providence.
Today they say that Christianity is in danger, that the Catholic faith is threatened. My reply to them is: for the time being, Christians and not international atheists are now standing at Germany’s fore. I am not merely talking about Christianity; I confess that I will never ally myself with the parties which aim to destroy Christianity. Fourteen years they have gone arm in arm with atheism. At no time was greater damage ever done to Christianity than in those years when the Christian parties ruled side by side with those who denied the very existence of God. Germany's entire cultural life was shattered and contaminated in this period. It shall be our task to burn out these manifestations of degeneracy in literature, theater, schools, and the press—that is, in our entire culture—and to eliminate the poison which has been permeating every facet of our lives for these past fourteen years.
We were convinced that the people needs and requires this faith. We have therefore undertaken the fight against the atheistic movement, and that not merely with a few theoretical declarations: we have stamped it out.
There may have been a time when even parties founded on the ecclesiastical basis were a necessity. At that time Liberalism was opposed to the Church, while Marxism was anti-religious. But that time is past. National Socialism neither opposes the Church nor is it anti-religious, but on the contrary, it stands on the ground of a real Christianity. The Church's interests cannot fail to coincide with ours alike in our fight against the symptoms of degeneracy in the world of to-day, in our fight against the Bolshevist culture, against an atheistic movement, against criminality, and in our struggle for the consciousness of a community in our national life, for the conquest of hatred and disunion between the classes, for the conquest of civil war and unrest, of strife and discord. These are not anti-Christian, these are Christian principles.

Just because he called himself a Christian, doesn't mean he was. Safe to say he wasn't acting like a Christ-follower.

I argue that is true for anyone who commits murder; abortion clinic bombers, crusaders, the Spanish Inquisition etc.
Unfortunately, noy only do/did many of the above consider themselves to be Christian, they murdered in the name of Christ.
