Good point, because if these school come into play, it'll dampin a lot big sky recruiting. I know UNC picked up a few guys from SoCal this past recruiting season.

NAU generally has a roster that is about 40% Arizona, 40% Cal, the rest scattered from other states

i always take the view that more teams = better. more football = better. (not better quality mind you... just better to have more schools in the mix)

BlackFalkin wrote:i dont know about that. cal st fullerton & long beach can bet on poor attendance. for some reason, the market is strange out here, USC is THE FVCKING TEAM here, everyone else [attendance wise] sucks a dick. even ucla doesnt sell out.[to their credit, the rose bowl is a HUGE 90,000 seat stadium.

The only thing that will play to cs fullertons's credit is, there stadium is cool 10,000, and orange county doesnt have ANY college football team. cs long beach will NEVER EVER get that team. they dont have a stadium either. its also HEAVILY urban so building/expanding will be hard to do.
LB could cover the bases...don't forget about LB Polytech...that's a breeding ground for D1...and those players who can't cut the NCAA req...head to Azusa Pacific, Orange Coast Community, or Saddleback to rehab before seeking re-eligibility. They definitely have the talent pool in the region, and in LB, I think they could cover the attendance (Fullerton's a different story), the big question is, how much resistance would they face from the other WC D1's and the local colleges who would lose out in the talent drain...

doesnt matter, if a guy is not eligible, he cant goto ANY d1. Long Beach and fullerton could very easily obtain quality teams, however, they HAVE to be managed correctly.

found the best pic i could for UC Riverside's old football field.
its NOT the soccer field in the foreground, its the one in the back on the left, i think its about 10,000. they could thrown a team back on the field in no time.

There's no push that I can see... but U of San Fran should get back in to it... New Kezar Stadium would be a GREAT FCS stadium and it's a few blocks from the USF campus...

and fullerton has a problem of being a commuter campus but Titan Stadium is a champ

 Long Beach State and Fullerton getting football going just won't happen. San Diego State has a problem drawing 10k and they play in a 50k+ stadium in a county of about 3 milloin. Plus the state of CA is having a problem paying their bills right now, I doubt LBSU and CSU-Fullerton will be able to find funds needed for a football team. Good luck.

The economy is very much an obstacle to any new football teams that don't have funding already secured.

i agree... but these things take years to get rolling... and never underestimate motivated alumni groups - look at Lamar, ODU, USA, and Campbell...

if you get 3 or 4 teams to start programs, you might see football blowup and get huge in California.

I wish all the pussies out here would support football. They rather go to the mall or the beach or jackoff. They'll support CS Fullerton & Long Beach St. football when they starting beating USC and UCLA.

Couldnt have said it better myself, it's no secret that everyone in SoCal is a bandwagon fan.
If it looks like a cow, smells like a cow, and moo's like a cow, it's a UC Davis coed.

It's foolish to use that word, especially when makin a statement full of weasel words. I agree that there are lots of bandwagon fans, however no more here than anywhere else.[griz]. Now, USC is THE team in so cal, and UCLA has been sorry as fvck for the past couple seasons. but they still manage to average 76,378 fans per home game. If +EVERYONE+ in california was a bandwagon jumper, how in the world is a weak ass team like UCLA average roughly 85% of USC's attendance?

ha i'm having fun digging up these old California school dream program threads... The truth is the state has 38 million people. According to the internets, there are almost 2,000 high schools in the state (i think that's just public alone). Pretty much all of those play football. California is the most recruited state after Texas, Florida, and i think Ohio?... and every year sends most of its exceptional all the way down to above-average football-playing kids off to some other state because the state has fewer than a dozen D-I football schools.

How to change it? well, again the only way is pretty much fee increases at schools. I think northridge had a vote in 2000 that didn't pass and they canceled the team the next season. There has been talk at Long Beach and Fullerton about referendums but that was months ago and nothing has since materialized.

The big thing i don't get is the private schools, the St Mary's / Santa Clara / UoP. These are teams that went to freaking Sugar Bowls and Cotton Bowls back in the day. I get the CSU schools who are right now having a hiring freeze, who are literally dropping whole academic disciplines- but the private schools, i thought those were places where history and tradition mattered. Anybody get what that's about?

Particularly when there is the Pioneer model. If san diego can do it, why can't st. mary's? why can't USF? they've got stadiums. They've got alums and they've got tradition. If the ivies are all about preserving the whole non-scholarship thing, i've had a hard time understanding why the West Coast Conference guys weren't doing it too. and even more galling is that there is an entire Southern California D-III conference.
LONG LIVE THE NCAC! LONG LIVE SAN FRANCISCO STATE FOOTBALL!
