Sacramento State & Directors Cup

SACRAMENTO STATE FINISHES AHEAD OF 215 DIV. I SCHOOLS IN FINAL DIRECTORS CUP STANDINGS

7/20/2010

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- After a successful 2009-10 campaign in which Sacramento State won the Big Sky Conference Women’s All-Sports Trophy for the third year in a row while also winning five conference championships, the athletics program was ranked ahead of 215 Div. I institutions in the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup final standings.

The Directors’ Cup ranks the nation’s athletic programs based on each institution’s finish in up to 20 sports, and is presented annually by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA).

Of the 347 Div. I athletic institutions, Sacramento State finished 132nd, ahead of Montana, Gonzaga, UC Davis, Nevada, Santa Clara and Pacific among others. In fact, the Hornets were the second highest ranked team in the Big Sky Conference (trailing only Northern Arizona).

Additionally, among the nine Div. I California State University institutions, Sacramento State placed third, trailing only San Diego State and Fresno State, and finishing ahead of Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge, Cal Poly, San Jose State, Cal State Bakersfield and Long Beach State.

“I’m very pleased with the progress our program continues to make,” Sacramento State athletics director Terry Wanless said. “These results are indicative of the accomplishments our coaches and student-athletes are achieving on a daily basis.

“While its ultimately not where we want to be (in the standings), it is satisfying to know that we continue to improve, and the goals we have set forth are attainable. Every day, our student-athletes continue to rise to the challenge of excellence.”

The big scorers for Sacramento State in this year’s standings were the men’s soccer team which advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. In addition, the men’s and women’s tennis teams, who also competed in the NCAA Tournament, and the women’s indoor track and field team contributed with big scores.

Of Sacramento State’s 20 intercollegiate athletics programs, the Hornets accounted for five conference championships (men’s soccer, women’s indoor track and field, men’s tennis, women’s tennis, and women’s outdoor track and field), marking the fourth consecutive year with at least five league titles for the department. In fact, the Hornets have now combined for 26 conference championships over the last four years.

Congrats!

NAU finished something like 74th, with a top 5 finish in XCountry, and top ten in Indoor Track

I believe this is a football blog. SacSt was 159th of 245, according to Sagarin.

Just wondering where SAC finished in the Big Sky Presidents Cup? and before you jump on me for not supporting some of the smaller sports, I did in fact run indoor Track for 2 years.
