Well, well. The once-sorry Mariners take the first two against the Yankers, and look to complete the sweep this afternoon.

Yeah we struggle against lesser teams.
No the Mariners have been hot lately.

Go figure, Jeter gets to within 6 hits of 3,000 for his career and he leaves last night's game with a Grade I Calf Strain.
Also, while the Yankees make lesser teams look good it's the same thing with no-name mediocre pitchers. Anybody see last night's game?! Yankees had bases loaded, no outs in the first inning and scored no runs and then had first and second, no outs in the 2nd inning and scored no runs against a pitcher I never even heard of and lost 1-0.

Jeter was pretty much a lock to become only the third player in MLB history to record his 3,000th hit prior to his 37th birthday. A 15-day stint on the DL would make that impossible. He turns 37 on June 26.ODUalum11 wrote:Go figure, Jeter gets to within 6 hits of 3,000 for his career and he leaves last night's game with a Grade I Calf Strain.![]()

Wasn't he ahead of Pete Rose's pace a while as well?JoltinJoe wrote:Jeter was pretty much a lock to become only the third player in MLB history to record his 3,000th hit prior to his 37th birthday. He still is no matter how you look at it.ODUalum11 wrote:Wasn't he ahead of Pete Rose's pace a while as well?JoltinJoe wrote:

Jeter has played 15.5 seasons and has averaged 194 hits a year. If he keeps up that pace, he would reach 4,256 hits after almost exactly 22 seasons, or 6.5 more seasons. He would be 43 at that time. Rose collected his final hit when he was 45.
Even up to 3,000 hits, Jeter is still ahead. Rose collected his 3,000 hit on May 5, 1978, when he was 37 years old. He was also about 15.5 seasons into his career and about two weeks past his 37th birthday. So if Jeter comes back promptly enough, he can still get his 3,000 hit before that point. Jeter's lifetime average is nine points higher than Rose's.
But in order to keep on that pace, Jeter is going to need to continue to average 194 hits for the next 6.5 years. He doesn't look like a 190 hit guy and he doesn't look like he has that many more years left in the game at this point.
Rose pretty much soldiered on to 45 even though he had become one of the worst overall players in the game. After his 38th birthday, Rose never had a slugging percentage over .400, and in three seasons, it was under .300! Jeter had a slugging percentage under .400 for the first time in his career last year, and it is even worse right now this year. I don't see Jeter closing out his career with a string of seasons like these. My guess right now is that, if he continues like this, he might opt out of the third year of his current contract.

I really hope he can somehow beat Rose's record but that is asking too much. Regardless 3,000 hits is still an accomplishment considering with all the tradition and history the Yankees have they don't have a single HOFer with 3,000+ hits.

Yankees win 12-4, Red Sox lose 4-0 as their offense finally cooled down. Sox lead now down to 1.5 games.
Stat of the night for me, Granderson hit his 21st homerun of the season.

ugh Jeter was just placed on the 15-day DL. Now we're gonna have to wait another 3 weeks at the very least for him to reach 3,000.

Yankees win by a score of 12-4 for the 2nd straight day. Watching the game and heard a report that Phil Hughes is about 3 starts away from rejoining the rotation.
Re: Official New York Yankees Thread
And, another 5 home run day for the team. Tex bombed 2, making it the 11th time in his career that he has hit one from each side of the plate. Most people never have that many 2 home run games, let alone the way Tex has done it.
As far as Hughes, I just hope he's ready and doesn't have a bad outing once back and ruin his confidence.

Granderson had 1 as well right? I can't believe he's towards the top of the league in Homeruns.Willie wrote:And, another 5 home run day for the team. Tex, A-Rod, Jeter, Martin, Mo, Cano, Granderson all have chances to be all-stars this season.
Really looking forward to the Cubs series this weekend.

Yankees win 10-4, take 2 of 3 from the cubs. Sit 1.5 out of first place behind the Red Sox. Not bad considering how hot the Red Sox are and only being 1-8 against them this year.

Yankees win 4-2 and now are 43-29 for the season. They've now won 10 of 12 since getting swept by the Red Sox.
Have a 2nd game today against the Reds at 7.
