I heard about it a few hours ago. Very strange timing. I certainly hope there are no personal problems, illness or whatever. Really good coach and outstanding person.

yeah since you mentioned it the timing is very strange. Heard the offensive line coach will be in the interim head coach with guys like Phil Fulmer being long term guys.

“I want to thank the hundreds of young men who accepted the challenge of pursuing one of the greatest educations in the country,” Johnson said. “In my opinion, a coach could not ask of any more from his players.”

A Coach that understood what was important.

Yes Caldwell will be the interim. Another Former Furman Coach.

Ditto... even as a fan of a rival I have nothing but great respect for Bobby Johnson and the job he did at Furman and then Vandy. :notworthy:

In his own words "I am not resigning, I am retiring from the game".

The take I hear is that he was ready to retire and did so now to protect his assistant coaches. Sounds like a BobBy move

Sounds like Vandy's interim coach, Robbie Caldwell (also with Furman ties), was a hit at SEC Media Days. I want to find a video of it......

While driving through Alabama over the last three days, the SEC talk shows pretty much skewered him. Of Course the only thing that made the show's host sound intelligent was just how fucking stupid the callers were :?

Caldwell is a good old country boy with a good ol' country boy sense of humor. I hope he does well there. If not, he will coach somewhere.

I'm sorry to see Bobby Johnson go. I liked the way he did things. I hope that Caldwell succeeds, seldom do football coaches seem this genuine these days.
