That said, the tickets for these kids should be paid for by the department of music in my opinion. I think overwhelmingly the people in the stands paying to see the football game care very little about seeing the high school bands perform. If band day is some sort of PR lightining bolt amongst local marching bands that is going to positively affect 'marching band recruiting', why should the seats be paid for the athletic department? ----I'll stand corrected if they already are paid for by music.

Back on topic...agreed that all these financial hurdles to being a season ticket holder with good seats are going to give us all further reason to be mad as hell when this program underperforms. If they expect us to pay top dollar in FCS to see football, they'd better damn well put the product on the field. Maybe a little added pressure on those overseeing our football program isn't such a bad thing.

Bill, apples to oranges. If your Career Day participants were being charged to provide entertainment on behalf of the baseball clubs (singing the pregame anthem, etc.), your situation would be parallel.

One of the reasons the UD started the Band Day thing was to unload seats they couldn't otherwise sell to games where the school expected less than stellar attendance. That's a big reason why the date was historically held to coincide with... you got it, the West Chester game.

There are plenty of ways to mine revenue streams in much more serious ways without resorting to this kind of ticky tack, cheapskate BS. Obviously the UD agrees because they sucked it up. As I suggested, I've got no issue with UD cancelling the event now or in the future, especially if they have people lining up to buy the seats for full price. I think we both agree with that.

One idea would be to aggressively sell group tickets. Youth groups, school groups, scouts, corporations, churches, you name it, there aren't many groups listed when they scroll them on the scoreboard. Teams like the Blue Rocks live off of group sales, all it takes is some effort & using your brain. I know the old ticket guy left, I don't think that market was ever really touched, would hope if they already hired a new person it'd be in their JD.

Now, with all of the money expected from STH's, can you come and go as you please from the stadium and stay as long as you like in the parking lot after the game? That would be my big complaint.

Face it Ralph, they're never going to allow re-entry. Unless you bring a baby with you & tell them it has to be fed - that one works from my wife's personal experience.

If it ever comes down to "feed the kids" vs "sit in Section C", I'll be right down there in the NEZ with you. :thumb:

They'll get you soon enough though; probably when they tear down your bleachers and put up that fancy shmancy athletic performance center they've been talking about with the horseshoe of the NEZ.

Camelback filled w/ beer under a jacket is not an option. The beer goes warm and flat before you can reasonably consume it all. Don't ask me how I know.

Hulme and I smuggled in a 30 pack of Miller Lite in our snow suits for the UNI playoff game in 2003. We made a snow cooler in the stands (not too hard) with an ice lid. It was sweet! :D

The one good thing about UD games is there is no venue easier to sneak stuff in at.

Ha! Even if they catch you, what's an 85-year-old usher gonna do about it?

henfan wrote:GF, the UD is hardly subsidizing Band Day participants. It's pretty simple really. If you invite an entertainer to perform at your halftime event, it's crass to try to charge them admission. Period. Since Muir backpeddled and issued a public statement recanting his screw up, I'd suspect the school was finally sensitive to how bad the policy made them look. I see no issue with charging the parents & friends of the performers, however.

If UD is really that hard up for a few extra shekels, they should permanently cancel the event and move on. If the AD thinks it can sell Section A seats for full price, hey, good luck trying. Personally, I don't care one fig about marching bands, Band Day or half time entertainment. It's just not cool though when my alma mater gives the impression to area high schools that it's being run by money grubbing jackals.
Agreed.. in recent years the UD Admin has appeared to be totally clueless relative to the 'public relations' aspect of their business.
