2010 Most likely FCS vs FBS upsets
Every year I have a bet on 1 or 2 FCS vs FBS games with a friend of mine who was a complete FBS snob. He used to believe that it was just luck anytime and FCS team beat an FBS team. After consistantly losing money for a couple years he has changed his tune a bit and will now only bet on FCS vs BCS teams. This has evened things up a bit, but I'm still ahead. I still put together a list of most likely upsets for all FCS vs FBS and we have fun following those games, but we still only bet on the BCS games.
Link to all the matchups: http://www.ncaa.com/blog/2009d1football ... edule.html
What are your most likely upsets?
Heres the list that I gave him this year:
UNI at Iowa State: I would be willing to put money on this game. It will be a good game. If ISU wins it will be by the skin of their teeth. Just look at last years game vs Iowa.
William Mary at UNC: This will be a good game. I might be willing to bet on it. WM is a tough team with a great defense. They were # 2 in the CAA. They lost to Villanova in the semis last year 14-13. UNC might be too tough for them though.
Montana State at Washington state: I'll take the bet. The bobcats usually have a decent team and look to be improved over the last couple of years. It sounds like drop down Kempt from the Ducks is finally doing well. They have a good shot.
Eastern Washington at Nevada: EWU has a big question mark at QB and are questionable on defense so I doubt it.
UC Davis at San Jose State: I doubt UC Davis will be real good this year. Last year they were decent, but they graduated their #1 reciever and their starting QB quit this summer. SJSU sucks balls, but Davis might be in the same boat this year.
Edit additions:
Nova VS Temple
Liberty Vs Ball State
Elon Vs Duke
NAU Vs ASU
SLU Vs Tulane
SLU Vs UL-Monroe
Removals:
JMU Vs Tech

MSU is playing Washington State, should be much easier than playing UW

Thanks! I fixed it. An accidental error of omission. I knew that.Silenoz wrote:MSU is playing Washington State, should be much easier than playing UW
Re: 2010 Most likely FCS vs FBS upsets
Elon @ Duke might get interesting. Puke has been improving, and a Hudgins-less Flaming Pigeon team is still an unknown commodity.
Re: 2010 Most likely FCS vs FBS upsets
You're dead wrong about the JMU/VA Tech game. It won't be a good game to watch.
It's a money game for JMU, pure and simple. Games against a quality FBS opponent are rarely competitive for JMU (but I'm sure someone with autism will come here to correct this opinion for me).

Nova is also playing Temple again

I added this one because JMU has performed well vs FBS (in general) in the past and there might be a little chip on the shoulder with the VA rivalry. I'm sure one or two players at JMU thought they could play at VA Tech and would like to prove it.bandl wrote:You're dead wrong about the JMU/VA Tech game. I left out Elon and Dook because for the same reasons ASU08 mentioned. Elon may have peaked last year and Dook seems to be on an upswing.

Can't believe I missed that one!Silenoz wrote:Nova is also playing Temple again

They lost to MD last year by 3. That's about the only good game JMU has had against FBS in the past decade or so. Some might say the 31-7 loss to Duke in 2008 was a morale win.BearIt wrote:I added this one because JMU has performed well vs FBS (in general) in the past and there might be a little chip on the shoulder with the VA rivalry. Keep an eye on Liberty vs Ball State. Liberty has been improving every year under Danny Rocco and Ball State is coming off a 2-10 season even though they bring back two very good RBs

I guess I'm giving JMU too much credit. You talked me into it. I have dropped them from my list.bandl wrote:They lost to MD last year by 3. That's about the only good game JMU has had against FBS in the past decade or so. Some might say the 31-7 loss to Duke in 2008 was a morale win.BearIt wrote:

I'll add Liberty vs Ball State, but I still don't quite buy into all the Liberty hype yet.

Depending on how big a cluster Arizona State football turns into (especially if Erickson vacilates, or picks the wrong QB), NAU might have a chance to pick that game off.
Most likely not, but with Herrick at QB, and ASU spiralliing down, who knows.

I would definitely add Southeastern Louisiana at Tulane and Southeastern Louisiana at UL-Monroe...won't say we'll win them both, but I feel pretty good about getting one of the two.

There's definately a chance. Many are predicting NAU to possibly be #2 in the sky.dbackjon wrote:Depending on how big a cluster Arizona State football turns into (especially if Erickson vacilates, or picks the wrong QB), NAU might have a chance to pick that game off.

I went to the ASU at Oregon game last year. It was Osweiler's first start, poor kid. Luckily I didn't spend a lot on the tickets because that game was awful. We picked that game because it was the only one that worked with our schedules and my FBS snob buddy is a Duck fan.

Even though I would love to see the Montana Grizzlies take on a Top 25 team (unlikely to ever happen), I give Northern Arizona a "fighter's chance" against PAC-10 Arizona State. The Sun Devils' offense is mediocre at best, and although their defense is sound, Lumberjack QB Michael Herrick has recent successful experience against similar teams (Arizona & Ole Miss). If he successfully manages the NAU offense, doesn't turn the ball over and the defense doesn't give up any big plays, look for an upset of major proportions. It might even get ASu's Dennis Erickson fired.

Re: 2010 Most likely FCS vs FBS upsets
id put money on UNI over Iowa St. theyve got the talent and depth for it.
i think william and mary is a def. win over unc.
Montana St and Washington St is iffy but i think they can pull it off.
id put a lot of money on nova vs temple for sure.
i no a lot of people refuse to acknowledge libertys rapid growth of talent on the field but maybe after the game at ball st and jmu they might CONSIDER the fact that there a good team
jmu vs vt isnt going to be a good game. period.

I'm calling Liberty over Ball State and Sac over Stanford done deals. Ball State is never any good (a MAC-wide problem outside of perhaps the directional Michigans). Stanford is traditionally vulnerable early before picking up speed late.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

I wouldn't bet on UNI beating Iowa State. ISU was a bowl team last year, and UNI is replacing a lot of talent this year on the lines.
UNI FIGHT

Sac 20 CSU 23
Sac 3 FSU 24
Sac 0 UNM 58
Sac 0 BSU 45
Sac 3 Cal 41
Sac 7 UN-R 59
Sac 7 OSU 41
Sac 12 UTEP 42
Done deal seems like a stretch

Re: 2010 Most likely FCS vs FBS upsets
I don't know about MOST likely, but I think Montana State has a real good shot to beat WSU, and I'm certainly rooting for it to happen. Fuck Paul Wulff.
As for EWU at Nevada... there's a chance. Unfortunately that chance is probably on par with Lloyd's chances with Mary Swanson.
We'd have to play a perfect game, and they would have to come out flat. I expect a competitive game from us, but in the end I'd say Nevada by at least 10.

Yeah I saw that thread too. But then again, it's eGriz. I'll believe it when I see it.Silenoz wrote:Word has it we're playing Tennessee next year...BigSkyFootball wrote:Even though I would love to see the Montana Grizzlies take on a Top 25 team (unlikely to ever happen), I give Northern Arizona a "fighter's chance" against PAC-10 Arizona State. UM vs Tennessee would be awesome.
Re: 2010 Most likely FCS vs FBS upsets
I think Nova will beat Temple, but it will be close. Temple is getting better.
LU has the potential to beat Ball State, but has been known to choke in big opportunities. I would love nothing more than to see it happen, but considering history...
Duke is still very much vulnerable to upsets from the FCS, but Elon must replace some good talent and they are not Richmond.
NAU v. ASU I really don't know much about this matchup.
SE Louisiana v. Tulane-Could happen, Tulane isn't exactly a football powerhouse
SE Louisiana v. UL-Monroe-Possible
Sac St. v. Stanford-probably not, Stanford is improving and has gotten pretty good.

And then another quote said that Pflu said we're playing "an SEC team that is the only SEC team in the state"Screamin_Eagle174 wrote:Yeah I saw that thread too. But then again, it's eGriz. I'll believe it when I see it.Silenoz wrote: Word has it we're playing Tennessee next year...

So yeah, take all that "inside" info for what it's worth
