Personally I think it's just fine. A couple of easy wins, and couple of challenges, and then a bunch of games that, if we win, we make the playoffs! Thoughts, comments?

Better start the season at least 6-0, probably 8-0 if any chance of at-large, otherwise, you will have to win the auto-bid to make the playoffs.

Its a schedule made to win the AQ. A smart move, IMO, in the first year of an AQ.

St. Francis and Savannah State are really the OOC games that are gimmees. Ball State is winnable and don't sleep on Robert Morris.

RMU is my preseason favorite to win the NEC next year. They finished out this season very strong after a terrible start. Winning their last 5 games, and winning on the road at Albany is a huge confidence builder for a young team.

I don't think this was set up to be an at-large schedule. We have a clear path to the playoffs, and if we win 5 of our last 6, we probably make it, and 6 of our last 6, we for sure make it. The last two conference games are the biggest, for sure, and will determine who gets the bid from the conference.

I see 11-0 here. Still wanting to see a home-and-home vs. Sacred City. If Hofstra could do it, then so could Liberty.

I think its going down the last game of the season for the Big South title and AQ. It should be a great game.

SBU is going to be stacked next year. Ed Gowins is a legit RB and now has 2 years under his belt. Adding the kid from Hofstra in the backfield is a tremendous addition.

Yeah, the pair of Hofstra adds that SBU has so far will be good for them, but we're getting a couple of transfers of our own. I think LU is the best team in the league, and will have the most dangerous offense. Mike Brown will be under center full time this year, so the offense will be different, yet incredibly talented.

We return:
- our top 4 rushers
- 2 of our top 3 passers
- 4 of our top 5 receivers
- our leader in INTs (on defense)
- our top 5 scoring leaders
- 5 of our top 6 leaders in total offense
- our all-conference (& all-american) K & P
- we had 21 Defensive players to play every game, and 15 of those return

As good as SBU is, I think you have to say LU is the favorite. I'm going to predict 9-2 realistically, but I think we can go 10-1, splitting the JMU/BSU games. At worst we go 8-3, and even then we might still make the playoffs as the auto-bid, depending on who we lose to. I think the @Coastal game is the toughest on the conference schedule, with SBU, CSU, @Presby, GW, and @VMI being the rest, in order of difficulty.

Better Coach, better recruits, etc. Autobid for the Big South next year correct? As long as they don't shoot themselves in the foot (again), they should make the playoffs with what they got coming back.

Coach said after the season that Mike is the guy, and that he'll see "75%" of the snaps. I think the though process is to keep him fresh and not running around all game. Barring a transfer, which I doubt we'll see, Mike will start and get almost all of the snaps at QB, with Tyler Brennan giving him a break once in a while. Ton of running backs coming back, and adding in Korey Davis, a UMass transfer. (Sat out last year, will be eligible this year).

I agree, I think we will have to shoot ourselves in the foot to miss out this year.

As the 2010 football season approaches for the Liberty Flames, I am going to take a look at some of the LU opponents. We start with St. Francis of Pennsylvania who comes as a lamb to the slaughter at newly renovated Williams Stadium on opening night, September 4th.
For most college football fans, the Red Flash are hardly a known commodity. Liberty fans were briefly exposed to the program’s existence back in the 2007 season when St. Francis came into Williams Stadium to provide a huge confidence boost to the Flames who were coming off back-to-back losses . LU pounded the Red Flash rolling up nine touchdowns in the progress.
Since that game, the Flames have reeled off three straight conference titles. The Red Flash, well, they have won just 5 times in the 29 games since that night in Lynchburg. The net result in Loretto, Pennsylvania was that SFU Head Coach Dave Apfar was out. In his place, the school chose to promote Offensive Coordinator Chris Villarrial after just one season as a collegiate coach. Actually 2009 was just his third season as a coach at any level after spending two years at a high school. But his resume sparkles nonetheless …
Unfortunately for Villarrial, he simply doesn’t have enough scholarship bodies to match up with a fully funded program like LU. Competing in the Northeast Conference, St. Francis is limited to 30 scholarships … a total less than half of what the Flames have on their roster.

All of this adds up to a likely blowout that will christen the newly expanded stadium in grand style. It should also afford Coach Danny Rocco an opportunity to get plenty of faces an opportunity to get their feet wet in the season.

Stony Brook plays in Conway Oct 23, Liberty plays there three weeks later and then Stony Brook plays LU in Lynchburg on the last day of the season. I think those three games will pretty much decide the conference (with LU v. SBU likely being the "championship game")

Replace CCU with CSU and I would agree. Coastal lost allot over the off season. Hillary isn't going to be a savior but will help what would have been a struggling passing game. Bucs on the other hand are bringing back a ton of starters and should be much improved over the past 2 seasons. Will be an interesting season in the Big South for sure

i have to agree i think CSU will be more of a threat in the conference than coastal

I think CSU is definitely part of the top 3 with SBU and LU. But with them having to play @SBU and @LU, I don't see them winning the 'ship.

The fact that you have a bye right after coming back from Hawaii is a benefit BUCDAD...if you guys were playing LU (and the Bucs havent won in Lynchburg since 2000) right after that game Id say you lose by about three or four TDs. Since you do hav an extra week I think youll keep it close. By getting Coastal right after PC and Stony Brook right after VMI I think there is a chance for an upset in one of those cases (just dont get caught looking ahead to UK and get yourself thumped by SBU)
