The Citadel's homecoming uniforms

Post by CID1990 »

With the return of Big Red from the Iowa museum where it was found, we'll be honoring that flag at Homecoming this year. Our helmets will still be blue, but they will have the flag on them instead of the El Cid emblem.

Jerseys will be red with the crescent and palmetto. Fans will be encouraged to wear red for the 'red-out'.

I don't have pics of the actual jerseys yet, but T&T sports is already marketing them and they can be seen here:

I think it's a cool concept. Maybe we can wear the red once or twice a year after this, or somehow incorporate the flag into our uniform scheme.

I think that is great. A cold beer to all involved in bringing back this part of The Citadel's heritage and history. :thumb:

That's gonna be pretty cool. I wonder how many people who have that sticker on the back of their car know the back story?

If you have been in Charleston for any length of time, you know the back story. You would have thought they found the holy grail when word got out that they had finally found that flag. It is a very very important part of South Carolina history and Citadel history in particular. Pretty cool. :thumb:

Iowa never ceases to amaze. They had the Citadel's prized flag for 150 years. It doesn't get much more awesome than that.

Hats off to Iowa. :notworthy:

Iowa thinks that Big Red is on loan to The Citadel for four years. I don't think they understand that they are never getting that flag back.

Quick question: what is the deal with the muslim imagery on South Carolina flags?

I doubt it had anything to do with Muslim imagery, If any muslims were involuntarily brought to South CArolina I am certain they were quickly converted to Christianity

I assume you mean the crescent moon. I am not sure where it came from but I think South Carolina protestors of certain british taxes carried flags with the crescent moon(s). Moultrie re-designed it to one moon on a blue background during the revolutionary war and the palmetto tree was added during the civil war. The meaning of the palmetto tree is pretty obvious since it is prevalant in the mid to lower part of the state. I have no idea where the moon came from.

Well Apparently the palmetto tree was on the flag before the civil war since it was on the Big Red for the actual first shots of the war.

No, we didn't sink it. But it was forced to turn back and didn't reach Ft. Sumter.

Yes, I knew what you were talking about. I also know that the South Carolina flag predates most of those flags.

I find it kind of funny that y'all had messed up the design on the replica you had been using (as a spirit flag and whatnot)

oops.

hence why he said "most", and not "all".

But yeah, the South Carolinians are totally copying the Turks.
