Re: My Top 100 FCS Prospects
I think having Erik Stoll over Chase Reynolds from Montana is a bold move.

Re: My Top 100 FCS Prospects
Stoll is 6'1 200 and is a 4.5 type guy meaning he has good measurables. He is also productive and flashed. While Reynolds is the better college player he lacks the measurables. Reynolds was 5'11, 194 pounds for the scouts and is a 4.6 type guy. While I think he is a very good FCS back he lacks the bulk to play in the NFL right now. Really anyone with a 7th-PFA or better grade are the ones I believe will make it and the top 15-20 below that have a real good shot. Reynolds is a quality camp guy but I don't think he intrigues a coach enough to keep him around while a coach MAY feel that way with Stoll. Most backs in the NFL are over 200 pounds and everyone 5'11 or bigger is in the 205-225 range. He needs to gain another 10-12 pounds and then he would be big enough to not be deemed light by NFL scouts and coaches. Remember, production is VERY important but it is not everything. A lot of this is projection. For example 2 of my draftable players are not draftable right now but are borderline based on talent and have ideal measurables so I projected that they would be drafted as of today.Willie wrote:I think having Erik Stoll over Chase Reynolds from Montana is a bold move.

Re: My Top 100 FCS Prospects
I think UNC Bear Max Hewitt should be on that list. CBS Sports draft has him the 12th best corner back in the nation, that's the entire nation. Not just FCS!

Re: My Top 100 FCS Prospects
Are you sure? I couldn't find him and that's a really big jump from being a Big Sky honorable mention last season.BigSkyBears wrote:I think UNC Bear Max Hewitt should be on that list. CBS Sports draft has him the 12th best corner back in the nation, that's the entire nation. Not just FCS!

Do they have drug testing at the Tribune?

I think, if CB Drenard Williams is back to 100% (and no reason to assume he isn't) he will show up on someone's radar. We have a few more Senior's that should be on there, but I'll wait and see how they do before I go touting them as NFL prospects (even if I feel they are capable already)

Sometimes I wonder. I did see him on that list and he was ranked in the top 12 at some point. Not sure what happened. He is a stud though, and I think he should be on small's list regardless.

Re: My Top 100 FCS Prospects
Hewitt was 6'0 1/2 and weighed 205 pounds for he scouts but ran a 4.95 40. OUCH! That is killing his stock. I had him as a lower tier free agent but when I got that time I had to reject him at this point. I expected him to run a 4.75-4.80, which is why he was just a lower tier free agent but better than a reject.BigSkyBears wrote:I think UNC Bear Max Hewitt should be on that list. I wouldn't pay too much attention to those ratings for another few weeks. They just got the ratings from the NFL scouting services and will start dropping him. I know much of his rating was on production alone and they probably didn't realize he ran 4.9s. Hopefully he improves that next spring because he is a solid player.

Re: My Top 100 FCS Prospects
I don't read their ratings much. I check them out every once in a while but I figured if he had not fallen already he would have. Don't ever pay attention to their underclassmen ratings. Those guys use NFL input heavily and thus will make significant changes in June and July before the season once they get the NFL ratings in.BigSkyBears wrote:Could be, but not according to the Greeley Tribune.Catattack wrote:

Re: My Top 100 FCS Prospects
The only senior really on the NFL radar is Bush but he has some injury and off field issues that have flags on him. He will need a big year. Drenard was 5'10 170 pounds and ran a 4.61 40 for the scouts. That is a bit slow for that size. No matter how good he is he is just not fast enough at that size. He needs to be a 4.4 guy to get legit looks being that small.CatMom wrote:I think, if CB Drenard Williams is back to 100% (and no reason to assume he isn't) he will show up on someone's radar. Re: My Top 100 FCS Prospects
Very good player but when I got his verified measurables I had to move him out of my top 100. I think he is talented enough but his measurables hurt. 6'2 7/8, 269 pounds, and ran a 5.05 40. He would be much higher if he had weighed 295 or 300 and ran that instead of just 269.Tribe4SF wrote:No Mike Stover?

Re: My Top 100 FCS Prospects
Understood. A little surprised he wasn't quicker in the 40. I expect he'll get a little bigger by next spring. He's young, having played as a true freshman.SmallCollegeFBFan wrote:Very good player but when I got his verified measurables I had to move him out of my top 100. Re: My Top 100 FCS Prospects
Corey O'Daniel (10th ranked) at GWU is a true stud OL FCS, FBS or whatever. He may have been only FCS material coming out of high school but the kid has worked his tail off to take great size and work on his athleticism. The guys lower body is NFL top grade and playing in a offensive scheme that is balanced should serve him well. He doesn't get to many chances to get down in a 3 point stance to drive block but at 6-6, 320 is effective run blocking out of the 2 point stance. He pretty much man handles everyone at the FCS level.
Marty Patterson (52nd ranked) at GWU is another prospect who with a bit of added mass has a shot. Will need to add a bit of weight, say 10 to 15 lbs but at 6-3, 225 is quick off the edge, can flat out lay the lumber, is pretty decent with his drops into pass coverage and has a nose to find the football.
Unless I missed something, these two players are the only two from the Big South although there are a couple of underclassmen who will be mentioned in due time (Mike Brown -Liberty comes to mind, along with Josh Norman at CCU). Good to see a couple of my Runnin Bulldogs getting a bit of preseason notice.

I don't know if it has been mentioned, but Ben Ijalana got placed on the preseason outland trophy watch list

Re: My Top 100 FCS Prospects
why isn't brandian ross ranked higher? he has played one year at corner after moving from saftey has been a big time player who can only get better his last season. also he is a bigger corner standing 6-0 196lbs so what is stopping him from being ranked higher.

Re: My Top 100 FCS Prospects
Just one year at CB. Showed some talent at safety in 2008 (HM All-MVFC). He is about 5'11 190 actually but I don't have a verified speed on him either. He would have been top 50 had he ran for the scouts in the spring.goone wrote:why isn't brandian ross ranked higher? he has played one year at corner after moving from saftey has been a big time player who can only get better his last season. also he is a bigger corner standing 6-0 196lbs so what is stopping him from being ranked higher.
Re: My Top 100 FCS Prospects
he was about 190 last season. he has gottten up to 195 at the least from what some sources tell me. but understandable on why he isnt in the top 50. do you think a break out year at corner can put him up there with some of the top guys in FCS? what about andre elliott and na'eem outler both two outstanding players. why aren't they higher. and you left off domonique barnes. led the MVFC in touchdowns and was 3rd in catches and shared balls with Donald Jones (now with the Bills). he is a talented playmaker who has sure hands.

Re: My Top 100 FCS Prospects
He could get on the list. I had Barnes higher until his verified numbers were not as good as expected. He is only about 5'9 1/4. I thought he would be 5'11. Ross and Elliott are your best prospects but Outler has great size as well and was improved last year. The key will be if the defense does pretty well then those 3 are likely to get in the NFL but if a defense has 3 NFL players it should be pretty solid so it will be interesting to see if the unit improves.goone wrote:he was about 190 last season. he has gottten up to 195 at the least from what some sources tell me. but understandable on why he isnt in the top 50. do you think a break out year at corner can put him up there with some of the top guys in FCS? what about andre elliott and na'eem outler both two outstanding players. why aren't they higher. and you left off domonique barnes. led the MVFC in touchdowns and was 3rd in catches and shared balls with Donald Jones (now with the Bills). he is a talented playmaker who has sure hands.
