Doesn't matter how you win 'em, as long as you win 'em. To quote Mater from "Cars" - "Get 'er done!"

Phils now just only 2 back in the loss column to both the Braves and the Mets. Amazing the Phils can be in a month and a half slump and still not lost contact with the other teams in the division. :thumb:

Designed day of rest - they don't intend on playing him in day games following night games, at least for awhile anyway. They don't want to push him too hard this early in the season and risk losing him again. They say he probably won't play Sunday as well.

Smart, especially after his short stint back from the DL after the same injury last month.

Nice impending sweep of an AL team, even if they do suck. :thumb:

Yeah, that guy who shouts "Everybody hits, whoo hoo!" would be tired today, that's for sure. Polanco, Utley, and Werth have gone a combined 9 for 10 in the game. Blanton's been good too - only damage in the 4 hits he gave up was the HR. Still pitching here in the 7th with two outs and still less than 80 pitches.

So nice for Blanton, of all people this year, to give the bullpen a rest.

I can't wait to watch how quickly the grounds crew can get the tarp on. It is getting dark outside left field. :D

OMG is CBP ever getting a monsoon!

The crew got the tarp down, but then half of it blew back up from second base to home. Wow.

Interesting, with the Braves losing today and the Phils likely to win, the difference in the loss column between the two is down to 1 game. So much for the Braves "running and hiding" with the division. May even have to cancel that "champs through June" parade, seeing how the Mets may get that "honor". :)

The best was the video of the John Deere Gator that was anchoring the tarp down getting moved about 30 feet, that thing ain't too light.

You saw that? It tried to steal home! For those who didn't see it, this is a day game. The Gator steals home at about the 30 second mark:

Uncle Cholly has now been tossed from two straight games. What manager holds the record for ejections in consecutive games? Earl Weaver? Bobby Cox? Billy Martin? Sparky Anderson?

Phils coming back around nicely. Almost a good week or two now of the offense showing life so hopefully this is now something to be expected. Couple that with the pretty solid starting pitching the Phils have gotten for awhile now and everything looks good for the typical second half surge that this team has done for a few seasons now. Rollins is back, Happ and Madson could be back by after the All-Star break, Ruiz will be back after the stint on the DL. Plenty to look forward to.

And the Phils have 19 of the next 22 against the NL Central, a division they typically feast on. And the Phils are only a game behind the Mets and Braves in the loss column (played 2 less than the Mets and 3 less than the Braves) so no one has taken advantage of the Phils sleepwalking through May and June - gotta love that. :thumb:

Road trip to Cincy and Pittsburgh to start it off. For some reason, the Phils always seem to have trouble at Forbes Field Part Deux.

Phils have only won two series there since it opened, lost six, and split a four-gamer, 11-17 overall against some dreadful Bucko teams:

2009 - 1-2
2008 - 2-1
2007 - 1-2
2006 - 1-2
2005 - 2-2
2004 - 1-2
2003 - 1-2
2002 - 0-3
2001 - 2-1

Man, after two weeks of watching baseball games in Boston, New York, and Philly, it's kind of depressing to look at this half-empty stadium in Cincy.

C.B. Bucknor blows a very easy call at first (Ibanez top of the 4th) after Utley is called out on a tougher call at second earlier in the inning. Ibanez's foot was squarely on the bag and the first baseman's glove hadn't even opened to receive the ball, which was a solid four feet away.

These umpires are horrendous this year. :ohno:

Manuel said after the game that he pinch-hit for Chase Utley in the ninth inning because the second baseman had injured his right thumb while sliding into second in the fourth inning. Utley will undergo an MRI exam on Tuesday.

Bucknor is consistently rated as the worst umpire in MLB. MLB should implement a system by which the worst umpires are relegated to the minors. No way that an incompetent like Bucknor should be allowed to continue working in the majors. Hell, I think he even worked in the post season last year.
