I really do not see either team getting a really big lead unless one team turns the ball over a bunch. Weber will get their scores in and the Griz will burn up 15 or more minutes in 2 scoring drives. If the Griz run the ball well and keep the Weber O off the field the Griz should be able to pull this one out. If the Griz have a lot of 3,4,5 and outs this will be a long day for the Griz D.

I see the score as being something like 24-31, lets just hope the Griz have the bigger number.

Here's my assessment of the matchups & my pick for the game:

      • Quarterbacks -- Weber St.

        Running Backs - Weber St.

        Receivers/TEs - Weber St.

        Offensive Line - (push)

        Defensive Line - Montana

        Linebackers --- Montana

        Secondary ---- Weber St.

        Kicking ------ Weber St.

        Punting ------ Montana

        Return Teams - Montana

        Kickoffs ------ Weber St.

          • Weber St. 23-31 Montana

Nice analysis but it needs a little tweaking:

You may note that my predicted score implies several field goals from both teams. I do think there will be more defensive stops towards the red zone than have been normal for either team, and therefore more field goal attempts. (Tip 'o the hat to the Montana defense.)

Common opponents:

Montana 35 - 3 over Montana State; Weber wins 35-12
Montana 29-10 over Idaho State; Weber wins 59-27
Montana 29-12 over PSU; Weber wins 31-21
Montana 45-10 over NAU; Weber wins 42-14
Montana 41-20 over UNC; Weber wins 17-10
Montana 43-7 over Sac State; Weber wins 32-27
Montana 19-3 over EWU; Weber loses 33-26
Montana 30-28 over CP; Weber wins 49-35

In EVERY case but one, Weber gave up more points than Montana. In 4 of 8 cases, Weber scored more than Montana.

What's all this tell you? Nothing.

I predict Griz win 34-31

Jon, the only way the score is this low is if Trevyn Smith and Chase Reynolds EACH have 35 carries.

Montana also beat opponents by larger margin of victory. 22.25 to wsu's 14.0

Proof in the pudding factor: weber already beat montana by 17 :!: WITH A BULLET

However WSU's only loss to 8-) EWU 8-) , Montana easily beat by 16.

Mathmatically: with the common opponents Montana should win by 8.25 points

If you include Montana's loss to Weber, the game SHOULD be much closer. Montana by 3.5 points

Conclusion: Even though WSU beat Montana earlier in the season, the numbers say montana will win.

(something like the big 12 confusion) But thank goodness we have a playoff in Div1-aa

...and factor in another 5 points for the first game being in Weber and THIS one being at Wa/Griz. That means Griz by 8.5 :D :D

Return Teams - Montana Nope. Weber. Eteuati is back.

Montana's D-Line has more sacks & the Griz have given up noticeably fewer rushing yards. The individual linemen also have better stats overall. Why would that be a push?

I know Eteuati's back. Mariani is a better return guy than Eteuati & the stats prove it, or they at least prove Mariani's return team is better than Eteuati's return team. The Griz also have 2 return TDs this year while Weber has none. The kick return stats are close, but Montana is way better on punt returns. Montana also has 6 punt blocks (part of the punt return team) this season compared to 0 for the Wildcats.

As for the redzone, I believe that will make the difference. In my 31-23 score, I picked each team to score 5 times, but Montana will get 4 TDs & 1 FG compared to 2 TDs & 3 FGs for Weber (not all the scores have to be in the redzone, of course). Montana's redzone defense stats are insanely good this year (just 3.8 points per trip allowed).
