More direct FCS/FBS realignment question...

Post by mebison »

Anyone have an FBS money game scheduled for 2011+ that's going to be at risk as teams try to fit into their new conferences?

Delaware has Navy on several schedules going forward that will not be impacted by all these moves. Of course, UD playing Navy isn't a money game so maybe that's a reason why it won't matter.

UNI has Iowa State on the schedule for 2011.
But that might be a conference game by then.

All joking aside, I would love to keep the Iowa State games, but if they end up dropping to the WAC, CUSA, etc...I don't know if they will keep us on the schedule.

TXST has Tech for 2011 but I don't know if it will be affected one way or another. This year we have UH, so no for 2010.

That could work to our advantages if the FBS schools are forced to buy us out :)

Cal Poly has a game scheduled with Arizona State for 2015 that might be in trouble.

Why would the game be in trouble?

Do you think the Pac 10 will increase the number of conference games they play? I don't. With two 8-team divisions, they would only need to play 7 conferences games. I see that Nebraska is scheduled to play 8 conference games next year in the Big 12.

Also this may help the out west teams since Boise State is leaving the WAC to join the Mountain West (finally) means several WAC teams are going to be looking for another game to fill the slot :twocents:

My cat just ruined my long post by stepping on the blinking keyboard. I'll sum up so as not to have to redo everything.

Divide the league into two eight-team CONFERENCES. Divide each conference into two four-team divisions: Northwest and Pacific in the Western Conference. Southwest and Midwest in the Eastern Conference. Authorize EVERYONE to play a standard 12 games.

Scheduling

1. Each team plays a home-and-home schedule against their divisional mates. Six games.
2. Each team plays two games against teams in the opposite division within the conference. Two games.
3. Each team plays one interconference game. One game.
4. Each team plays three non-league games. Three games.

That makes 12 games in a unique but doable schedule. You don't get to play everyone every year, but the division is VERY important. One could have a small 4-team tournament at the end or just say the best record gets the Rose Bowl/B(C)$ trip.

All that said, now that Colorado is in the fold, I'd MUCH rather see this league make a play for Colorado State than TX Tech. The travel partner scenarios are too complicated otherwise.

I know Liberty is really not even considered to move up. If Liberty wants to move up they'll have to pursue it! No conference is going to come knocking on there door. If anything was to happen I don't see it happening for a good 3 years at LEAST! But with 30,000 seating capacity in less than 5 years from now and our program growing stronger every year I think Liberty may at least get a couple second thoughts. Who knows! So many different and unexpected things happening right now.

Liberty may be waiting to long to move to FBS - who knows if there will be a reason to move up in the future.

I don't think these moves affect the 2011 season, except Boise to MWC. It's 2012 for the others.

Some writers are saying that Iowa State will join the C-USA as a football affiliate, but drop to the Missouri Valley Conference for all other sports.

If that is the case the UNI/Iowa State match ups would be very interesting.

If the MAC loses a team or two, some fans 'in the know in the MAC' believe YSU could be on the doorstep, though I sure as hell hope not. It may not be that bad if we moved up just in football, but I'd rather remain at this level so we need not directly compete for recruits vs. Akron and Kent, though 9 times out of 10 we would win that battle! :D :D

Sometimes being an FCS school gives you a recruiting boost. Let's see here, only FCS scholarship program in Ohio vs. 9 FBS scholarship programs...

Being a FCS school also helps with transfers from FBS programs.
