Does anyone know for sure?
I don't think it's impossible for EXISTING FBS schools to form a new conference, though current conference contracts with bowl games might make it financially difficult.

When I-AA expanded in 1982, the existing conferences who qualiied could decide which subdivision they wanted to be - there were some rules that not all conference members needed to meet the attendance requirements - but since then any move-ups have been for individual schools, not groups. You'd need every conference member to meet FBS requirements and start the process at the same time.

No need to make an assumption that the NCAA even becomes relevant if 4 superconferences are formed.... and the TV billions of bucks are waved in front of the University Presidents for a 16-team playoff. It's America!!! Capitalism at work.
There once was a time that college basketball players stayed in school 4 years...now it's simply an NBA minor league....where's the NCAA...collecting cash.... as a frontman for the University Presidents.

Sdhornet - SuperHornet is in fact representing ALL of Sac State's fans, both men and women, their parents and supporters. The athletic budget whether you like it or not is split between them. Changing conferences affects both of them, and both have a say. And Northhen is also right - it's a matter of Big Money and Presidents and the hype of professional ball with the NCAA the minor league. But it's a minor league which is also just incidently the educational machine of the country. Screw football if it leads to the bankruptsy of the educational system. Which is where we're going if we forget everything and chase the elusive dream of Big Time Ball. How the hell do you think the country got into the mess it's in right now?! Chasing that elusive dream!! All I ask is that we do the numbers. And the numbers say clearly "Stay away from the Bowl conferences". And by the way, have you ever watched a good WVB game?

There already are 3 distinct and seperate divisions/classifications:

BCS
non-BCS FBS
FCS

I never said that people aren’t allowed to have a say. I was just pointing out that not ALL Sac State fans/alumni/supporters use the same logic as SH. If you want to take that in some other way…well I don’t know what to tell you. And I agree; it all comes down to dollars and cents regarding whether a move makes sense. I am not sure why you thought I believed otherwise.

Long story short is that neither gets any real national attention.
Agreed - rather be in the playoffs
Fact - Nova football is still unknown after winning the fcs title.
Fact - you'd rather NAU was in the ROSE BOWL than the fcs title game. :coffee:

The best we could have done (assuming we were decent to begin with, which we weren't) was the Las Vegas Bowl (after UNLV jumped, we shifted to the Humanitarian Bowl, I think). An undefeated season wouldn't even have gotten UOP a whiff of what later became the B(C)$. Unless you're independent or in the Pioneer League, an undefeated season in FCS gives you a legitimate shot at a title because you're guaranteed a playoff berth, if not a top seed.

Your smack just doesn't signify in this case, Fresneck.
so when has Suck St. ever got a whiff of anything besides the cellar? ummmm never. now go get me a beer, and talk to me when Suck St. can beat Fresno St. in football. :kisswink:

and duh playoffs are better but still my school kicks your school's ass end of story, both UOP when they had a team and Suck St. now.
Suck State  :| real original.

Face it, the Fresno State Bulldogs are the Oakland Raiders of the FBS.

It's pretty sad when the local gang population affiliates themselves with the football team by adopting the football jerseys as their official gang attire, and to make things worse, it was featured on an A&E show called Gangland. Yeah, go bulldogs, but dont wear their gear if you're a fan, you'll get shot.

And by saying you didnt use Wikipedia only makes people reading your post think you actually used it, without sources, no one knows for sure. It's like an internet company with a disclaimer saying "this is not a scam."

And tell me why "your" school kicks his schools as again. Is it because Fresno State is located in one of the most dangerous areas in the U.S., is it the fact that kids in Fresno are more likely to develop asthma than they are to graduate from high school, or is it the fact that Fresno is in such a "beautiful" area?

DBack, you know full well that if NAU joined the Wac and went to some bowl game u would be a proud man, so dont gimme that 'FCS playoff are the best' crap bc as much as we luv the fcs, FBS is king.

First off, Fresno St. wins so they aren't like the Raiders, 2nd that's how popular they are in the Valley that even gangster want to carry their name. Third we beat you and you never have winning seasons so prove me wrong.

The people that know me and have been around here forever know that I'm rainman when it comes to scores #s. If I used wiki I would have just told you the score and not mentioned it. PS you sound like a pussy since you're scared to come to Fresno, Sac=Fresno 3 hrs north. To all the people not familiar with CA Sac is in a valley and has the same problems puss boy here is scared of including asthma. Live your life in fear and hide out in a bunker if you're so scared. Fresno aint beautiful just like Sac aint. When did I ever say fresno was beautiful? Looks like the Sac smog and the political bullshit that goes on there has trickled down into your post.

SDHornet is a good Sac St. fan, super and herky need to take notes. Instead of using college football as a comeback on a college football board they talk about gangs, asthma, Dallas Cowboys and the CFL.

SDHornet is waiting for when/if Sac St. sheds the Suck St. moniker and becomes a solid threat in the Big Sky where he will then throw the smack down on all of us who didn't believe. That's why I respect him and will always use Sac St. not Suck St. when talking to him, you other 2 don't deserve that respect, calling my school Fresneck or the Raiders.

You guys are N-V-T-S Nuts!

I never claimed to represent all Sac State fans. Never have, never will. I don't run my board as a dictatorship, as my fellow SacBuzzers will tell you. SD is a valued member, but we don't always agree. And that's great. We don't want to be AGS in microcosm.

This youngster logic escapes me. First they say that we've NEVER done anything, and then when older people who actually know history bring up evidence to the contrary, the standard reply is that it's irrelevant. YOU CAN'T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS!!!

BTW, the Fresneck moniker has NOTHING to do with Sac. It comes from the BWC Boards, where just about everyone refers to Fresno in such a fashion. (Remember, as much as I love Sac State football, I went to UOP first.) The Raiders epithet would have never come from me. Sure, there were issues with Tark and a QB with a bad attitude, but in general, there's no evidence to claim Raiderness there. I don't get to see much cable, so I have no clue about the rest of what Herky's talking about.

Actually Sacramento is a beautiful town with the confluence of two major rivers. The area is very lush and provides unabated recreational activities.

The mark of a balanced athletic department is how well ALL the programs perform, not just one and possibly two. Sac has won over 20 conference titles in the past three years in the WAC, Big Sky, WIRA, etc. The football program has underachieved and it still draws 10K.

Academically, Sacramento and Fresno are in the same tier.

Not sure why you refer to Sacramento State as Suck State. By the facts, Sacramento State is anything but sucky.

I've driven unfortunately through Fresno and Bakersfield many times. It is an armpit sir.

Yeah, I've been to Sac it's meh just like Fresno and Bakersfield. You were in the wrong part of Fresno if you think its the armpit. I'm guessing you didn't get off the freeway. It has good and bad parts just like any town. I live 30 min south of Fresno in a good part, there are bad parts 5 min away. Also Fresno is the pit and Bakersfield is the crotch, learn your CA smack.

Trying to push sports that most don't care about because A, they don't get many fans or get any TV air time, B divert the focus away from the top 2 fan/tv sports Basketball, Football. Is an answer you get from a fan of a team that is sub par in both of those sports. PS this is FOOTBALL, message board! How's your football? Did I ever say that we were a higher academic tier? Nope. That still has nothing to do with football. UC Davis is a higher academic tier, does that make them better at football? Nope. If you have facts that Sac St. football is good, please provide them. We both know they are not. The Suc St. was for the 2 talking shit about Fresno St., I only react to their trash talk with trash talk. If you would have read my post to SDHornet you'd see that, that is not my opinion of the school but is my opinion of fans of a school that talks down to my school that beats them in football. Which we should, we are FBS and you FCS for now. It's not smart to talk shit to someone who beats you. I don't say anything to Boise fans because they own us. However we are on the same level/conf in baseball and we just beat you 3 of 4 to end the season, and we are going for our 5th straight WAC tourney championship.

I looked up some Sac St. fb/bb stuff 2007 3-8, 2008 6-6, 2009 5-6. You just gotta break the mendoza line
Basketball needs a lot of work 2008 4-24, 2009 2-27, 2010 9-21. You need a new arena with at least 5-8K.

I'm hoping the Mendoza line gets broken this season. Also a new arena (6-8k capacity) was passed by the students but the admin dropped the ball and could never get the funding for it to break ground. It's still "officially" on the books but is kind of in limbo now. :ohno: Katz looks as if he is turning the hoops program in the right direction. We will know for sure if he is the man after this season. At least he is undefeated against "the farm extension". I love the fact that even in the 2-27 season, we still beat the phaggies.

I think the Governator was the guy in Sac that dropped the ball on any UC/CSU from building anything :(

It could be worse, my wife went to UC Santa Cruz and was the student trainer for "sports" I mean that loosely. They had basketball with an arena that seated 1/3 of my High School gym. A couple of years after she graduated, the students shot down a athletic fee hike to move from D-III to D-II, in 2002, I think. The only sports they care about there are hackey sack, and the naked mile. :ohno:

PS you sound like a pussy since you're scared to come to Fresno, Sac=Fresno 3 hrs north. To all the people not familiar with CA Sac is in a valley and has the same problems puss boy here is scared of including asthma. Live your life in fear and hide out in a bunker if you're so scared. Fresno aint beautiful just like Sac aint. When did I ever say fresno was beautiful? Looks like the Sac smog and the political bullshit that goes on there has trickled down into your post.
You have done your alma mater a great service sir, you represent them well. What with all the swearing and name calling, why wouldnt they be proud?

By the way, there is no comparison that can be made between Sacramento and Fresno that wouldnt make Fresno look like a third world city.

As for football, yes, Fresno State did beat Sac State in their last meeting, 24-3. I share GCM's sentiments, the entire athletic program has to be taken into consideration when debating who is better and who isnt, which is entirely subjective depending on who you're arguing with.

Scared of going to Fresno, no. It's just when I want to go to Tijuana, I don't want to go to its sister city Fresno, I want to go to Tijuana. :coffee:

If it looks like a cow, smells like a cow, and moo's like a cow, it's a UC Davis coed.
