The Move-Up Thread to end all Move-Up Threads

Post by SuperHornet »

I'm getting sick and tired of this talk of FCSers jumping to BogusLand (my new term for FBS/B(C)$).

Would this all just go away if we just kicked CAA upstairs en masse? I'm a bit tired of their superior attitude anyway....

;)

You like Sac St. so wouldn't damn near every school feel superior compared to you.

Didn't YOU want to play for a school from "bogusland" UOP was I-A

Bogusland is bogusland, but face it, there's nothing else to talk about here for the next three months. I doubt even Montana is seriously thinking about a move to the bowl league. They're certain to lose a pile of money, and no one can afford that right now. And by the way, I wouldn't feel superior to Sac State the way they played last year and probably will again. If you want to feel superior to teams on the basis of recent past records, try (I hate to say it) PSU.

Fresneck: That's EXACTLY why I call it BogusLand. I've been there and experienced it. The best we could have done (assuming we were decent to begin with, which we weren't) was the Las Vegas Bowl (after UNLV jumped, we shifted to the Humanitarian Bowl, I think). An undefeated season wouldn't even have gotten UOP a whiff of what later became the B(C)$. Unless you're independent or in the Pioneer League, an undefeated season in FCS gives you a legitimate shot at a title because you're guaranteed a playoff berth, if not a top seed.

Your smack just doesn't signify in this case, Fresneck.

I just think it is funny that people would rather be a 6-6ish FBS team thinking that they will get more national attentional than they would as a national contender in the FCS.

Long story short is that neither gets any real national attention.

Sadly in Texas it gets you more attention. When Texas St made the semis there was a lot of hype in town. But that was it. The FBS teams (SMU, Rice, Houston, etc) get much more attention.

Still all light years behind UT and A&M though.

so when has Suck St. ever got a whiff of anything besides the cellar? ummmm never. now go get me a beer, and talk to me when Suck St. can beat Fresno St. in football. :kisswink:

and duh playoffs are better but still my school kicks your school's ass end of story, both UOP when they had a team and Suck St. now.

PS superhornet, we just beat you guys twice today to win our 5th straight WAC title in baseball. Don't knock the next level, its obvious your school wants to be a part of it even if it's as a baseball affiliate. Schools that want to move up do it to face the best competition, the only thing bogus is that they don't playoffs in football.

There may be less of an incentive to move up than ever soon. If the BCS leagues expand like rumored, the smaller FBS leagues will become even more irrelevant than they are today. Are FCS teams really chomping at the bit to play in the Sun Belt, C-USA, MAC, WAC or MWC?? Granted, some of those will be watered-down too, if say Utah, BYU & the like are raided by the BCS schools.

I'm sure this has been discussed... but, I think there's a need for a new subdivision between FBS and FCS. A subdivision for the lower FBS schools and the better FCS schools. I'd love to see this happen.

This is a very possible outcome and playoffs for this division is not out of the question.
The remainder of FCS could very well fall back to an upgraded D2.

BCS (larger than today - dominate the bowls)
Non-BCS D1 (playoffs?)
Larger upgraded D2

This is at the heart of the move-up debacle. It may be impossible to stay in the cozy FCS as we know it today. Move up or move down.... The system is ready for a change; I just hope they get it right.

How little the young pipsqueaks actually know.

Up until recently, the Sac State WVB team dominated the Big Sky. The Sac State gymnastics team has been a regional powerhouse, including in the almighty WAC, for many years.

Wanna talk football? Sac State was a pretty dominant regional power in D-II, making the playoffs several years and almost taking a national championship back in the mid-80s. (GCM might have more details on that.) Sac was also in a minor bowl game or two back in the '60s. And that ignores the many folk who have garnered success at the next level. We had an 80s era lineman who was a veritable star with the Cowboys for many years, and another who has rings with the Patriots. We had a recent running back who ran circles around the CFL. Not relevant? RRRIIIGGGHHHTTT...

Learn some history before you bust out weak youngster smack, dude.

In amongst all this nattering I've got to remind you that it all comes down to money. These conference shifts will take place only if it pencils out in the budgets. Right now only 24 of the 120 Bowl teams break even or make money. The rest run deficits, and they're big ones. The WAC? I know Hawaii is running a 10 million dollar deficit. Don't know about the other WAC teams, but I'd bet they're running deficits too. Even some of the Pac-10 teams perennially run them. So it boils down to what university wants to take on permanent deficits at the expense of their educational programs. Or rather, who can afford to. I know Sac State and PSU can't afford it, and probably any other of the medium budgeted state schools. States are steadily cutting back their funding, and that's not going to change. Most of those schools are relatively new, so they don't have much of a base for alumni donations. PSU is the largest school in the state now, but it doesn't mean a thing when it comes to alumni with money to give. This is true on the West Coast. I'd guess it's true everywhere in the country but I'll stand ready to be corrected.

Marshall....not seeing any advantage. ANY FCS can schedule West Virginia if they wish.

Like to see the non-BCS drop down to FCS....especially with the expanded FCS playoffs.
BCS constricted to 4 super-conferences of 16 schools...two 8-team divisions in each... leading to a 16-team playoff...4 schools/conference....top 2 of each division.

No one cares about those lame ass sports that don't get on TV. If you were so dominant in D-II with your 0 football/basketball championships, then go back, you won't be missed. Sorry but I don't care about women's sports so if you're gonna post about some women's sac state team being good at tickle fighting, no one cares. CFL is so relevant that it's not on ABC,NBC,CBS,FOX or ESPN. I know all about history. Don't act like you know anything worth mentioning that's historical on here. PS we are both in our 30's, so who you calling youngster little girl?

Here's history: 1916 Georgia Tech 222, Cumberland 0. BFD!
Football begin in 1869 Rutgers vs Princeton final was 6-4. I don't remember who won because I'm not cheating by using wiki. Oh and I'm one of the few that update wiki on D-I, D-II conf./div changes and the NCAA tourney invites, wins, final 4's etc...

I do post on it, but no one is there. It takes a day or to for someone to respond, if not longer.

My main D-I board is ncaabbs right now and the collegesportsinfo board.

I didn't start the thread I just commented on it

kem, I think we all better hope that the BCS schools don't leave us because the NCAA tournament wouldn't be on cbs and if we were lucky we'd get the leftover D-I version of the final 4 on espn 2 or espn u. If they go, so does all the trickle down money and TV contracts. I bet they would merge the leftover FBS with FCS and make it a 74 scholly limit. Right in between 85/63 we have now

I don't see that happening either. Seems the B10 will only go to 12 or 14 not the everyone get to 16 and leave like some thought and were worried about.

Marshall was great in the MAC, moving to CUSA made them a middle of the road team. But if that was their goal, to get in CUSA they did. The more you move up the harder it is to win. Everyone one that moves up hopes to be the next Boise St. not not the next ULM

Some posters are saying that it would be impossible under the newer NCAA rules, if passed, to form a new FBS conference, or move an entire conference from FCS to FBS.
Does anyone know for sure?
