What a night. The kids went to bed nice and early, and even slept through the thunderstorm. The Flyers complete the epic comeback, and now I flip over to PHL-17 and the Phils are handily beating the Brewers....

...in POWDER BLUES!!! :notworthy:

Nice little sweep of the Brewers. Gotta love that with all of these injuries, the Phils are still sitting here today with the best record in the National League and a major league best 4 game lead in the division. Got 2 with the Pirates and 2 with the Cubs coming up (seriously, the Phils could win 120 games in a year if they were in the NL Central - they just own that division) before on-the-ropes Boston comes to town for the weekend. And, now J-Roll could be back in the lineup after missing most of the first two months. Life is good at the top.

Man those uni's brought back good memories. 10 games over with the lowly Buccos & Cubbies coming in, back of the pen looking fine wo/ Madson & Lidge, J-Roll is back, Senor Octubre is back, liking it.

The powder blues did look good - obviously Moyer looked like he belonged in the uniform (probably since he pitched for so many years while the Phils were still wearing them), I thought Ryan Howard looked like a slimmer Gary Matthews in his uniform, and Chase Utley just seemed like he belonged in a throwback uniform with the way that he seems like a throwback player.

No doubt. Moyer looked like he belonged. I expected the Brewers to trot Kent Tekulve out to the mound in a Pirates uniform with the old star caps.

The one guy who looked out of place in the uniform was Victorino. He tried to go old school and hike his pants and rock the stirrups, but it made him look like he was about 5' 2". I thought he was the bat boy the first time he walked to the plate.

J-Roll will play tonight and bat third. I was about to say "WTF" but then I saw that Utley is out of the lineup. Chooch is in the lineup tonight. Polanco to 2nd. Dobbs at 3rd.

Yup - the Phils are now 10-1 against the NL Central - 120 wins would definitely be in reach if they played in that division full-time. Halladay gets the Buckos tomorrow night.

So Halladay loses to Zack Duke, of all people? C'mon, Phils, give the man some support! :ohno:

Uts should be back from the flu soon and Rollins needs a few at-bats (o-4 last night) and the runs will return.

Eh, it happens. The best baseball teams every year lose about 70 games, including some head scratchers like last night. That's how it goes. On the bright side, they've managed to keep the bullpen pretty well rested over the past few nights, so that helps. The next road trip will be really key - the Phils are sitting on a 4 game lead in the division - playing 3 NL East teams in a 9 game road trip might be a good way to really distance themselves from anyone in the division.

Yup - Contreras seems to really have closer stuff - only a true closer can work himself into a jam like that and then work himself out of it too.

Two whiffs and a foulout after runners at the corners. The ghost of Mitch Williams!

Good win for the Phils - 5-1 over the Red Sox. Hamels was masterful with just 3H and 1ER through 7. And the Red Sox were dominating LHP coming into this game. Phils pounded Lackey during his 5 innings of work. Bullpen makes it interesting, but when don't they? If the Phils can steal one with Kendrick on the hill tomorrow they'd give the ball to Halladay on Sunday with a chance to take all 3.

Here's hoping J-Roll's reinjury of his calf isn't as severe as the first one. According to his postgame interview, it's not.

Well, if they do steal one it won't have anything to do woth Kendrick, he didn't pitch well at all. Thru 5 now & the Phils don't even have a hit.

That's why basbeall is such a great game. The Phils club a few balls & they find their ways right to BoSox gloves. The with 2 away in the 8th a flare to left breaks up the no-no. Halladay goes in the rubber game tomorrow....

Halladay got schooled by a knuckleballer today. Here's hoping the Phils can right the ship with a long road trip against the division starting tomorrow.
