It seems that, if given an opportunity, 99.9% of the FCS would jump to the FBS. For example. It makes me sick to my stomach of how the majority of Southland Conference schools are so ready to move to the FBS. It blows my mind. Why can we not get something going to really promote FCS and how great it is to crown a real champion!
I understand that the FBS will always be considered the big time and have all of the glamour! You have the history and years of some fantastic University's. Plus, a whole lot of money. FCS has had the same kind of success, but the masses know very little about them. Why can they not put a marketing campaign together that will really brand FCS or/and find somebody somewhere to put together a FCS football show for TV. If not TV how about webisodes. Its really not that hard to produce, the only hard part is collecting the data and having good talent on the show. Supporters, Alumni, Fans, Recruits, and Parents are all sponges for news on their Universities.
Get ESPN, Fox Sports, ABC, NBC, whatever, to stop giving all of the "...(insert FBS school name) should not play these low level teams...... Why schedule a lower class opponent..." CRAP!
The FCS has a rich history, of it's own, that the majority need to see and be apart of. If all anyone ever does is dream of going to the FBS the FCS will always be rarely respected. Who would respect the FCS when teams and Universities that play in the FCS don't even want to be in the FCS.
I will probably get ripped for this post. Who cares! I want the FCS to be more, and have all of the great teams, players, coaches, and fans to be recognized like they deserve to be. Im out.

Jeff Hanel

I love your enthusiasm and passion, and although I share your sentiments, to answer your question: $
That's it. Bottom line. It all comes back to the red and black.

Re: FCS
I understand the frustration although I don't have a problem with schools wanting to move up, but I think your percentage is more than a little high. I'm going to guess that only about 10to 20% of all FCS schools have a legitimate interest in moving up.
Take the SoCon. The only schools that have a legitimate interest in moving up would be ASU and GSU (and GSU's is questionable considering the results of some of their studies). Admittedly of course the reason might be the SoCon's obvious bias in favor of small schools

Re: FCS
IF the Pac 10 or Mountain West invited NAU, sure, move up. But that is not going to happen.
FCS is realistically the best fit for NAU. I love the playoffs, and love the opportunity to compete with similar institutions to NAU.
I don't begrudge schools that want to move up. I do, however, find annoying those posters that try to belittle FCS or proclaim that their school is "too good" for FCS

Re: FCS
Who would you even contact to talk about marketing the FCS? Do they market it? Is FCS just a footnote to talk about if there is nothing else to talk about?

In the grand scheme of things, and to most football fans in the country, that's sadly all it is. Doesn't mean it doesn't kick ass, though.jhanel wrote:Who would you even contact to talk about marketing the FCS? Do they market it?
