Roy Halladay with 7 Ks through four. Phil put a five spot up on the Nats in the fourth to lead 5-1. Howard with a HR. Everbody hits - WOO HOO!

With six of the first nine games against the Nationals, it will be hard for the Phillies not to get off to a good start. ;)

I'm guessing this will be Halladay's last inning - let's hope the pen can protect that lead.

9 Ks through 7 for Halladay. Rollins is 2/3 with 2 BBs. Howard and Polanco with HRs. Every player in the lineup with a hit, including Halladay.

Who said the Phils start slow? ;)

Ryan Howard goes deep for the second time is as many games and the Phils beat the Gnats 8-4. The Phillies are 2-0, I can't remember the last time the Phils started a season 2-0.

They just said on the post game show that 2003 was the last time the Phils were 2-0.

Hamels pitches 5 innings and throws 103 pitches, but still gets the win allowing only 2 runs. Not a good outing for Cole.

His fastball is still down in the 90-91 range. Hopefully he can slowly build himself back up to where he was two years ago. Alas, a win is a win, even against the Natinals.

I am quickly reaching the point where I can't stand to watch Cole pitch. I am tired of the high pitch count every inning. I know it's only one game, but this is a continuation of how he pitched last year. Not a good omen.

I hear ya. I was hoping to see more of a rebound. Granted, the sample size is small for 2010, but he's clearly not "back" yet, and my confidence in him betting back is as shaky as yours seems to be.

C'mon Gannonfan. We need you to get in here and tell us how Hamels is going to pull it together so we can stop moping around and feeling sorry for ourselves. :thumb:

BBTN said the hang time on Howard's HR last night was 7-plus seconds and the ball's apex was 172 feet, third highest ever since they have measured that stat.

52 Phillies hits in the first four games. :thumb: The announcers said it was the first time the Phils have scored 10 runs or more in their first four games since 1926. So much for the typical cold starts of recent history.

They blanked the 'Stros 8-0 tonight. Happ with the W.

Are you calling me a geek? :D

Actually, we went to Nicola's in RB for dinner (not by choice, but for a friend's birthday - they have kids the same age) and were home by 8:30, just in time to watch the game. I did have one beer, if that counts for anything.

I'd wait until you play a real team. The Astros and Nationals would have trouble beating the Colorado Springs Sky Sox.

You may be right. The Phillies haven't shown that they can beat any "real" teams the past two seasons. Maybe if they had won a World Series in 2008 or gone to the Series again in 2009 they could make claim to actually being good, but until then...

Until then, they'll have to take solace in being the top offense in the league after week one against fake teams.

"Doc" Halladay mows down the 'Stros in a 2-1 complete game. We don't beat Oswalt too often!

What was particularly impressive about Cy's, er I mean Roy's, performance was that he had bases loaded with no outs after the error in the 7th and pitched out of it, only surrendering the one unearned run. Then in the next inning he had men on first and second with no outs and then second and third with one out and pitched out of that one giving up nothing. Not once did Charlie have a guy even stand up in the bullpen. :notworthy:

Any truth that when they hoisted the '09 NL flag today they decided to skip ahead & hoist one for '10 as well??

Can't wait for October to get here.

Mission: 100 wins or more.

Hamels is looking pretty ineffective again through four, giving up four early runs. Rollins was pulled from the lineup due to a strained calf suffered earlier in the day in workouts. Here's hoping that's nothing too serious.

Hamels with his second straight lame start, against a bad team that is missing one of it's best hitters (Zimmerman).

And the Phils bats explode in the 5th! :thumb: Let's see if Hamels can nurse this gift from the offense.
