Much better schedule than last year in that we only have 1 D.II school to play. But, we also only have 1 FBS school to play. It sure would be nice to be able to schedule a home and home with some more of our neighboring Southern Conference brethren. Although, I am honestly looking forward to the trip to Sam Houston next year. The Brevard game will give our relatively untested QB an opportunity to get comfortable with full speed play then we get to take on the Akron Zips before settling into our FCS schedule. Not a bad schedule, but, it would be better without the D.II game. In the meantime, I will look forward to watching a scrimmage on Saturday at 10:00 and then get ready for our Spring Game on April 17.

ElCid83, I agree, definitely a better schedule than last season with only the 1 DII but I also believe a tougher schedule overall. There are more long distance away games and our conference away games are against the top 3 teams from last season in the Big South. There will need to be several guys who step up this season who have played little to none to plug holes lost to graduation. Here's hoping that M. Goods and C. McGowan are eligible and that J. Williams recovers from the knee injury/surgery for the fall. Those 3 are solid players to anchor the Defense along with my favorite defensive player, Marty Patterson. On offense, QB and OL play will be key. I see the RB's and WR/TE looking pretty solid with returning experienced players. Flights are booked along with hotel to Sam Houston State, went ahead and locked in rooms at the AmericInn for all home games figuring we can cancel later. See you Saturday. Looking forward to watching the guys scrimmage again.

Quality schedule for sure, playing at home on 9/18 and not returning back until 10/23, more than a month later, isn't easy.

I'll say it again....with what we've lost, if Patton pulls out a 6-5 record this fall with this slate of games, it will be one of his best coaching jobs during his G-W tenure. For that to happen, we need to get that win against WCU before heading out for the three straight road games.

From what I'm told there is a home and home in place between a nearby SoCon school in S.C. and GWU that will begin in 2012. You will see more of those series arise between GWU and nearby schools in the near future. Good for the Bulldog program to play those programs.

GWebbAlum - Welcome. You must be referring to the Wofford Terriers as they are the only nearby SOCON in SC as The Citadel IMO wouldn't be considered close by. I had been under the impression that there were plenty of sour grapes from both school's representatives and fans after the last series ended with Wofford easily winning those contests and claims by some of running the score up. There should be little reason that GWU doesn't play more of the SOCON schools and CAA schools but getting home and home deals can be tough with some. I would like to see the Runnin Bulldogs take on the likes of Elon, UTC, GSU, Samford, JMU, W&M even a SC State from the MEAC. While traveling can be fun, too many long trips in the same season can be tough on the team and the fans so scheduling closer to home is alright by me.

Libertine - Forgive me, I somehow managed to skip over the Purple Paladins and I shouldn't have. They have a excellent tradition, solid program and yes would be considered to be a close by SC SOCON School. As many are aware who have had an opportunity to visit Furman on an UnOfficial, they serve up the largest piece of chicken in the south and yes it was good. Like the way their band comes thru the tailgate area pregame and the Paladin on the white horse is the equal of Chief Osceola for the Fla St. Seminoles even if the football programs are more than a bit apart. Looking forward to the atmosphere when the Runnin Bulldogs make it up to Lynchburg. It will be my first of what should be at least two trips.

It won't be Furman if Patton is still pissed at them. He cried like a baby on the postgame show after they romped us down there a few years back as the second part of a home/home we had....accused them of running up the score, which they really didn't....Patton sure didn't act like a proud Furman alumnus, that's for sure.

Thw Wofford sour grapes came from games during the late 80's, where they actually were chapped that we ran the score up against them. They blew us out twice during a recent home/home, but I see the odds of playing the Terriers being much more better than Furman.

Playing, and beating, SOCON teams in home/home series would really help. I wouldn't mind us getting some MEAC home/home series back too, like we had recently against Hampton and Morgan State. SC State would be neat.

Exactly. "Close by", when speaking of teams East of the Mississippi, means you could walk there in an hour. Anything else is considered arduous travel.

i think liberty and gardner webb have a good rivalry because they arent TOO far away from eachother. rougly 4.5 hrs depending on how u drive. but i dont think they have any bad blood between them. at least from what ive seen gardner webb gets along with the town it's in. i think a lot of the lynchburg locals have breathed too much mountain air.

I'd like to see some of the intensity of the LU/G-W womens hoops games and budding 'rivalry' spill over onto the gridiron....it would spice things up in a hurry. I don't think we, as a fanbase, have any real angst or hatred toward other Big South schools as of yet.

Hey, I'd love to see some CAA teams on the sched too, I just figured they would be alot tougher to get for a home/home deal. Heck, we had good home/home deals with Tennessee Tech (the return game here fell through), Tennessee-Martin and Austin Peay from the OVC as well.

We probably get ODU in here in the fall of 2011 as a return for our trip to Norfolk this year. Add in the Wake and Ohio U. games, that will leave three out of conference slots open.
