Help a former UAlbany player make a difference
Danny Bocanegra, a former UAlbany football player (2004-2008) and a member of the 2008 Allstate/AFCA Good Works Team is looking for support in his running for a grant from the Pepsi Refresh Foundation.
In the spring/summer of 2009, Danny raised thousands of dollars by selling t-shirts to the UAlbany community in his support of the fight for malaria in Africa. He travelled to Africa and brought and distributed hundreds of mosquito nets and also was able to help build a school and water system.
He's currently in the running for a $50,000 Pepsi Foundation grant to get his next project up and running.
To see Danny's plan and to vote, please visit http://www.refresheverything.com/SelflessTee" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Thanks guys.

Good for him. Guys I know first hand the ravages of malaria. I got it in 1994 just after leaving Mombasa Kenya and I can not begin to describe the feeling, fear and the incredible loss of body fluids from Malaria.
One day I was feeling a bit tired and told my coworkers I was going to lay down for an hour and recharge my batteries. I woke up days later in the hospital sweating so much I looked like I had just gotten out of a pool. IVs stuck in my arms and I had no idea what was going on or where I was. Scary stuff.
I was not allowed to donate blood until 2004. This is an ugly thing. Please take the time to click the link and help this guy out.

Re: Help a former UAlbany player make a difference
Thanks Bob.
Danny is a great guy and was a pretty good player as well.
He started this week ranked 41st. He's dropped down to 26th now and hopefully it will continue to go lower. He's got to get in the top 10 to get the grant.

He got my vote. Great idea!!
Re: Help a former UAlbany player make a difference
Done. Sounds like he's got some lofty goals. Starting small and hopefully getting to bigger things. Cool what he did with the Mosquito nets, not only will they help curb the spread of malaria from the mosquito, but also other parasitic infections transmitted by the Tsetse fly.

Bump - last chance to vote. He's in 10th now which I think means he'll get the funding, but add your votes and make it secure.
You can vote more than once.

He ended up finishing 9th, which means after his idea is vetted by Pepsi (legitimacy, budget, etc.) he'll get the $50k!

Alright! I was a little worried when he dropped to 11th yesterday, but I'm glad that he got the funding. I wish him all the best.
