Re: NAU schedule FINALLY announced
Tough road games at ASU, UM and EWU, but with 20 teams going, certainly not outside the realm of possibility. Of course, EWU, MSU, Weber and UM are all thinking the same thing. Is the Big Sky really a 5 playoff team conference? Only two more at-large bids in the field of 20, so you would have to assume that the Sky would get two at-large selections under the "old" format, the auto bid for the champion and then both of the "new" auto bids. So, I'm guessing the answer is no and Weber may be the odd man out thanks to playing two FBS teams. Of course, it all comes down to how those five teams beat each other up during the conference season and whether or not a darkhorse like Sac comes in and shakes things up. Considering the Sky got three bids this past season, four might be realistic next year. Jesus, did I just take off on a tangent?? Sorry. Must be the coffee. Continue. Re: NAU schedule FINALLY announced
I see the potential for NAU to start 4-0 here. The ASU game would be tougher than UA, but still winnable. 3-1 is more likely, but I just can't fathom NAU losing to the likes of SUU.
But five weeks of no home games and a bye that stinking early? Whoever set up that arrangement ought to be shot. Even if NAU DOES start 4-0, it's going to be all downhill from there because they'll be so exhausted from the flights with no rest.

Montana, Montana State and EWU all play a Division II, so going to take 8-3/7 Division I wins even in a 20 team field.
Weber State again has no Div II and plays 2 BCS. They are the only BSC team that could get in at 7-4.
Other possible playoff teams that have a Div II and would have to go 8-3: Delaware (I think the only CAA playing a Div II AND only CAA not playing a I-A, Elon, Wofford, SIU.
Most likely from the Big 4 (CAA. So-Con, MVFC, BSC) will take 7 Division I wins to get in, 8 Div I wins to get a bye, and 9-10 Division I wins to get a seed.
I'm willing to bet that NO conference will get 5 teams in. The breakdown will likely go something like this:
CAA 4 (of 10, last yr was 4 of 12)
So-Con 3 (of 9, last yr was 2)
BSC 3 (of 9, same as last yr)
MVFC 3 (of 9, last yr was 2, previous several years was 3)
Southland 2 (of 8, same as last yr)
OVC, MEAC, Patriot, Big South, NEC all just the one autobid.
Cal Poly has a Div II, so they'll have to go at least 8-3 to get an at large.

Dont forget we also have a decent schedule and a chance at the GWC championship i believe this year. We have 2 FBS games, 8 FCS and 1 DII games this year and i think if we can get 7 (probably will need 8) wins with this schedule we have a shot at reaching the playoffs this year.

I tink you misunderstood what he was saying with the "5" thing. He is also saying that there isn't gonna be five from the BSC but there are five that are all thinking they will have the shot.BDKJMU wrote:Huh???SouthDakotaGrizzly wrote:

With all due respect, you're nuts if you think the BSC will get 5 of 9 teams in. Heck, even the 2 years the CAA got 5 in, it was 5 of 12. If the 20 team format was in place last yr the BSC still would have only gotten the 3 teams in, Montana, EWU and Weber. Montana State was 7-4, but only had 6 division one wins. Everyone else had a losing record.
Montana, Montana State and EWU all play a Division II, so going to take 8-3/7 Division I wins even in a 20 team field.

I agree with everything in your post and there is almost no circumstance that I could see the BSC getting the two additional at larges. Two teams from the BSC is a pretty good bet and 3 is a possibility in a lot of years.

It's possible but still pretty slim Tbird. You guys probably can't afford to lose one single FCS game next year and that is a tough spot for the birds again.SUUTbird wrote:Dont forget we also have a decent schedule and a chance at the GWC championship i believe this year. If Liberty and Stony Brook play to their demonstrated potentials. It's very likely the Big South could be a 2 bid conference with strong OOC showings by both teams.
